I think it's bad that it took a month of uproar to make these changes happen - if Blizzard had done a good job with the design this would have been Plan A rather than Plan C (counting Plan B as the first small change where they adjusted later-level old pack rewards to gold) but at least it seems like they're going in the right direction. 500 gold and 5 packs is definitely not the worst olive branch to hand out. This is the first time since the concept of the battle pass came up months ago that I've felt like Blizzard might actually live up to the claim that people will not end up with less gold.
I felt the bad weekly quest mix a lot last week. I had one quest slot I had to reroll daily from Monday to Saturday until it rolled in to one that was relevant to how I actually play the game (Standard ladder, not running DMF Old Gods). Seems like I can still get stuck with BG quests now but at least there are fewer dead weight ones for me in the rotation.
I wasn't on the wait and see train, having analyzed the data, made graphs and determined that at least for me, the new system was bad.
But everything else in your post mirrors my own thoughts/approach also. Saving these packs plus my end of season packs and classic packs for the right time is the best strategy for most if you want to spend less gold. It does feel bad sitting on them though :)
The priest achievement You Ghuuna be sorry(spend 100 life as priest on cards) can, surprisingly, completed with Seadevil Stinger in wild in murloc Warlock deck.
I know its the salt thread, but as a friendly PSA, you have to play the base version of the corrupt card for the quest, bcs the HS team just doesn’t care anymore
I kind of expected that, but I was hopeful it was actually just a bug and not something as infuriatingly stupid as designing a keyword and forcing us to not utilize said keyword to its fullest potential.
We actually managed to do it. Took only 4 tries to queue into each other, and from then with clever deckbuilding and careful gameplay, it was actually a piece of cake. And as a bonus, it was a TON of fun.
We actually managed to do it. Took only 4 tries to queue into each other, and from then with clever deckbuilding and careful gameplay, it was actually a piece of cake. And as a bonus, it was a TON of fun.
The actual rank doesn't matter, so long as both players are down to zero bonus stars so the matchfinder uses the number of stars rather than the hidden MMR.
Both press 'Play' at the same time, synchronising this by the start of a new minute on the clock.
Immediately concede and repeat step 4 until we were playing against each other.
It only took us a handful attempts.
Now it is a friendly match, but on ladder so counts towards achievements!
Get BOTH players down to 1, 2 or 3 health.
Wait to draw Cho.
He'll be in the bottom 2 cards for both players (because of course he is).
Now play Cho, make a few back-ups with Sathrovarr, play Oh My Yogg!, and kill off the Elekks to refill the decks with junk spells.
Finally, with 1 Cho alive on the board, each player takes the following turn:
Play a 0 mana spell. This will be turned into a random 0 mana spell (probably useless), and pass to the opponent by Cho.
Play Oh My Yogg!, giving the opponent another copy too.
If Cho is targeted by Silence or Forbidden Words, just play another one (that's why we had back-ups).
Repeat until someone's spell is finally transformed into Raise Dead and kills that player.
Both players will get the achievement, even the player who killed themselves with the opponent's secret.
Both players thank each other.
Having done all of this nonsense, I actually think it was my favourite achievement by far. Is it stupidly unlikely to happen naturally? Yes. Is it stupidly difficult to set up? Yes. Do I feel like I really earned it? My goodness yes! It truly was an achievement to be proud of.
Excellent changes. Yes there are a few small things I would like to be changed also but I don't want to sound like I am complaining so won't mention them here. Overall a very much needed and welcomed piece of news.
Been posting graphs and my thoughts on reddit with hopefully what was a calm analytical quality. Never really bothered with reddit before this.
Looking forward to having a look at the data mined info Flux helpfully provides us.
