You call 1 big unit that is easily removed by a silence, transform or kill effect of any kind massive board presence?
Like the reason why viego is much better is that his mist grows on every summon and can't really be shut down as a strategy.
Tentacles however don't have any removal protection, come in a region without really decent control tools and
Need to be rebuilt whenever they get destroyed. I can see a tentacle deck surviving 1 tentacle getting removed but 2 is proably already bad and 3 being it's death sentence.
Viego's mist is a problem that the opponent only can delay, not solve tentacles can be solved and I therefore think they don't come close to viego's archetype.
Lightforged Cariel - remove the "doesn't lose durability" part from her weapon
Mr. Smite - just make it rush instead of charge. I don't know how many more times someone has to be killed by buffed 30+ attack Smite or some supid Nellie's crew to realize that this card is STILL too good
Omu (druid) treasure "Marvelous Mycelium" is bonkers, it needs to be toned down. This 1-cost treasure is a win condition in itself, it provides "everything". Tons of healing, proactive and reactive cards with combined effects(!) It shuffles itself so there is no threat from fatique damage. You have basically lost the game if druid gets to 20 mana.
"Dragon Affinity" provides unhealthy tempo plays, it should not be among the pool of 1st passive treasure. Illucia (Priest) benefit tremendously from this treasure because of strong dragon cards/synergy.
Thanks for bringing this up again. Honestly I was a little disappointed when Season 5 started without any changes to the system. I do know how life gets in the ways of plans we have and while the card design competitions surely are a great way to entertain ourselves, there are far higher priorities. I hope everything worked out in the best possible way for Shadows!
- Finalist Voting or nah? We couldn't reach an agreement about the idea of abolishing the finalist voting. The point stands though that participation goes way down during the finalist voting, partly due to the fact that the finalists can not vote themselves.
- New rating system? The idea of a new rating system didn't find many supporters. It was meant to serve the purpose of avoiding too harsh ratings. If someone is forced to rate balance and flavor seperately for example, an OP but flavorful card might come out with a better rating than with the current system, where people might just go "OP! 1 star!". There were different ideas for the execution of this like adding categories to rate the cards in or extending the star system. Another interesting option that came up for the finalist voting asks the voters to put the submissions into their prefered order.
- Quality of life improvements The description boxes for each card should be visible in the finalist voting. It would help to see the cards on our voting pages and in the finalist voting ordered by how many stars we gave them in the first voting stage. Rewards (not only for the winners?) would be nice :)
I'd really rather not see control warrior nerfed at all. The main reason being that its really not that great most of the time. There's just many situations where you curve from 1-4 and put them to exactly buckler into shatter or die. That said, I wouldn't be opposed to some sort of nerf to nellie, because that's practically the only way control warrior scams wins. Otherwise, its a rather unremarkable deck.
Nerfing From the Depths? That's a strange take. The card is mostly harmless until finley is played, and then its true strength is actually value from nellie, rokara, and brann. Most of the time it's just going to hit the many armor cards in warrior and practically do nothing.
Im actually more interested to see team5 do some buffs, because aside from the drekthar issue, this meta is mostly fine. As long as multistrike and drekthar gets addressed, it should allow for more diversity until the mini set shakes things up again.
Yeah, but those moments are balanced out by the times when you are holding onto Mutanus (or maybe even Savory Deviate Delight because you're a madman who's prepared to deal with it before turn 7), and they play him the same turn they complete the questline anyway :(
Man, I'd love to see the hunter quest utterly destroyed. Not because it's terribly overpowered, but because it was the single worst card design in all of HS imo. Things like The Caverns Below and The Demon Seed were mistakes, but at least they tried something new and it wasn't immediately obvious they would be a problem. Meanwhile, Defend the Dwarven District just trivialised Raza-priest which was doing well in Wild just before UiS, so it's not like players couldn't still enjoy it. So why create a deck that does exactly the same thing, but is utterly devoid of interesting gameplay for the opponent? Grr.
If I were to give an answer, I'd say that Team 5 could give out the next mini-set for free to those who bought Diamond Drek.
If I am not wrong, they should be worth roughly the same amount of money, and people who bought Drek with real money are definitely into the game so much that they won't skip the mini-set anyway.
This problem will definitely infuriate players who bought the diamond version but in the end, it can still be classified as a cosmetic as the actual card was given out for free provided you chose the Horde or finished the FaV questline. Still interested to see what Team 5 come up with as a solution but I guarantee you that the toxic HS player base will still get angry
I saw a streamer playing that kind of deck yesterday, the idea is to combo Scabbs Cutterbutter with Vanndar Stormpike to reduce the cost of all minions in your deck, right? Sure, it's quite powerful, but you need some luck if you don't pull the combo early.
If you get a 12 power tentacle down he for sure is a very strong finisher, but getting to 12 tentacle power seems to me almost Impossible to do in a competetive environment.
Let's not fool ourself: the big difference between this and viego's plant is that viego's plant doesn't care if you remove it or it's token. This one is useless if the tentacle keeps getting removed (what it will against any nonaggro deck)

