  • Too Much Is Not Enough - Card Design Competition Discussion Thread

    Feedback

First of all: insane coincidence! I had exactly three card ideas lying around that use the excess mechanic…

    the other two

…What are the odds of that!?

The mechanic is slightly unusual, but I'm mostly concerned about it being a very expensive card draw with no secondary effect. I like what you're going for, but those cards don't often perform very well. I could see it work with Wildheart Guff, but I'm hoping that won't become the norm.

    Wailor
Spectacular Explosion is definitely better suited for Mage (rather than me trying to give it to a class that shouldn't have any AOE). I particularly like how it feels like an upgrade of Combustion. Comparing it to other AOE spells, I do think it would work better as a 4-Cost. I like Allari's effect a little better, it's very unique. But she doesn't seem as exciting to play.

It might use the same mechanic as Rats of Extraordinary Size, but I think it's still very much unique since it doesn't do anything with the excess tokens, but affects the ones that did fit instead. Its effect works very well, but I would prefer it as an 8-Cost and it should probably be a nature spell?

The Silver Hand is kinda broken. 18 face damage is a lot and because of it, I'm afraid its effect won't see much use. It needs some big stat reductions, which would be a shame, so I recommend adding the "Can't attack heroes" instead. That way players would make a lot more use of its effect and since it's a Legendary, it can keep its stats.

  • Miniset: anything exciting ?

    Quote From dapperdog

    - Priest got shafted. All their cards kinda only fits highlander and quest, and both archetype suck

Actually, I'm playing my take on Quest Priest on ladder and this is a very good meta to climb with it. Of course, if the opponent gets perfect cards, it can beat you, but otherwise it is a really good deck. Against attrition decks you win with Shard, against midrange/tempo you win with value cards. I love the 8 mana Whirlpool

If they're playing a combo deck, and you Dredge one of their combo pieces and make it cost a few mana extra, that's game-winning.

    found it:

"I don’t want to give away too many spoilers, but we will have some solo content coming up that dives deeper into Faelin’s storyline–puns possibly intended–and you will get to see how the premise of the cinematic plays out."

  • Miniset: anything exciting ?

    - Shaman's got lots of legs for murlocs in this miniset. If murlocs are your beef, then this one's your pie

    - Moonbeam is the only druid card I care about in this set.

    - Paladin got some really cool toys. Lightray and Myrmidon looks good

    - Priest got shafted. All their cards kinda only fits highlander and quest, and both archetype suck

    - Face hunter feat. nagas may make a return. Its been pretty shit for them so far, but with the stuff from this set it might be solid enough to make a comeback

    - Dhunters got one good card, one mediocre card and one that suck. But that good card can help out with the current naga dhunter.

    - Mage looks good on paper, but I doubt we'll see those cards be added into the current naga mage.

    - The new rogue cards are most interesting in my opinion. But that may be because Ive been enjoying mine rogue so far.

    - Warlock can go fuck itself

So far so good. But of course, the real question here would be whether its worth it to even buy. And to be frank, if you're saving gold or real money, Ive seen nothing so far that indicate a yes. Neptulon the Tidehunter and Ozumat are not must-haves in my opinion, because they are both clunky and expensive. Commander Ulthok is redundant, and borderline to being the new Duskfallen Aviana. Might get better I would concede. Lady Naz'jar is a card that Im unsure if it'll ever bump up win rates. And the less said about Front Lines the better.

I'll only be getting the miniset because I can spare the gold. But cant say that the legendaries and epic are worth it.

    Here.

  • Miniset: anything exciting ?

So I was not the only one having this impression.

I talked about this a few hours ago with Swizard and we both agreed that the "cool/powerful" cards can easily be counted with one hand, at least with the current state of Constructed.

  • Hearthstone Patch Notes Partially Leaked - Battlegrounds & Mercenaries Updates, Book of Heroes Returns

Was that interview covered on this site? I didn't remember that, so I went back all the way to the Sunken City announcement and didn't see it.

  • Miniset: anything exciting ?

Mage looks good, Naga Mage got a solid boost.

Paladin and DH also got some decent stuff.

Hell, even the Warlock legendary might be really good in Curselock if you play it right.

Neptulon is probably decent in Druid and maybe Ozumat isn't as bad in practice as he is on paper.

Compare that to the last mini-set which didn't have that many viable cards either (only 2 legendaries saw play and very few of the class cards made an impact)

  • How to Complete N'Zoth Mercenaries Event Task 10 "Visions of Conquest" - Tips & Parties Inside

I'm no Merc player in the slightest, but I think people really underappreciate Malfurion + Brukan + Guff comp. It has immense damage through Nature, superb survivability through Guff's taunt and mostly Malfurion's Liferoot Staff. I did 9 Tasks out of 10 with this comp. Switching it for Orcs only on Rotimer, cause he nukes the hell out of you. This comp is really good for any quest there you need to complete some special obstacle - like kill a bunch of deathrattles or kill an enemy with a specific minion. This comp does it all. Also I don't have half of the mercs used in advised comps.

