I finally have a break from college, even if its for a week, so I went ahead and worked on this and completely finished it! Not fully updated since I have to go over some unpublished cards but this is a bigger reveal with 52 brand new cards!
Sorry for posting this many cards at once, juggling college and this is very hard since I decided to get this over with before I end up delaying it way too much, so here are the updates:
- Gluttonous Preparations has been removed due to an archetype overhaul, it has been replaced with Void Instigator.
I'm satisfied with Allari's effect, but i struggle to find good cost and stats for it. Also, the art doesn't depict the actual character nor her signature scythe. I wonder if I should change the name, although the "Souleater" part of it fits her effect like a tea.
About Spectacular Explosion, I'm not sure if the wording is the best.
Do you feel the water and the wind carrying you forward?
The effect will simply stop drawing cards once you reach your hand size limit, but will remember how many cards it still has left to draw, and when your hand has empty space, it will draw until you reach that amount.
You seem to be treating pulling anything below 5 as a death sentence. Yeah, 1 or 2 damage is pretty bad, but dealing 3 or 4 is perfectly reasonable when you're talking about a card with Dredge synergies and highroll potential. That's a Fire Sale or Chaos Nova that fixes your next draw.
I mean, the card doesn't amaze me or anything, but I think you're blowing it way out of proportion. It seems serviceable.
OK, so I admit Naz'jar is pretty neat, but mage gets the legendary love again Blizz? Counting Galakrond's awakening, that's a mage legendary in 4 of the 6 mini-sets so far, alongside 3 of the 5 diamond class cards to date. Someone really needs to tell them that people like the other classes too.
From how I understand it, Spell Damage +1 would increase the starting point for the spell's combo, making the string go "4 damage to a random enemy minion" -> "3 damage..." -> 2 -> 1 -> 0. Malygos, then, would increase it to a potential board clear (8 -> 7 -> 6 -> 5 -> 4 -> 3 -> 2 -> 1 -> 0).
I don't think it would worsen the "1 less damage" part, but I guess we'll see.
The risk of not finding a big card is a good point; you would indeed need a pretty top-heavy deck to make it likely to hit a good card. On the other hand, the mulligan does help a bit in improving the ratio of expensive cards in the deck and a 4-damage AoE might still be good enough.
Perhaps a bigger problem is this costing 5 mana, which may not be fast enough. Meanwhile, Paladin has divine shields so it might not actually clear the board.
Submerged Spacerock - Scary card that will fit into most mage archetypes that's not spell. Slots into naga mage easily. The only problem with the card is that its almost never played on turn 2, and being a deathrattle its slow. But hey, you can Siphon Mana your own stuff if that's where we're heading at
Polymorph: Jellyfish - I wince everytime mage gets something like this. At least its nowhere near as insane as devolving missiles, but its still a hard removal option provided to a class which I wish would never have.
Lady Naz'jar - From what I see, the effects are either "reduce cost of spells in hand by 1", "gain 8 armor", or "deal 5 damage to a minion and 2 to adjacent minions". For a 5 mana card these are not very powerful options to have, but may come in handy, especially gaining 8 health. Still, its probably going to see play in naga mage simply because its a naga and not necessarily because of its effect.
I used the fire comp, although with Antonidas instead of Chi-Ji because I haven't leveled the latter as far. Climbing was easy, but the boss battle is pretty tricky. You can't really take it slow because the Maw's ability will keep buffing the opponent, but if you play too aggressively you might not land a final blow with the spawns. I got it on the second try though.
Unless I'm missing some hidden synergy this is just bad. Playing it on curve usually means not being able to play everything you get and there aren't even that many good Arcane spells to begin with (Runic Orb is the best outcome and if you want that just play any other spell discovery minions).
Hopefully this indicates some creative future for Arcane Mage.
Very valuable for Naga Mage although perhaps a bit clunky. Either way, the ability to just get extra health when you need it is pretty strong. Also a good discovery from Amalgam.
I wonder if the Arcane versions will enable some sort of combo, but then again, we already have Siphon Mana and it isn't even run in Naga Mage.
If you want to save money when buying Hearthstone packs, you should check out Amazon Coins! It's an easy way to save up to 25% off Hearthstone packs so you can get into the new expansion without worrying about your wallet too much. Spacerock seems bad. I'm guessing it doesn't just dump the spells if it dies on the opponent's turn, but still, temporary ressources just aren't great, especially if you can easily get something like Mass Polymorph which probably ends up unplayable. Interesting that they chose Arcane spells though, might indicate some future support (which everyone saw coming anyways, it's the last missing spell school to get an archetype)
Polymorph seems kinda good actually. It's a great tool to deal with buff decks (and I would unironically run it in Naga Mage just to have a way to deal with Naga Priest and Handbuff Paladin) but it also has the upside of being a really good way to get lots of Spell damage for yourself for cheap. Definitely looking forward to testing this one.
Naz'jar seems really strong but also quite expensive but the flexibility is what makes me optimistic about its place in Naga Mage. Just the fact that you can get access to 8 armor consistently is huge and the spell discount can also be pretty huge. Not sure about the Fire one but it can come in clutch if you need it.