Not gonna do a card by card breakdown for this.
Suffice it to say Bilgewater got itself a Viego.
Which should help the control bilgewater archetype a great deal.
Something like TF makes a lot more sense when you can guarantee massive board presence over time.
Our Nerf Predictions for the Upcoming Voyage to the Sunken City Balance Patch
If I was doing the changes, I would probably do this:
Drek'Thar - stats change to 2/4
Multi-Strike - increase cost to 2
From the Depths - reduce the discount to 2
Defend the Dwarven District - increase requirement of the 2nd part to 3 spells
Lightforged Cariel - remove the "doesn't lose durability" part from her weapon
Mr. Smite - just make it rush instead of charge. I don't know how many more times someone has to be killed by buffed 30+ attack Smite or some supid Nellie's crew to realize that this card is STILL too good

I've been thinking about ways to nerf Drekthar, and what if his effect more closely mirrored Vanndar's?
For example, if this costs more than every minion in your deck, give them all +1/+2
Vanndar discounts your large minions, Drekthar buffs your small ones; each of them is a 4 mana 4/4 alone on the board.
Our Nerf Predictions for the Upcoming Voyage to the Sunken City Balance Patch
Maybe Nellie should discount its pirates by 2 instead of having their cost set to 1.
Or we could give Nellie's "head" a deathrattle like "Lose a pirate of the crew".
Or maybe the discount could be an effect of Nellie's head, so if you kill it the pirates revert to their original cost.
Anyway, I hope they nerf Hunter's Quest to 3 spells in the 1st or the 2nd phase (or maybe both).

This page is just speculation. The official changes aren't announced yet.

Does anyone know if it will include Duels nerfs?

Are those balance changes coming without a detailed announcement?
Why they would do that?

So I've dug up last years thread and here's a short recap:

1 Damage OTK!
LOL, it looks like fun!
Handbuff Paladin
With 10 legendaries it can't be bad, LOL!

Well, a toxic player base will get angry anyway.

Those snipe moments feel so good! Blademaster Okani is another great card choice if you want to see your opponents suffer lol

I thought about Shield Shatter going to 4 damage, but I wasn't particularly intrigued by it.
You're right though: it's a valid alternative if you want to tone down that card!

Nerfing Multi-Strike to only +1 Attack would kill the card, probably increasing the cost to 2 is a more healthy way to deal with it.
About Shield Shatter, I'd prefer to see it nerfed to 4 damage, but well, I don't like playing vs Control Warrior...

what about people who purchased a diamond Dre'ktar with real money? I don't see a real money refund realistic :)

I’m not sure if you’ve heard of Vanndar Rogue? Absolutely hilarious deck that pros have reached legend with.
