Having a cast when drawn spell that can be put in the deck with no downside seems super strong as it'll automatically cycle itself as well as summon a minion next turn. Even though it broke the rules I think I preferred the original version

I prefer smart investment, but 3 mana that can be spent whenever in return for 1 mana seems a bit strong. I'd probably tune it down to 2 coins if you go with it
Agreed, it's a little pocket of design space where the discretisation of the game makes it very difficult to make a 'strong but fair' card. Start of turn effects have to be at low mana costs to ever work, but low mana means every +/-1 stat is much more significant, and can make or break a card with no 'Goldilocks value' available.
Now we start to see why Yu-Gi-Oh made the silly choice of making their stats at least a hundred time larger than they needed to be.
If you ask me this sounds like Riot took the oppotunity to take over the early access event for streamers that wotc previously did for magic the gathering Arena (lately abandonned) giving streamers the chance to be the first players playing the new expansion and create hype for the expansion this way
In terms of XP expeditions isn't that much different compared to ranked. You get 100 instead of 200 for a win and 50 instead of 100 for a loss but you get a 1500 bonus after 7 wins. Or is it less for the free runs? I never had time to play more than 2 expeditions in one week so I never played the free runs.
I look forward to trying all possible LOR cards in the future and not need to throw away a nice deck idea if i have to craft some general bad expensive cards.
Free runs gives no bonus experience and stays giving half amount for per match.
The best part of LoR is already that, You don't have to think about what to craft because you have all cards so you can try any silly deck you want without a concern. :) But well, There are not so much meme potential right now. I hope that change at near future. Sometimes it lacks some fun counterparts just because of that and became a chess-like game.
But Tickatus doesn't bother combos particularly much, more than 50% of the time they have theirs assembled by the time you can get him corrupted. And even when you drop the card there is no guarantee it burns the right cards. Illucia is what stops combos, on the other hand.
All Tickatus does is utterly kill all those slow control/fatigue/value decks you say you love, now and in the future. So I'm surprised at this defense.
I think the Shadowform support will be in the miniset as they said they'll start exploring spell schools more there iirc, here's hoping we get some cool shadow priest toys
That's why it can't be just "you nerf Illucia and leave Il'gynoth unchanged", it's all connected. But as someone who is a fan of Dirty Rat to this day, that card was never even half as offensive. It was a great tech with many implications and own weaknesses.
There is no better proof as to the card being problematic that when people go "oh, what if they have Illucia in hand, I better play X way so I won't be screwed as much". And then turn after turn after turn, every time. It becomes ridiculous.
There is some skill to playing her and players can be punished for getting it wrong, but it also means no deck that relies on a certain combination of cheaper cards will be allowed to exist for two more rotations. I wouldn't mind if they reworked the card so it isn't an instant "I W.I.N." button against certain decks. Same with Il'gynoth and Tickatus, really.
Oh noes, not my precious Conviction and Crabby Murloc.
Anyone who doesn't think the trio of Tickatus/Il'gynoth/Mindrender Illucia is problematic and quite toxic for the game, I would direct to Vicious Syndicate podcast nr 40 as it explains the whys and hows at length. It's not so much the power levels themselves, but how many potential decks and gameplay strategies are being nipped in the bud just due to their current existence.
OTK DH is far from broken lol. Here are my issues with Mindrender Illucia.
It feels unbelievably crap to play against, just planning a game carefuly and seeing your opponent throw the cards out sucks. Its effectively the same effect as Tickatus, but better as you can reap the benefits from it and your opponent loses cards from their hand.
The second reason is that it is essentially a hate card against an archetype that is supposed to be strong against Control, combo decks. That is also the reason that Control Priest can never be strong while this card is in the meta. As then it would be able to beat all other archetypes.
Third reason, and this is personal. It embodies everything I dislike about last years priest. All it did was discover and steal cards. Which is so unfun for me to play against.
That being said, if Illucia is nerfed, OTK DH needs to get hit too
Weak? What? You must be playing a different game than i am :) I do agree that Tidecaller sucks ass, i wouldnt remove him, but i would make him a 1/3. It is just a suicide to buy this minion on T1, you are 100% guaranteed to lose your next two fights, if you want to level up tavern on next turn too. And the scaling is just too slow and still sits at 2hp which can die to almost anything. Wrath Weaver was buffed from 1/2 to 1/3 for this exact reason.
Attempt number two. Now it only has an effect that is done at the start of your turn, but still further explores the potential design space for this competition and stays true to flavor. It can also still be played when in your mulligan, unless there is spaghetti code with Casts When Drawn.

It may well be just 6 episodes knowing Netflix. :P They have this very weird model going on recently.
