The extra coins will probably end us allowing us to get portraits. I doubt it'll ever be allowed for conversion, or if it were possible then the conversion rate would be ridiculously high. Reasoning for this is simply that many of us already have plenty of excess coins, and it makes the bot issue in mercs worse than it should have any right to be in the first place.
As we speak, apparently there was a point where the no.1 ranked in mercs MMR is a bot, and Ive no reason to doubt it, because the gameplay is shallow enough that you can legit have a team that does the same thing turn after turn and expect good results.
- Sticky Whump is a good card to have against aggro so I would keep it.
- I would get rid of death ray in favor of mystic shot, that card is slow and tend to mess up your draw plus mystic can go to face.
- Calculated creation is also a card that I would get rid of having to spend 2 mana+the price of the unit is huge tempo loss. Maybe use Insider Knowledge for a bit of card draw or forcing your opponent to draw the shrooms?
- I would probably remove the perfectionist in favor of either Caitlyn or a Gnar both have great statline and quick attack which force your opponent into unfavorable trades and generate extra value with traps/pockey stick they also give your deck additional win cons on level up.
They would have to include some kind of trade-in option, whatever they decide. It is not fair to long-term players if they only stop dispensing extras now, so long after people have piles and piles of useless coins.
Remove the chances to get coins of a given Mercenary once it's maxed.
Maintain the chances to receive them, but automatically convert them into coins of another Mercenaries (of the same rarity?) you haven't fully upgraded yet.
Introduce a "conversion system", which allows you to disenchant excess coins and craft others with a certain exchange rate.
They will never let players get rid of excess coins and craft others with a certain exchange rate. This feature will completely destroy the Mercenaries economy and progression system. The crafting system from the traditional Hearthstone does not fit the Mercenary ideology.
Most likely they will allow players to convert excess coins into packs. For example, if you have 1000 excess rare coins, you can exchange them for 1 Mercenaries pack (800 epic coins or 500 legendary coins for 1 pack).
They promised to tone down QL popularity, and yet, those decks were still popular (and hated, yes I meant you Demon Seed).
Granted I didn't play much ranked in the last couple weeks/months, but the questlines don't feel oppressive at all to me. Sure there's the occasional Pirate warrior and newly also questline hunter, but that's about it. I also havn't seen a questline warlock in ages.
I don't think they will use Spellburst as it rotates out from Standard and it feels a bit silly to keep it.
I also dont think they add Recruit, using exact the same arguments as you do for letting the key word return. It is not exciting to add a keyword that is already in standard.
If I think of all the keywords we have had, magnetic could return. We didn't have mechs for a long time and last year did add some mech-synergies.
For constructed it's probably also worth noting that the last expansion of the next year will be bigger than usual (too lazy to look up in which Q&A that was stated). It's still a while away, but it will surely be featured on the upcoming Roadmap.
As for this, I genuinely missed it. I am gonna take a look back at all the Q&As and see where this was said!
I don't like every deck, but I like the series overall and have occasionally played a few of them. They are also good for inspiration and for pursuing people to go off the beaten path, so you definitely get a green light from me.

Hearthstone's Expansion Announcement Has Been Delayed Until March 17
But...why? What difference could those 2 days possible do for them?

As long as they're fixing that achievement bug so I can open my quest log without getting irrationally angry, I'll happily wait.

This takes delays for card reveals to a whole 'nother level. Now we've got delays for the whole damn expansion!

I also want to point out that devolving missles is rotating out. That is the nemesis of magnetic.

So help me ... if they bring back Recruit, I'm out for good.
If they want a more board-based game, it's gotta be Reborn.

Maybe Dr Boom will return with a new iteration! Or a new Zilliax form

I hope it's Reborn. Reborn is my all-time favourite keyword, and I think they barely even scratched the surface on its potential.
Everything We Know So Far About Hearthstone's Big 2022 Announcements
No chance for Recruit to come back, it's way too uninteresting and can easily be utilized without utilizing the keyword, as your examples have shown.
I'm thinking Magnetic and Reborn could both be up for the running though, Spellburst is also my number one pick, it's a fantastic mechanic.

Shortly after publishing the article I thought about the "returning characters" part, and questioned myself whether Zilliax could've been one of them.
In this case, it would make sense for Magnetic to be the returning keyword, and your argument about Mechs missing for a long time is quite convincing!

This is another solution, yes. Thanks for bringing it up.
To be completely fair, I feel like the excess coins issue is something they're bound to address, so it's a matter of "how" and "when", not "if".
Giving packs in exchange seems dope!

I also think that magnetic gives mechs their own tribe-gimmick. Like 'Dragon in hand' and 'Elemental last turn'.
Maybe we get A spare parts-like from GvG, but then with robotparts that are magnetic.

Meta or not, we probably gonna see Questline still gonna showed up in regular plays. Especially the Warrior's and Warlock's QL.

But, assuming more control decks returning, the Demon Seed will still gonna be a pain in the *ss.
