For the record i think like you too. I still have boogiemonster, gazlowe, golden mukla and golden goya. And the list goes for way too much lol
I never disenchant cards if i not have the maximum playable copies, and don't have the strenght to disenchant even bad rotated legendaries.
But this still not change the value of a card, the objective value of a card is brutally it's DE cost. That said, i wouldn't DE shifter Zerus even if they offered me 10000 dust
I still think Flux was talking about those 2 legendaries in particular, the only one that can clarify it's him at this point
This is actually true. But the same things should be said for every card in every pack of every rarity (ok let's say only epics and legendaries, because the non duplicate rule).
If we consider the value of a pack as the average value of the DE costs of the cards that are inside it, then we have to do the same for the random legendaries, because it's the same concept
I fall into a little bit of all three categories of Hearthstone player you mentioned, although I'm mainly halved between the collector and laid-back attitude. I just like to rank up on the ladder for the rewards. Being "the best" in any mode means pretty much nothing to me. Also, were you thinking me with the "WoW fan" category of custom card creation, because you nailed me exactly, lol.
Another day, another decision that doesn't make ANY sense from Bli$$ard, this bundle is so dumb.. I don't even.. why are the packs not from the NEW expansion?
I already knew, I am only commenting on everything I did so that the experience I had, when telling it has coherence.
The main issue I have is that still, even if they shared a pity timer, I didn't get the first guaranteed one on the first ten packs.
I mean, I'm not complaining just with the bundle and 15 more pack I've gotten 6 legendaries, which of course could be better, but it's RNG even with the packs, so I'm ok with it.
So this is something that's actually wrong and people should point it out..
The pity timer set at 30 for the first 10 packs is something Blizzard STATED to be true... if there's a bug preventing it IT'S A PROBLEM! Hope people who experienced it will be compensated in any way, you should bug report it, it's probably cause the new reward system somehow messed up with the pity timer.
Ah, I see what you’re thinking. You’re right that if you only care about a couple specific legendaries, to the point where you would dust EVERYTHING that’s not them, then those legendaries are only worth 400 dust each.
Everyone will have different goals. But Flux and I are both assuming that the person in question would keep most legendaries in their collection. I think you’re making a good point that 1600 dust should get you a card you care about more than a random legendary. I’m not sure exactly what the final calculated value would be.
I'm not playing HS anymore, but I have to say that I never understood the "DE this terribad legendary" mentality. Do you really want to open that terribad legendary again later?
No. So, don't DE it. Having it in your collection makes it more likely that your next one is a desired one.
Oh, and don't get me started on the fact that terribad legendaries are an actual thing in HS. Can they really not make all legendaries at least marginally playable? Would it really be that hard? They are freaking legendary after all.
Edit - apparently duplicate protection also counts disenchanted cards, so apparently I'm wrong. Good to know.
You know the funny thing about that? A lot of people, me included cried out loud that powercreeping the cards was a mistake because the game was incredibly balanced around stats being vanilla and effects costing mana (even when they were bad) and it worked because Tempo has been the best archetype since beta, but now that every card has vanilla stats and some of them get incredibly op effects, it's not balanced at all in that same regard, so the only way to keep doing it is to YugiOh the cards (that doesn't work since all cards here cost mana instead of just "a card") so we end up with aggro/tempo being the most op stuff because they can play the cards earlier.
Your point is correct, 1600 d is the value of a wanted legendary, but you're wrong about assigning 400 dust value to a random leg. Random leg might be something you want, and then it would be worth full dust value, if you don't want it, it's worth 400 d for you.
With this logic, value of legendary from a specific set is subjective for every player, and one might get an estimate of that value by calculating weighted mean of all legendaries that he doesn't own, giving 1600 value to wanted, and 400 to unwanted ones.
How all that translates to gold (or packs) is a different story.
I think you misinterpreted both this article and my response, i don't want to sound rude.
The average dust value of a pack is 102.something, is that from 2014 and takes in consideration everything. That it's correct, there isn't any more math needed.
In the article then the 2 random legendaries are valued, wrongly, 3200. 1600 isn't the value of a random legendary, 1600 is the value of a wanted legendary.
400 is the value of a random legendary.
EDIT: i think the mistake comes from the part when Flux says "if you only care for the legendaries", he is referring to those 2 legendaries in the bundle, not legendaries in general
I'm not looking for any extra compensation or making a list of demands.. I think a lot of people take it a bit far but this is the internet. I've been around since Kobolds and Catacombs and I'll say this new system does feel a lot less rewarding. I usually do a pre order and an occasional mid season bundle. This time around I chose to go for the bonus experience on the rewards track. As someone who only has time to complete dailies it feels like I'm getting less in return and having to spend the extra money to get there, and that's a problem.
I would like to see them re-implement the 10g per 3 wins. There should also be a lot more gold / dust / pack rewards on the level track. 3 daily quests before would on average get you 200 gold and you could do whatever you wanted with that at no extra cost. Now my options feel restricted and my rewards feel picked for me. I won't continue to spend on this game in the next year if that's how restrictive they're going to be with reward systems when the premium is so high.
I already was “that guy” below. But your math is off, too. Flux is calculating what it would take to craft new legendaries, so he’s figuring out how you can get to 3200 dust. That part is correct.
