  • 7 Off-Meta Decks Using Unpopular Scholomance Legendaries

Slate was my pre-order golden.  Or as I normally call the bad golden legendaries I get from pre-orders: my “choose your own non-golden legendary” legendary.

  • MTG's Historic Format Gets a Banned & Restricted Announcement on Monday - No Other Formats Impacted

Does Arena have a restricted list?  Reclamation decks are horrible to play against but I feel like it could function as a 'one of' card instead of a build around.

  • 7 Off-Meta Decks Using Unpopular Scholomance Legendaries

    Pro

Just gonna throw a plug in for YourPrivateNightmare's Hunter deck using Professor Slate (second on the list above). I've been playing this deck at Diamond 10 with something like 50% winrate, and having LOTS of fun! The Krush/Ramkahen/Leoroxx combo can amount to a lethal burst, and Arcane Fletcher plus Pen Flinger is just bonkers.

  • (Wild) Even Totem Shaman

Was thinking about Vessina, but would have to take a different approach to include more overload cards.

I didn't know that this was ever a thing, but it would be cool for me to see if it ever comes back.

  • Gok'amok is impossible. Tips plz.

I just played the match two more times, and won one of those two. So now I've got a 66% win rate against Gok'amok for the day at this point. I'm not saying that to brag or be a jerk about it, but rather to emphasize that it's not just a matter of "lucking out." The whole point of the Ashes of Outland story content is to get players familiar with the fundamental play patterns of the Demon Hunter class.

Because his hero power costs 1, Gok'amok plays slower than his deck should. So unless he gets a very powerful random effect early (something crazy like Deep Freeze) you should be able to get on board early. That will help ensure your hero power's attack value is +2, which is a big deal if you're trying to trade health for board control. If you mulligan for early board control tools (e.g. Furious Felfin, Imprisoned Felmaw, Twin Slice, and Chaos Strike) you should be able to maintain control long enough to snowball into your bigger outcast effects.

Ultimately you're the aggro in the match-up, since his hero power will out-value you eventually, so you need to be pretty liberal with your health to make sure you don't lose your board, and only take the highest value trades or trades with rush minions so you can keep pushing a bit of damage to face each turn.

I knew something was wrong with it a long time ago when I first noticed no receiving it. I was then told to look into my spambox ...
Like Doomsayer would say, right before his last breath: " 'Knew it!"
It wasn't any new information for anyone already using a decktracker, but every now and then, they would give you a really - specific & narrow, yet -flattering portrait of the season: Your win rate, 100%, against Mage with Rogue on Ladder, Eliminated 32 opponents out of Arena from 12 different countries - or something like that

  • Miss the Hearthstone Monthly Stats Newsletter? It Will Return in the Future

    Conspiracy Theory time:

    1. They are currently unable to pull stats for the newsletters.
    2. They have stated (iirc) that they are working to provide more detailed stats in game
    3. Perhaps these things are related?? They have internally taken down/overwritten the stats collection to put into place and internally test the new system?

    Maybe unrelated, but interesting coincidence

  • Rattlegore - Weird Interaction

Rattlegore is actually 8 minions in one, each an individual card.

I make some testing with [Hearthstone Card (N'Zoth, the Corruptor) Not Found] and really happen this way (summon all diferent copies from 9/9 to 1/1). I firstly thought that the card works checking the orginal card stats without buffs and debufs (that's why I don't think about Subdue). What I do not consider was that Bandersmosh and Shadowy Figure works as effects applied on the card.

Anyway, for the consistence of texting would be better use the "Deathrattle: summon an x/x Rattlegore" for each card of the secuence, avoiding this kind of situations.

  • Hearthstone Hotfixes - Ysera, Unleashed Can No Longer Summon Nozdormu

    Quote From 500cats

wasnt the Nozdormu bug fixed at some point? I remember a very janky and fringe combo deck way back that used him and 2 Brewmasters sending each other back to the hand to keep eating your opponents turn but eventually blizz addressed it and then no longer worked.

