Solarian prime can win games on its own, never mind that you can usually expect at least 2 of them per game. Whether its 7 mana or 9 mana, the only thing that changes here is that you can no longer just play this on 7 either as a last ditch card, and only have enough mana at 10 to cast one Ray of Frost in case it fails hard.
Needless to say, I don't expect anyone to start ditching Astromancer Solarian anytime soon. Even if all goes completely belly up for mage (an unlikely scenario) solarian will still be respected as one of the strongest cards from AoO, and I don't expect this nerf to change it by much.
(just so you dont spend too much time thinking about it, I didn't downvoted you. Just sharing thoughts)
Not really familiar with WoW lore, but a water-themed expansion would be great. Something with Naga and sea creatures would be nice (something other than Murlocs). I guess that could be interesting, also mechanic wise.
As a wild player I do not find these nerfs to be necessary. Mage as a whole is not that strong and none of these two cards were overpowered from my point of view. I did not realize that they must have been problematic in standard.
Edit: Guess the variance in wild is just much bigger. Getting Evocation from spell generation effects like Wandmaker is far less likely.
"The Open Seas" has great potential for a murloc-centric expansion, something we haven't really gotten in a long long time. There's lots of monsters to draw on from BFA's Island Expeditions, and other huge tentacle-y things present around the main continents. Maybe they could also answer the question of what lies on the dark side of Azeroth?
Why RIP Wild? She's always been there and is the fuel for some truly disgusting turns. Luckily Wild has the Tools to nuke a Mage before they can get going. But Sorcerers Apprentice really needs to get Nerfed. Really.
I'd like something Shadowlands related. Partially because it will the the first wow expansion that I won't play, and I do like the vibe of afterlife things.
Hey at least we have to wait 5-6 months before we finally get another rogue skin, and it's a reskin. Alright enough joking around. It's interesting that Thrall is the last hero in the book of heroes (from the classes that have been here since launch). Just like how Shamans are on the bottom on winrates in the meta. (alright i'll stop joking around). Thrall is a very important character in WOW and connected with a lot of the heroes, so it's not a big surprice you need to play the other book of heroes in order to play his eventually.
I recently saw a video from Nobbel about Garrosh backstory/lore, and i'm really excited to see how the HS wil integrate that into the book of heroes. i'm honestly more afraid that it will be "another Jaina" because his story is a pretty long one, and might be hard to fit into only 8 fights. (but i do hope the Garrosh vs Jaina at theramore fight we saw in Jaina's book of heroes will be included, except you play as Garrosh instead.) Also i wonder where the Garrosh book of heroes will end, my guess is slightly before that raid where he is the raid boss. (Yet again, i don't play WOW. So i'm just guessing from lore video's i saw on youtube.)
Also i'm really looking forward to Uthers book of heroes. I don't actually know too much about Uther, except for the fact that he teached Arthas, and that he was killed by Arthas, who was corrupted by The Lich King/Frostmourne. I wonder if the Uther book of heroes will end with "Uther gets killed by Arthas, and his soul (As we now know) partially absorbed into Frostmourne." That would be a unique twist to the book of heroes, as none of the other book of heroes ended like this yet. Either way Uthers book of heroes will probably include a bit of Arthas action.
I am indeed saying RNG in Mana Cyclone (and Evocation for that matter) is more acceptable, at least to me. There's a huge difference between RNG putting something into your hand and RNG doing something straight onto the board, particularly with regards to:
The choice given on when to play them and, if relevant, what to target.
This both reduces the total RNG (targets aren't chosen randomly), and returns control to the player, even allowing them to demonstrate a modicum of skill if they are able to make good use out of something tough to use.
They are played at full mana cost if put in hand.
This reduces the variance in how swingy a turn is since more powerful cards tend to cost more mana, and so you can do less alongside them. Hence, if you are given something strong, the opponent has time to respond appropriately.
I guess you could put it on a spectrum of RNG: card order in deck -> RNG in hand -> RNG on board.
None of this is a comment on power, and I am well aware the trio of cards I listed can be as harmful as they are good. It is more about whether I feel the player using these cards (myself included) earns it when they win with them, and if I ever answer 'yes' to that, it is entirely based on the other cards they play. The issue is not helped by there being 3 of them in Standard at the same time, so to beat highlander mage with a slow deck it fells like you have to survive 2 waves of possible BS from PuzzleBox and Solarian, then deal with Reno casting anything between Totemic Might and Plague of Death each turn.
Edit: I'm a burgle rogue player much more than a cyclone mage player. Both are based in RNG in hand, but the mana cost and 'when to play them' comments do apply a little differently. Mostly that's Sorcerer's Apprentice's fault, which is outside the discussion on types of RNG, so I chose to ignore her here.
well Wand Thief discovers any random mage card, so this Evocation nerf doesn't really affect Wand Thief, except for the fact that it's harder to play both in 1 turn. But that's it.