I was already on the 'wait and see' train for the rewards track, but I have also gotten to the point where progress has slowed down considerably, so this is a nice change already. My biggest takeaway from this is that if you have already opened the packs you planned on getting from the Darkmoon Faire, you should hold on to those bonus packs (I'm also holding the monthly rewards ones) for when the 35 card mini expansion is released. If the new cards are distributed in a similar ratio to the previous Galakrond set, it will be 15 common, 12 rare, 4 epic and 4 legendary. You should not need more than 12 packs to get all the commons and at least one copy of the rares. If you can continue to be patient, climbing the ladder will reward you enough bonus rares at the start of the next month to finish off what you need. Legendary and epic cards will just come as the lottery dictates. This will be my approach for now, any pack rewards just go to the mini expansion and all gold goes to the next full expansion. I'm also taking this approach with any classic card packs. I'm expecting a partial classic set revamp at the next year rotation. Holding onto weekly tavern brawl packs and whatever else trickles out should help fill in any newly released cards. (I'm still crossing my fingers for Whizbang to be put in the classic set at some point.)
I'd really like to see them put out the availability of getting class card packs via gold. Because you are not able to get neutral or other class cards, I would like to think that they'd be willing to increase the cost of the packs to 150, but increase the chances of getting golden cards. I think that would be a welcomed change for the majority of players who like to stick to 1-3 basic classes.
What do you know? Blizzard realized that the rewards needed to be reworked. At least they are doing something to help the players instead of only their own pocket linings.
Very little to add to this that hasn't been said already, but I am happy with these latest updates - seems like we're moving in a better direction. I'm glad this site has kept things overwhelmingly civil throughout. Looking forward to jumping a few levels when the update goes live(!).
It will be interesting to see how things feel when the mini-expansion comes out too. I held back some DMF packs from Day 1 to help with that, which didn't feel good, but is a sign of the brave new world we live in with 170 card sets.
just do what he does. play concede decks, win a couple of games lose others and say you are having fun. or some new decks that can be good, start to notice how actually good they are and as u near the rank 1 diamond u change to a meme deck and lose all the way to rank 5.
But hey at least you are having fun.
i like watching some of his videos on ytb but nevermind watching him live. its a torture how his awesome decks are just eaten by turn 4 or 5.
They deserved the outrage from start to finish. And well Reddit is Reddit. I mean how could anybody at Team 5 not predict the backlash? The whole community reaction was totally predictable. That is also the reason I think the whole "Give them time to react" argument is flawed. Yes Blizzard is a big corporation but they should have seen this coming from miles away even before release. Time enough to prepare a Plan B. The bottom line is that they screwed it and were punished.
I wouldn't be too disappointed at the community, even if they seemed more partisan than usual. No one can ever say why blizz is acting as they do now, but I would personally attribute a large part of their action now to the massive uproar that have happened (yes, particularly in reddit). Its obvious that changes were needed, and the community did their part by voicing their displeasure.
Very fair. I think Blizzard’s biggest mistake was in giving people the chance to reevaluate what they’re spending on Hearthstone.
Personally, it’s been great for me. My spending averages out to about the cost of a Netflix subscription, but I use this a lot more. And it keeps me from buying tons o AAA games that I’ll never play, so I’m pretty sure that Hearthstone saves me money in the long run. But it is expensive if you’re not enjoying it, and I hope that everyone who’s stuck in an unhealthy cycle with the game finds the chance to switch to something they like more.
We will still have in-game events, of course, but they will remain consistent with our existing approach to event rewards instead of rewarding bonus XP for the rewards track.

Just as I said, this new rewards system and battle pass will be sorted out.. 'Squeaky wheel gets the oil'.
Now if only this preCOVID Tmobile issue gets resolved with the same enthusiasm.

Let's all just stop considering reddit a healthy-smart place to discuss things. I stoped reading the sub because it's annoying.

Honestly after the long silence, I lost hope for a statement like this.
Awesome that Blizzard decided to step in the right direction, I hope there's more to come.
But for now, let's all enjoy these awesome improvements. Maybe they are also looking at the dust structure of Hearthstone?
One may dream. :')