  • Miniset: anything exciting ?

I am not particularly excited by the miniset: in particular by Legendaries that look among the worst in Standard ... anything I miss?

  • Three New Demon Hunter Cards Revealed For Hearthstone's Throne of the Tides Mini-Set

If 3-4 damage was okay then this is completely outclassed by Chaos Nova. Boardclears need to be reasonably consistent or else they will lose you the game when you most need them.

You never run a card that if it low rolls will basically lose you the game...at least not one where eeven the best case scenario is only decent.

In a pre-Sunken City Interview a dev said that we are going to learn more about Fealin and his crew through single player content, meanwhile Iksar said in a Q&A that there won't be any new Adventures this year. Technically both are correct, because Fealins Story would not be a new Adventure, but a addition to a already existing one.

I really love what I see here, all 3 cards have their use and are flexible enough.

Spacerock mechanics are neat, I hope to see more of this!

  • Three New Demon Hunter Cards Revealed For Hearthstone's Throne of the Tides Mini-Set

Am I surprised that DH is being punished this mini-set with meh cards at best?

This is very disappointing, DH becomes one of the best class  to draw your deck fast, but that deck is full of fluff.

Not enough aggression, not fast enough, class is dead until the next set.

Ty I finally got this one done after 100 tries then i found this deck and did it in 5!

  • Hearthstone Mercenaries Gets Its Own Moment in the Spotlight With Teases of 12 Upcoming Characters

The feeling of having to constantly keep up might go away once they went trough a whole mercs patch cycle. Previously they released 4-6 merc each month, which was indeed a very constant stream of new mercs. Now however their plan is to release a bunch of mercs (seems like around 20-25) every 4 months, which should give you plenty of time to level the ones you like until the next bunch of mercs come around.

Well, I guess they are also going to introduce one new merc each month via the reward track or through events to keep things atleast a bit fresh between the major patches, but those at least come with a headstart in coins.

  • Hearthstone Mercenaries Gets Its Own Moment in the Spotlight With Teases of 12 Upcoming Characters

I sadly don't expect a excess coin solution in this patch. Alkali already said that the timeframe was pretty tight for this patch. We also know that the solution will be a whole new system and somehow connected to the new endgame system as far as we know from the Hydra announcement video. There is no way that they are going to introduce these features without a blog post and they have already confirmed that there won't be one about mercs for this patch.

  • Too Much Is Not Enough - Card Design Competition Discussion Thread

    Pro

Something simple for starters. I know there's a clash with the name of the Paladin hero power, but it looks like that can't be helped in this case.

  • Hearthstone Mercenaries Gets Its Own Moment in the Spotlight With Teases of 12 Upcoming Characters

I think the removal of stranger grinding is good enough. At the end of 18 quests, you'll usually max out all three abilities and enough coin for at least half of the three equipments, and that's not counting on coins you received for bounties and the 3 free packs for each merc.

Credit where credit's due, this change alone makes mercs bearable enough to treat it like some sort of pve game, nowhere near as grindy as its competitors.

  • Hearthstone Mercenaries Gets Its Own Moment in the Spotlight With Teases of 12 Upcoming Characters

Yep, that would be next on the list. :) They really gave us some content overload lately.

  • Three New Mage Cards Revealed For Hearthstone's Throne of the Tides Mini-Set + Watch Alliestrasza & Crew's Live Review

The Frost Naz’jar is amazing in Naga HP Mage, helps with its survivability while advancing the gameplan, where the former has always been its biggest issue. This card can even be bounced/discovered again to provide even more survivability. Favourite card of the set so far, that’s for sure. It’s also such a super versatile card and the mana reduction as well as the Flame damage can help Mage in big spell archetypes. The mana reduction isn’t very relevant in Naga Mage anyway because the 4 mana 2/5 already gives infinite mana imo.

Polymorph Jellyfish is also pretty neat in helping to deal with big stuff, and is more of a great discovery option than a actual deck inclusion.

  • Three New Mage Cards Revealed For Hearthstone's Throne of the Tides Mini-Set + Watch Alliestrasza & Crew's Live Review

I'm no deckbuilder, so I don't see the path. Having said this, I've learned to be extremely wary of permanent discount effects.

  • New Mage Minion - Lady Naz'jar

Its not a bad card, but its hardly a game winner. I personally rate this as only slightly better than how Radiance of Azshara is doing for shaman. Flexible, yes. But mediocre in all respects.

That said, this card's flex is good enough that its still a decent inclusion in some mage decks. But it is hindered by the need to first play a spell before this does anything else, which is why Im a bit unsure if naga mage will immediately include it. Not to mention that its also a very nasty topdeck, nearly on par with Queen Azshara in that deck, which is why most decks simply drops azshara completely. I suspect that this card will suffer the same fate.

Still, being healing for 8, and possibility doubled with brann, that has to count for something, especially in a squishy class like mage.
