Have the Cupcake card back from when it was the card back of the month, but if I try to make it my favorite it doesn't stick, unlike basically any of the other card backs. Don't have the Naxx back so can't test that. Definitely seems like there is a bug here.
To play nightfall effect you need to play at least 2 cards each turn (and more than 1 mana), and until now we haven't seen many card draw in Targon (there's 2 mana heal and draw). So maybe nightfall deck is a little bit restricting to build. Idk, maybe there will be cards that help..
Although, while I don't know about your dust bank, both Leoroxx and Slate will remain in Standard for another year and they're both most likely to receive future support (and they're really fun)
Then again, it's not like they're that good anyways, so if you're on a budget you should probably skip this one.
I'm growing bored with Runeterra. I don't play ladder, Labs is incredibly random, and Expedition mode is, IMO, like Arena but worse. That leaves Casual play, which is sometimes fun, but I have more Shards than I know what to do with and could craft enough Champions to have 3x of every existing one. I've max leveled every region, and I'm just growing bored and frustrated with the mechanics and how much decks rely on a single Champion.
How is HS these days? I haven't played in probably a year, but I've still watched my favorite streamers. Battlegrounds looks really fun - is it free or do you have to pay? How's the deck variety in regular play? I do like what they've done with Ranked. Playing LoR has made me really appreciate a lot of the mechanics of HS, believe it or not.
Same feeling here. I hated so much the RNG fiesta in HS (I started just after the closed beta)... The last 3 years, I tried different card games and found LoR very player-friendly. I jumped in and almost stop HS entirely.
However, I just got bored after 6-8 months. I love many of the mechanics (spell mana reserve is just a great idea, etc.) but somehow LoR just feels/taste stale. Perhaps this is because I am not a LoL player... So weird to see a well-rounded game engine, yet to see it became so un-attractive so fast.
It surprises me to say that LoR made me appreciate that RnG is in the HS DNA and actually what it gives its spice and its bubbles. Granted it is sometimes annoying but better to be sometimes annoyed than bored. It is a game after all.
The good thing from LoR is that it forces Blizzard to innovate and also to review down its monetization (while still nicely profitable) the last 12 months or so (let's hope that the battle pass will be better player-friendly than the oops "test-announcement" we have seen). For this alone, I wish LoR (and will keep playing a bit of it) a very long life ;)
Exactly my same thoughts! I wish Runeterra started you with more health - having a 40 card deck and 20 starting health with no overheal/armor makes it very draw dependent (moreso than HS in my opinion) and favors aggro decks. .
I’m curious about the focus on budget decks here. Does that really matter in Runeterra? I’ve been almost entirely a F2P player (other than the new player bundle), and I’ve had no trouble crafting a brand new deck every few weeks using the resources I get from the region road and my level 10 vaults (occasionally level 11). I won’t be able to dive into Targon as soon as the expansion comes out, but otherwise I have all the in-game resources I could want.
When I hear people talk about needing budget decks, I have to wonder: Am I just getting lucky somehow? Do they want to make entirely new decks more often than I do? Or are these people just unable to reach vault level 10 regularly?
You could be right, I just feel you might prefer to run a 3 drop that isn't relying on being played at a later point in the game, at least in an aggro deck. A lot of the cards in those decks are just generally strong cards that are flexible enough to be played whenever its needed.

Yeah I agree with you that the set structure might be a bit disappointing for people who enjoy playing a few specific regions, but I feel like it's sort of a necessary evil because of the fact that sets include an additional region. Riot can't really release Targon with only 2 or 3 champions and expect it to feel like a full region, so they are forced to release a lot of Targon cards in the first expansion of the set. Given that they want each card release to be fairly small (so that card releases can be spread out more), they aren't left with enough extra card spots to give all regions a significant amount of cards. I think once all of the regions are released there will be a much more even distribution of each region's cards across expansions in a set.
On the plus side, there are some reasons why unequal region card distribution can be good. Unequal card distribution allows different regions to rotate in and out of high popularity. For example, imagine if Badgerbear and Grizzled Ranger had been released in the second expansion of a set. This would have made Demacia underpowered in the first expansion of the set, allowing other regions to be dominant for a while, and then when the second expansion launched Demacia would be really good and brought back into the meta. This would make the game feel more fresh because it wouldn't be perpetually dominated by the few best regions (for example, Ionia and Shadow Isles, or more recently Freljord), as long as the new cards are slightly better than the old ones. Also, a few cards can have a huge impact on decks. For example, Blighted Caretaker and Neverglade collector could be released as cards in an expansion where Shadow Isles doesn't receive a champion and they would significantly change what Shadow Isles decks are best. If Riot manages to be really smart about which cards they release in each expansion, I think that this system will work pretty well.
While i can see that often this card would be the only on curve option for turn 3, it's hard for me to see that it will be often the only option for that turn, probably there is a less mana efficient one (spell mana punishes non on curve plays way less than other card games).
In truth i don't see this card played that many times on turn 3 (unless godly hand), but still on a later turn crescent guardian plus another treath is very strong.
That isn't always true, if you are the aggro deck and this is your only on curve play to keep applying pressure you still need to play this often enough to ensure the opposing player doesn't get time to gain control over the board.
Watch from this perspective: if an aggro deck is pressuring you that much that you have to play crescent guardian as a 3/3 blocker, you are probably playing versus a deck where the plus 2 attack is probably not going to matter for trades
Extremely good even outside a Nightfall archetype. I'm sure they mainly wanted Targon to have a good Elusive blocker, but this is probably OP in a deck with other elusives and/or enough support.
The warrior cards from this adventure have seen play since it launched, especially since the weapon synergy cards with Corsair Cache and Cutting class were printed.
Mage got the Reno Jackson hero card that's used in their highlander and "no minion" deck lists
There's quite a number of good cards in this set imo.
Yea I was mostly prompted by realizing how useful Reno would be in certain matchups (cough...Druid, Libram Paladin).
You could be right, I can see a world where I'm wrong about the Crescent Guardian, it doesn't take much for that to happen. I just worry that as a 3/3 it is really weak and I get the feeling there will be the times when you have to drop it as that and feel awful doing it.
The 1 drop is nice, an early body that gives you a 1 mana spell that let you play a nightfall card without losing priority. The petal can be used to play a nightfall unit a turn before if you have one spell mana.
The 2 drop is a 2 mana 2/3 elusive, which is a good stateline for her keyword; targon has some support cards and this follower is a good one to permanent buff.
The 3 drop is very strong in offesive decks, 5/3 with overwhelm is huge for a 3 drop. Paired with a support unit like Taric seems very strong.
Considering how reveals are coming out, tomorrow will be revealed a targon champion with nightfall synergy (it's pretty clear what champion it will be, even for me, and i know 0 about LoL's lore) and other non-champ card too. But the cards revealed today are already good enough for me

This card is also really good with all of the permanent buffs Targon has. Giving this a few gems or a Blessing of Targon makes this a real threat. Gems are also really good for triggering Nightfall, so the deck already has some natural synergy.
I think you’re underestimating the Crescent Guardian, since it’s basically a better version of the Noxus 4/3 Overwhelm (if you can reliably trigger Nightfall). I think if a Targon Aggro deck exists Crescent Guardian could be included in it, but it’s definitely possible that Targon won’t have an Aggro deck. The 1 drop is also really good, since it lets you trigger Nightfall on two turns for only one card, and it allows you to play Nightfall units a turn before they are supposed to hit the board.
I think I made Fletch happen
This looks interesting. Off the top of your head, how would you make a wild version of this?
