Pretty similar story to Tetsuo's actually. A colleague at work told me about the game in the summer of 2015. I was looking for some game I could play to chill down after work but that wasn't as braindead as Candy Crush. Hearthstone struck a nerve and I became a solo class Mage player because f2p at the time. I think the first preorder I bought was The Witchwood and I graduated to dolphin over the years. The colleague left after a year and quit Hearthstone as well.
What looks the most funny in hindsight are all the assumptions I've had since I've started playing and that turned out wrong:
- I'll never spend money on a game I play on my phone. - Must be several hundred €€ by now.
- I'll never play anything else than Mage so I'll just dust all the other classes' cards. - Pretty much everyone of them these days, whatever feels fun for me.
- I'll never play Wild so I'll just dust all the rotating stuff. - I've been maining Wild for about a year or two.
- I'll never get to Legend. - I'm proud that I've achieved this before the ladder revamp once. No surprises here, but it gets easier if you have more time, more cards and more experience.
This is a cool idea, but would be too inconsistent with so many 1x copies of cards. You'd need to hone the list a bit better to the most crucial cards, and put them up 3x each.
I am considering 2x bb as way too inefficient now. You can't just drop bb on 6, that's just asking for death, and if you can't draw then having 2 of them in the deck is just 1 dead card in hand most of the time.
Will be trying quest paladin again, it might be that the meta is slow enough to support it now. We'll see.
I watched hearthstone all the way from the beginning, from the unofficial world champion till now, but I didn't actually start playing until the old gods expansion.
My initial idea was to play arena, because the idea was good and its significantly less expensive than ranked. Those were pretty much the dark days of hearthstone in terms of f2p; you start with basic cards, you get like 10 classic packs if you finish off all the quests, beyond that there wasn't anything else. I couldn't even play face hunter until ungoro started, that was how bad it was.
Hearthstone only became better for me once I actually had all the rares from classic and can play up ranked for once. Did took all the way to K&C though. And its been fun for me ever since.
My ex-girlfriend introduced me to the game, which was sometime around the middle of the Knights of the Frozen Throne expansion (so maybe Sept or Oct 2017). She wanted me to play Hearthstone because it could be another activity we could do together, and for a while, it was. She wasn't a serious player though, we just fooled around with off-meta decks composed mostly of basic and classic cards. She eventually grew tired of the game (and tired of me a few years later lol).
I didn't really take the game too seriously until around the end of the Kobolds and Catacombs expac; I decided to ditch being F2P and bought the Witchwood bundle, and I've been a whale ever since (I'm trying to cut back on my expenses now though). Once I took it seriously, I grew to love the game much more.
So while my relationship with my ex didn't survive, my relationship with Hearthstone did, and it's as strong as ever. It sounds pretty sad when you put it that way, but that's how it shook out lol
Questline Shaman might be able to beat the Handlock version of Questline Warlock. Hex and Torrent both offer meaningful answers to single big enemies, and the slightly slower Flesh Giant and Battleground Battlemaster might make those tools easier to put together. Also, the double cast for your spells is a powerful finisher that might outpace the secondary win condition Quest Handlock has from Blightborn Tamsin.
There's a guide that basically goes through it on the deck, but the basic idea is that you shuffle a ton of Persistent Peddlers into your deck, and eventually they end up costing 0. Despite costing 0, drawing them after completing the questline still counts as a 2-mana discount for the sake of completing achievements.
The wild meta means you won't always have a productive match up for this deck, but when you do you can really grind through every achievement quickly. Also, this deck (obviously) loses a lot of games, so be sure to be at a ranked floor.
thanks for the well written reply! personally, ive always considered the skill required to pilot a deck to be an important factor in the overall fairness of the deck. for example, id much rather lose to an uninteractive darkglare warlock who i thought put a lot of skill in to be able to beat me than an equally uninteractive odd hunter who might as well have been playing cookie clicker the whole game. overall though, im just glad to hear somebody acknowledge that darkglare warlock has a high skill ceiling.
very late to the party here but did anyone open any standard packs during a fireside gathering? curious to see if they will offer the new expansion cards for the next release
For once not mass dusting extras for a few expansions paid off. I had 6 Granite Forgeborn, 11 Battleground Battlemaster's, 5 Flesh Giants (one golden), a golden Darkglare, and I dusted the Il'gynoth I created with Demon Hunter was added. I kept 2 of the 5 Incanter's Flow because I like Mage and I want to see how the nerfed version does. I have 2 weeks to see if they should be dusted as well. Still thats only 2 commons and I now have 22k dust.
For anyone who wants to be lazy about finding cards to dusk for full value, you can filter for "refund", to see anything you can disenchant for full dust value. Very handy!
No, anything not on the editor isn't really intended for "outside" use atm. Long-term goals are to have a proper knowledgebase for that kind of stuff though.
Thanks! Is there a similar guide for outof.cards commands too? I know the buttons we have when writing comments ('quote', 'spoiler', 'card' etc.) isn't the complete list of available commands.

New upgraded Hero Powers in Duels?
Sure, I’ll go and check out what this means. Will update this post based in what I find.
Edit: tried it with Bring on Recruits, and as expected, nothing happened

I agree that I think this mechanic is not compelling. And if it becomes hugely popular, the counter is very easy - just have tough units.

That is incorrect. Using the 'refund' search on my mobile device presented me every golden and regular card that was included in this balance patch.
I kept the Goldens and dusted the extras just because I like shiny things.

Haven't seen mage at all so far, but Flesh Giants and Battleground Battlemaster is still good enough to see play.
