Thanks. I appreciate the attention that you bring to Runeterra. (I probably wouldn't be playing the game at all if OoC hadn't covered it from the start.) I did see this morning's new article on the cosmetics. These are the other things I would add about the patch:
The patch notes explain that the changes to Kalista, Shen, Aftershock, Ember Monk are intended to get them more play. Hothead, Khahiri, and Murkwolf Shaman are intended to be more useful for the player. I think those qualify as a buff rather than a sidegrade (unless you disagree with Riot's idea, in which case I'd hope to read more about your thoughts).
The patch notes also say that Legion Deserter's change is explicitly to lower his threat level a bit. So that's a nerf rather than a sidegrade.
The changes to shards in Path of Champions are HUGE for anyone who is playing the game. Getting shards for fully leveled champions has been a major pain point for lots of players.
Now that the patch has gone live, we know more details about this than the patch notes said. Shards are turned to wild shards at a 5:1 ratio, and you can have a maximum of 40 wild shards. You also get 4 free wild shards if you complete the daily PoC quest.
The patch notes are exaggerating when they call the new Vault "skip" button their most exciting note ever, but it is a big deal for players who've completed their collection. The game has made many quality of life improvements like that lately, perhaps enough to justify a separate article.
Now that the patch is live, we also know about another quality of life upgrade. Mobile players can finally view their opponent's known cards reliably when they click on the hand. This is HUGE!
20 packs is NOT statistically significant. Not in any universe. Show me the data from 10,000 pack openings and maybe we can talk.
But there's simply no incentive for Blizzard to do this. The downsides of that information leaking are astronomically higher than the financial upside of screwing their player base.
I love these so much. I bought the board right away, and it's the first time I'm tempted to buy skins. (Nami is the only one that I can see myself using much, though.) I really wish there was a card back, and those emotes don't really grab me. Now, an emote of a character rolling dice? That would be an auto-buy, too.
Prince Renathal may actually get a nerf in future, because the balancing act will eventually get ridiculous. Hearthstone has for the most part been designed around 30 health, and a change in the health total has a significant impact on power levels introduced.
No matter how you cut it, aggro decks are meant to gas out just around the time where the opponent's health is reduced to somewhere around 12 or less, and if everyone is jamming this card to reach 40 health it means team5 have to, as a consequence, design cards for aggro decks to compete with it, so aggro will only get stronger, not weaker the longer 40 health becomes the norm. Soon having 4/5s on 3 will be more common, or some form of disruption like Revenant Rascal will get printed more often.
Will it promote more midrange decks? Not necessarily. I think control benefits the most from it, because the 40 cards penalty actually matters less to them while the additional 10 health remains significant. Midrange wants to curve out, and that 40 cards cuts its consistency enough that I think the best midrange decks would probably not have renathal in it.
I dont really like rock-paper-scissors metas myself, but I think the main thing is about diversity, interaction, and avoiding those 'draw card and win' decks that has plagued druid for years. This new 40 health fad won't change this, but for what its worth its at very least allowing some bit of diversity, and a little more nonce when deckbuilding, which is good.
But in my opinion, the card will likely get changed, or get banned from standard after about a year. Like genn/baku did before it, such gameplay alterations not only affects balance, it can also make the game feel stale. At its very worst it can promote that same feeling of helplessness felt whenever baku warrior comes up and games starts lasting in excess of 15-30 minutes each. No one wants that, surely.
I am a hot, sexy, and high-profile call girl from a Goa escort service. My nude body is no less than a treasure that you unlock to get pleasure. I can take you to cloud nine and get climax at the peak by Goa Escorts Services. Let my melons get busy in your hands, rubbing and kneading. Your dick is the only thing I lust for. So get to me.
Writing two guides (+ screenshots, YouTube clips and all the other behind the scene stuff I have to set up) each day for five consecutive days can be difficult at times, considering that I am not a full-time content creator.
Therefore, I usually write at least a couple guides in advance, as soon as we manage to datamine the 10 tasks, so that my job during the following days is a bit lighter.
Windfury is great, I agree. I was lucky enough to hit a good mid-run treasure with Rokara, but even if I didn't Blademaster Samuro would've cleared things with an additional turn of time.
I moved some cards to "sidegrades" if they had changes that went in both directions, even if it leaned in one more than the other. The only one I made a buff is Chief Nakotak, since its effect is far more important than its stats.
Agree about the gameplay changes. Even if they make some cards stronger or weaker, they should've had their own section in hindsight.
We don't usually cover bug fixes in these articles, so I kinda ignored them. Same for Path of Champions. If you're talking about the new cosmetic stuff, stay tuned!
Flux has been busy with managerial stuff lately, and he's the one usually doing the patch notes. I'm the one who's covered notes previously (like once, lol), but I was also otherwise occupied with things when the patch dropped.
I've been having this theory for a while now, (last year perhaps). But whenever there's an active refund session, the probability of getting refunded cards from packs is being reduced to zero (or maybe lowered enough) so that we can't gain any extra dust from it.
The same exact theory as opening packs in the mid term expansion. The chance of getting epics and legends are significantly worse than when you opened them at the start of expansion. This is either true, or me having bad luck, because I've tried opening like 20 packs in mid expansion, and got only 3 epics and no legends.
Although, this is just a speculations. Because I literally have no way to prove it, only by statistics.
Me, too. This site in general is doing ok, but I am worried about how sloppy the LoR coverage is.
In addition to being 3 days late, the article has several glaring typos and makes some debatable judgment calls in it summary: Some clear buffs and nerfs are listed as “sidegrades”, rules changes are moved into the buff and nerf lists, and other significant changes in the patch aren’t mentioned at all.
I'm curious which aggro decks you consider "dumb face decks"? Because the current iteration of 'aggro' decks (murloc shaman, mech mage, mech paladin...) have very low skill floors & ceilings.
Unlike shadow priest & face hunter of the previous meta.
Anyway, right now it doesn't seem like any 40 health deck is good besides prestor druid which is barely playable. We'll see if they print more support for it otherwise they may very well die out already come next expansion.
Thralls got murdered with this patch and I don't think that Fated is a top tier deck anymore, Veigo deserter should still be good but not as oppressive. I was afraid that they would make Quicksand sand unplayable but the nerf ended up being reasonable.
Overall I liked this patch even if I would have liked some changes to Bard, hopefully for the next one.
I love seeing articles and youtube videos about strange cards. Floral Spuzzem is not one I've seen mentioned though I may own some of those. Hilarious I've never caught that the wording is so odd.
Coldsnap was a fun set. I actually loved the way they mixed up cumulative upkeep from just costing mana. Karplusan Minotour being a favorite of mine. Also the cards caring about their age counters, like Magmatic Core, was real unique.

IMO 40 Health is the best that happened

I only miss a cardback with the same theme but this is a gorgeous skin theme. Totally love everything of it.

I used Old Guardian's Orc comp, which swaps out the Holy mercs for even more Orcs. It makes the climb a bit quicker, but it's not a budget comp.
I recommend to reroll the map until you get a Fighter coin: I hit Windfury for all Fighters and won the boss battle in a single turn.

Dupe clause is removed for Legendaries if you previously owned that legendary, so it is an easy explanation.

This is not true, I've had cards eligible for refund come from packs during their refund period. Sorry for the bad RNG :(

Yeah nope. I've been disappointed by watching YT drops and getting nothing. Twice.
As long as they stay streaming on YT, then good luck on staying very low on popularity stream.