The mistake the article made was that you also get legendaries in your packs. The math assumed that you’d disenchant those legendaries to get the dust to craft more. But you don’t disenchant them, you’ll net more legendaries in the end.
The problem I have with these 'deals' is that every player is going to have different needs. Blizzard needs to go to a system that allows players to customize these bundles so we can decide what packs are more relevant for our purposes. Maybe I would like to have more outland cards rather than Scholomance cards because I was less active at that time. Maybe a player disenchanted their wild cards but wants to get them back a little at time to play Duels. Every situation is unique and these deals need to start reflecting that idea if Blizzard ever wants to win back their players who have left.
My tip is to take it one game at a time. It sounds so basic, but that's really all you have to do. You're already at Diamond 3, and you're playing a really strong meta deck in Pure Paladin, so if you keep calm and take it a game at a time, you should be able to reach legend. Shrug off every loss and focus your energy and attention on your next opponent. I've found that being tilted is a surefire way to suffer a losing streak, it's happened to me too many times. You'll catch a break soon enough.
My most recent climb to legend saw me being stuck at Diamond 2 for 2 days. I kept alternating wins and losses with my Bomb Warrior deck, but the thing was, I never found myself dipping below Diamond 2 so I was confident I'd break through eventually, which I did when I hit a favorable patch of opponents for a winning streak.
So the gist of my advice would be: Don't think too much about hitting legend and just focus on winning the next game (if you can, ignore your progress even), and avoid getting tilted at all costs. If you lose your composure, take a break then jump back in when you're calm.
The calculation that this site always uses for these deals bugs me: You get a legendary about every 20 packs, and the estimate that packs are worth 102 dust assumes that you’re disenchanting every card. But if you’re focused on earning legendaries, wouldn’t you keep the ones you drew from the packs?!?
My personal records have me earning about 70 dust per pack if I subtract the value of the legendaries. I’ll defer to others with larger data sets for exact numbers. But if we assume each pack has a 5% chance of drawing a legendary and gives you 70 dust (4.4% of 1600), then we see that one legendary is worth 10-11 packs.
Also, remember not to let Hearthstone trick you into thinking that anything better than its baseline prices are a good deal. The make the base shop prices ridiculously high so that deals like these seem hard to pass up.
I get the sentiment of the original post, but I disagree that control is dying. In the last meta alone, we've had a number of viable control decks like Control Priest, Control Shaman, and Big Warrior. Even the Galakrond Bomb Warrior was played like a control deck sometimes; the game plan was to control your opponent's board long enough to see them die from all the bombs you shuffled in, if you don't kill them with weapon damage first.
I think the previous metas (outside of the Outland one, where DH was dominating) are pretty balanced, where you've got a good mix of aggro, control, and midrange decks to choose from. Honestly, I don't want a meta dominated by control. Do you remember the Dr. Boom, Mad Genius days? The Elysiana Warriors were terrible to face too. The games were long, grindy, and tiring. I definitely don't want to see a similar meta again.
AnAngryBadger - I like the flavor of it, your drawn minion coming to protect the Damsel, although it might make more sense in The Witchwood. It doesn't have much "wow" factor, but the idea is solid enough.
KANSAS - I feel like I've seen these somewhere before :P Of the two, I like Expert Tracker more: it's very versatile, while still being restricted enough to encourage tinkering with your deck. Grimstone is solid, but he's so universal that he could become an auto-include and that's boring.
fungusABao - It first reminded me of Murmuring Elemental, but instead of an Elemental body you get to draw the minion and hold onto the double-trigger. Probably should cost more (or Overload), if only because not being relegated to "this turn" is strong. Beyond that, I like it! The name should definitely be changed.
MenacingBagel - This seems crazy good in a Big Warrior deck. Armor up so your Health exceeds your opponent's, then burn them down with big clear after big clear. Don't even have to play the big minions; just let Grabshock do the work.
DavnanKillder - I agree with moving on from the moon card, if-only because we don't provide enough submission slots for the concept to play out as much as you might want it to. I like Call of Yogg-Saron more, anyway. If possible, I would maybe switch out the "Call of Power" art - that's Medivh, the Mage hero, so it would be weird for him to be associated with a Druid card (and a Yogg card at that).
anchorm4n - It should probably cost 3: Juicy Psychmelon can tutor out even more minions for 4-mana, including one that costs 10. This is a single draw, and has to be Corrupted to get the max value. That being said, I like how versatile it is overall, including the question of whether or not you actually want to Corrupt it.
DestroyerR - Interesting effect, "shuffling" your deck to guarantee that the next two cards will also be spells. Flavor matches up as well. Overall, a solid card all-around.
grumpymonk - I like Freak Show the most: that's just crazy enough to work lol. Some people might be put off by the Zerg artwork, though.
shaveyou - I think the name is a little weak, but beyond that I think the card is fine. Not much to say, really; it's pretty straight-forward. Encourages proper deck-building, but more of a Deathrattle-Beast hybrid instead of straight Beast Aggro.
Wailor + Demonxz95 - You admitted to submitting already, so no feedback for you :P

I don't want to be that guy, but the math is way off.
The 102 average dust per pack is the amount of dust you get by disenchanting the cards in the pack, so the average DE value.
To sum the dust value of the 2 legendiaries to the one of the packs, you have to consider the DE value, not the dust needed to create the cards.
So it's 800 for both, not 3200.