Maybe i'm misremembering, it's not like the Noz combo was ever widely played, tho if not i wonder what caused him to break again

From what I remember they fixed that specific issue and a number of others similar, but equivalent issues popped up consistently still. In the case of Ysera of course, the fact that it is probably popping up at the start of your turn (or in the middle of a long animation of cards draws from Overflow and potential dragon pulls)

Now that's a great goal idea! Would be nice to have that immortalized in an email that also tells you about how many Murlocs were played that month. =D

I REALLY miss them. They did not tell much, but I'd love to see them. Would've been awesome to have that the season I got to legend... I guess I'll have to try it again when the emails return.

  • Nightfall Keyword Reveals Continue for Call of the Mountain - 3 New Targon Cards Revealed

Crescent Guardian is definitely not an aggro card. It is a very good, surprisingly flexible midrange card.

Nightfall in general doesn't make a lot of sense for aggro (so far). Aggro needs to squeeze all the value it can from every card it plays, and that's just not something you can do consistently with the Nightfall keyword in the early game. Also, Nocturne is definitely not an aggro Champion. It is possible that Diana will come along and change everything, of course.

  • Nightfall Keyword Reveals Continue for Call of the Mountain - 3 New Targon Cards Revealed

    Way too subtle, Nevin.

You just gotta go BOOM Lunari Duskbringer.

Also there's Zenith Blade, not to mention all the Gem generators. Plenty of ways to keep your Nightfalls going regardless of your secondary region.

  • Spin, Spin, Spin, You Win! A Guide to Runeterra's Casino Twisted Fate - Deck Spotlight

Playing consistently since open beta, I have a full collection, minus a few Champions I haven't bothered to craft because they don't interest me.

Yet I've never played Casino TF, so this is great. And it doesn't bother me to have articles geared at those who would play less.

  • Hearthstone's Cupcake Card Back Returns, But Not For All

I have it, since i earned it back in the day, but i cant use it for some reason.

  • Rattlegore - Weird Interaction

I suppose "Deathrattle: summon an 8/8 Rattlegore. It gets 1/1 smaller each time it dies." would be a clear way to write it, so each successive Rattlegore can replace 8/8 with the appropriately sized X/X, and summoned copies would explicitly state how large it will be.

While that may be better overall, I am personally OK with the current, super succinct description. At least it explains the base card well and is an instance where any confusion only leads to a pleasant surprise for the player who has a Rattlegore from another card, e.g. via Bandersmosh or Shadowy Figure.

  • Rattlegore - Weird Interaction

Its not really a weird interaction. Rattlegore is actually 8 minions in one, each an individual card. Its does not really interact with the health/attack of the minion itself, hence why Subdue doesnt just kill it all at once.

Its more like team5's code for this card is actually very different from its description. Very confusing, to be honest.

  • Rattlegore - Weird Interaction

I was playing some Galakrond priest deck, so I generate randomly 2 copies of Shadowy Figure. On other side I get Bandersmosh from Brightwing. At this point i could play a Rattlegore from a transformed Bandersmosh, so it was a 5/5 minion and copy it with both Shadowy Figure (2/2 copies).

What happen was that after killing both Shadowy Figure transformed into the Rattlegore, was summon an 8/8 Rattlegore instead of a 1/1.

Now I understant that Rattlegore works checking the original card and not the original stats of the minion, but seems a bit confusing.

  • Hearthstone's Cupcake Card Back Returns, But Not For All

That's now 2 card back promotion in a row that I'm lucky enough not to be affected by, other than the minor bummer from realizing that they are not longer time-exclusive-bound ; oh well. I must say, it is quite unfair for anyone that was hoping to acquire it that way.

