Pre-constructed decks.

Submitted 4 years, 6 months ago by

So I just started playing last week.

I was talking with my brother today, and he has a pre-constructed deck that I don't, and vice versa. But I completed the tutorial and challenges and there doesn't seem to be a way to unlock more. Are some of the unlocked decks random?

Also, what does it mean when a wild card in my rewards is labeled "Upgrade"

Lastly, anything a new player should avoid?  I tried building a full aggro deck with "Legion rearguard" and "Patrol Wardens" among others. But I'm not sure if these type of deck are viable in this game.

I'm not gonna say anything in regard to how to play or what to avoid since I'm not that experienced myself. I believe I know what the upgrade label means though. If I'm not mistaken it is referring to the fact that at random rewards can be improved as they are given to you. For example a card that was rare might be upgrade into a rare wild card or a rare wild card might become an epic wild card. I've had chests even get upgraded from Silver to Gold before.

Welcome to Runeterra (and this site)!

I've played since open Beta so I'm not sure if they've changed something with the official launch, but after completing the tutorials you had three different pre-constructed decks: Ionia/Piltover&Zaun (with Jinx & Zed), Noxus/Shadow Isles (with Elise and Darius), and Demacia/Freljord (with Braum, Garen, Lux, and Tryndamere). During the launch celebrations, you were also rewarded with a fourth deck, Freljord/Shadow Isles (with Braum, Ashe, and Tryndamere). I haven't heard of any other preconstructed deck existing. As far as I know, the decks should be the same for everyone.

Topandito already explained upgrades: the card was supposed to be a regular copy of that rarity but randomly upgraded into a wildcard. And as they mention, chests/capsules can upgrade as well but I don't think you can see the upgrade text then (or maybe I just click through everything too fast).

I don't think there's anything special you should avoid as a new player. I fully recommend playing through all the tutorials as they teach all the mechanics but after that you're free to play what you want. Aggro is very much viable, and you've chosen a good region combination for that. Here's an example of a top tier aggro deck:

Don't feel forced to aim towards that only, especially as a newcomer you should try out different things and work with your collection.

You also get an ashe deck after logging in for 7 days..

upgrade means a random loot just became better for you (instead of giving you the random upgrade, they are telling you that it got upgraded so you feel more lucky).

avoid? actually nothing.. you can do whatever there is no wrong and right.. it's not hearthstone if  you craft a deck and it gets nerfed first of all the nerfs are not that harsh, also you have enough resources to craft ANOTHER deck shortly after.

Ok, I guess my brother must have registered some time ago and got the extra deck.

One more thing. I noticed one time that an ally being killed in response to them creating en effect would remove that effect from play. But a few games later the same thing happened and the "spell" still remained. Is it only removed when the ally is destroyed by a burst spell?

It depends on the effect itself, I think. If you kill Rhasa the Sunderer during his play effect, it will still go off but if you kill Devourer of the Depths, the effect also stops (as it refers to the unit itself).

Similarly, leveled-up Vladimir's Attack effect will resolve whether or not he lives to see it, whereas leveled-up Lee Sin needs to be alive in order for the effect to (quite literally) kick in (again, the latter effect is referring to the card itself, creating the dependance).

For these "unstoppable" effects, you would need to use Deny.

How do you format your decklist like this?? I don't see any coding.

    (Edit, NVM I found it)

Dude, do me a favour and don't be a bad role model teaching kids to play burn.

We don't need any more of these silly decks on ladder right now

But my first deck already looks like that lol.

But I know what the deck issue was. It seems that the image on the decks is random. That's why I thought we had different ones.

While I agree that P&Z/Noxus can be frustrating to play against, it's a valid deck strategy.  More to the point: Phaseshifter is a single person identifying himself as a new player.  Denying him information about one of the few viable budget options available to new players (elusives and spiders being the others) isn't going to make any significant change to the meta you're playing in, but helping him instead might help him stay with this game long enough to unlock rewards and craft some better / more interesting decks himself.

The image on the decks is not random.  If you have any champions, it will automatically be the most expensive champion.  Otherwise, it will be the most expensive follower.  They recently announced that they plan to eventually let you edit which card is chosen, but for now it is automatic.

I would say this game is very forgiving in general.  The "worst" thing you could do would probably be to wasting all your crafting resources building a memey deck (Teemo puffcaps?), and even that you'll replenish your supply in a few weeks.  Most important things:

    • Try to hit at least Level 10 vault every week
    • Try to get every region except Bilgewater to Level 8 Region Reward ASAP -> will net you lots of quick champions
    • Try to get at least 3 wins every day -> will help with the aforementioned
    • Try to use your weekly free expedition token -> will also help with the first 2 plus give free epics
    • Almost all netdecks will run 3x champions, but don't be afraid to experiment with a modified 2x version.  It won't be as good, but often its good enough and it give you freedom to try a few different archetypes.

I know it is mentioned but Bannerman would be a good "Intro to Midrange"
    Budget: https://lor.mobalytics.gg/decks/bqodmrph40q4o3j0lldg
    Full Version: https://lor.mobalytics.gg/decks/bpq0sqtp8n7f47g8esgg

I will warn you, it will get boring after a solid week of playing as the strategy is play dudes, make dudes bigger, smash nexus.

I would avoid Blidgewater, Frejord, (most) Shadow Isles, and Ionia.

Once you are more comfortable with the game another cheap and effective aggro-ish/midrange-ish deck is Kinkou Elusives.
    https://lor.mobalytics.gg/decks/bpc85ulp8n7fhorvousg

I would offer more decks, but to be honest with the meta will change drastically once you get enough resources. I won't overload you with anymore cheap decks. To give an idea of how long it will take you to collect everything. I played the game 17 weeks and I have 0 champions, 10 epics, 52 rares, 19 commons left to collect before I have three of everything and generally followed "OldManSanns" advice above. Here is some good news for you, no new cards will be added until at least August, so you've got at least 7 weeks to collect and catch, so don't feel behind plus you have catch up XP that I don't get. So keep at it and you'll be ready for some advance decks in no time.