  • Spin, Spin, Spin, You Win! A Guide to Runeterra's Casino Twisted Fate - Deck Spotlight

    Quote From Nevin

I’m curious about the focus on budget decks here. Does that really matter in Runeterra? I’ve been almost entirely a F2P player (other than the new player bundle), and I’ve had no trouble crafting a brand new deck every few weeks using the resources I get from the region road and my level 10 vaults (occasionally level 11). I won’t be able to dive into Targon as soon as the expansion comes out, but otherwise I have all the in-game resources I could want.

Great question, Nevin! I think it depends entirely on the audience. As you point out, LoR is relatively generous with crafting resources every week to those who play regularly, but many players are either just starting out or only play infrequently. I intentionally chose this archetype as it's the best of both worlds: novel enough to interest veteran players yet affordable enough for those with limited resources. Honestly, I don't know how readers here skew, so I'm very excited to see if there is communal preference for one or the other.

  • Thoughts on the new sets and expansion structure

Riot can't really release Targon with only 2 or 3 champions and expect it to feel like a full region, so they are forced to release a lot of Targon cards in the first expansion of the set.

My concerns have less to do with releasing a lot of Targon content up front, and more to do with how little content 50% of the current regions are going to get. I spent a fair amount of my original post thinking through how many cards Targon would probably have on release of this expansion as a means of emphasizing how little was left for Demacia, P&Z, Noxus, and Bilgewater. Ultimately, I'd prefer to see a lot of Targon, and a little of everything else, followed by expansions in which each region starts to get a more even number of cards. Instead, we're getting a lot of Targon, a nearly full expansion of Freljord, SI, and Ionia, and a very tiny bit of everything else.

I think once all of the regions are released there will be a much more even distribution of each region's cards across expansions in a set.

Maybe - but they're talking about releasing new regions every six months, and they've still got a bunch of regions left (assuming they don't fuse any more or create their own, they've got Bandle City, Ixtal, Shurima, and The Void). That's two years worth of content. If they don't manage the game well in that time, it could easily become irrelevant in the competitive CCG space before they hit this presumed equilibrium, so how they manage new content while adding regions is still very important.

Unequal card distribution allows different regions to rotate in and out of high popularity. For example, imagine if Badgerbear and Grizzled Ranger had been released in the second expansion of a set. This would have made Demacia underpowered in the first expansion of the set, allowing other regions to be dominant for a while, and then when the second expansion launched Demacia would be really good and brought back into the meta. This would make the game feel more fresh because it wouldn't be perpetually dominated by the few best regions (for example, Ionia and Shadow Isles, or more recently Freljord), as long as the new cards are slightly better than the old ones.

I think my biggest concern here is that what you're describing sounds a lot like an artificial metagame reinforced by power creep, wherein regions with the most cards start out as the most powerful, and then "slightly better" cards enter for the lagging regions to overpower those previously buffed regions. Maybe there's a brief equilibrium at the very tail end of a set, but shortly thereafter there's another cycle with a new set.

This creates a game where, if you're a big fan of some region X, you only ever play when region X gets an expansion boost because you know that's when it will be most relevant in the metagame. And while LoR is pretty F2P friendly - which diminishes some of the negative aspects of power creep/whales - power creep still does a lot of harm to the "collection" aspect of CCGs.

Also, a few cards can have a huge impact on decks. For example, Blighted Caretaker and Neverglade collector could be released as cards in an expansion where Shadow Isles doesn't receive a champion and they would significantly change what Shadow Isles decks are best. If Riot manages to be really smart about which cards they release in each expansion, I think that this system will work pretty well.

This is definitely true - a small number of cards can be what you need for an archetype to hit a critical mass of good tools and become powerful. But that doesn't mean they're setting themselves up for success, it just means their current system doesn't preclude success.

  • I think I made Fletch happen

    Quote From Nirast

This looks interesting. Off the top of your head, how would you make a wild version of this?

I wouldn't because it's really slow and mainly reliant on the fact that there's very little healing in Standard currently.

I don't even think there's a point to it in Wild (other than being able to use Fire Fly). Maybe Quick Shot helps with reach, but overall I think the decklist is pretty much set in stone.
