  • A Look Back At Historically Overhyped Hearthstone Cards

Great topic and well presented. Keep it up.

Most (all?) of the cards on this list have a high "fun" value but are not as good at competitive play. I tend to play these type of cards when I need a break from climbing and hit a "shelf". These types of decks are really fun when they work and to play, they just don't tend to win that often.

I am glad that these types of cards are in the game, and do like that Team 5 makes them.

Nice article! There could be other additions to your list though, as there were several overhyped cards in the game's history.

Off the top of my head, I remember people seriously hyping up Lady in White (myself included) during the Witchwood reveals. Casting Inner Fire on your entire deck seemed strong, but with no means to tutor the Lady, well, it ended up never seeing play in constructed. And building your deck with only high-health minions wasn't really a good idea.

There are definitely several other cards that would be eligible for the list. However, I decided to keep the list to a maximum of one card per set and try to use very "significant" examples in the interest of keeping the article at a reasonable length.

  • A Look Back At Historically Overhyped Hearthstone Cards

    Many of the usual traits of poor cards;

    - Cost over 6 and has no taunt or rush, and the effect doesn't win you the game

    - Trying to make hunter any other archetype other than aggro or midrange

    - Trying to make priest a tempo class (cross my fingers its going to work this time)

    - Good cards that can only be good in a poor deck

    - Inconsistent

I fall to many of the same hype traps myself. Unfortunately, its sometimes difficult to remember that a good majority of standard games will probably be against some form of aggro deck.

I think there are even more cards, on top of my head Frizz Kindleroost was so overrated and it should be in the list

Troggzor the Earthinator and Varian Wrynn (basically every 7+ mana minion at the time) was killed by Dr. Boom, so it's not really the community's overhype.

Who ever hyped Feast of Souls while Skull of Gul'dan existed? I guess skull was revealed later but still, feast is way worse than even Battle Rage.

  • Blizzard Workers Share Salaries in Revolt Over Wage Disparities

Thanks for sharing this. Wholly agree with you that the Hearthstone team is doing great work, and they - including all other employees within the gaming industry, from developers, to customer service rep's, to play-testers - deserve recognition, a fair wage, and a good standard of living (like any person, really).

It is nuts that there can be such a disparity between CEO packages ($40 million!) and employees scraping by on minimum wage. I'm no businessman, nor an economist, nor an accountant or a labour unionist: I just play video games, and I really want the money I spend to be reinvested into the people that helped create them.

  • New Neutral Minion - Intrepid Initiate

Solid 1 drop for tempo decks.

  • Our Thoughts on Hearthstone's Scholomance Academy Paladin Cards

I agree. There’s nothing too flashy here, and no common theme to attract attention, but a lot of the cards are just strong. There has to be a deck that makes these cards work.

  • Thoughts about the New Game Mode?

It’s a simple idea to throw out there... but I would honestly love a mode where only 2 expansions can be used at a time and it cycles every month.

ive been watching Regis’ fireside videos of him playing people having only to use the new cards and it is such a minimalist challenge to make the best out of such a limited pool.

Maybe 3 sets would be more realistic but even if it was just one  I would still be on board. Sometimes the volume of card selections ends up polarizing decks to seeing the same damn cards played over and over. Would be cool to have a mode with its own ladder that was very limited and see what people come up with..

  • The Lore and Backstories of Scholomance's Legendary Minions - Archivist's Lore

Thank you for taking the time to make an account and comment :) I'm sincerely glad that you enjoy them so much and that they have such a positive effect on you. There really is something refreshing about taking some time to recharge while your mind is in an exciting new world.

  • New Neutral Minion - Smug Senior

Maybe can see play in some kind of big deck.

    But looks like garbage.

  • New Priest Minion - Frazzled Freshman

Really good for buff decks. But bad card for Galakrond Hero power.

  • New Shaman Spell - Tidal Wave

It's an expensive card, but the Healing makes it worth it. As an avid Shaman player, I often find that I'm doomed if I can't win in the mid-game. This should help make the late game transition easier, and may even save me from lethal if played right.

As a bonus: no Overload. *click* Nice!

  • New Mage Minion - Lab Partner

I never thought I'd see the day: a 1 mana Spell Damage card, with good stats too! It might be an auto-include à la Northshire Cleric. Both cards have good stats for 1 mana and both have a beneficial effect central to the class they're in.

  • New Mage Minion - Wyrm Weaver

It's beautiful and I want it to work. I haven't touched Mage in a long while but this card seems like so much fun to pull off. Plus: having Mana Wyrms on board is going to feel wonderfully nostalgic.

As a card: it's got fine stats for its cost, especially once spread across three bodies. Spellburst won't be tough to activate in Mage either, so it's almost guaranteed to go off if it isn't quickly removed.

  • New Paladin & Warrior Spell - Shield of Honor

Looks excellent for both classes! Divine Shield is a powerful defensive effect, coupled with the Attack buff it's fantastic, especially at 1 mana. I don't usually play Warrior though, so I'm going to hate running into this card XD

  • New Paladin Minion - Turalyon, the Tenured

It's good, but not great. I think it'll make the cut in a few decks, perhaps if players are missing some other key removal card. I do like the effect though, and I loved Sunkeeper Tarim back in the post-Un'goro meta. Unlike Tarim though, I won't be crafting this Prof.

  • New Paladin Minion - Argent Braggart

Ooh, this'll be annoying to play against. Granted, it's weak to flood-the-board aggro, but on a board with one or two big minions this adds to it well. If they're opponent's minions that you can weaken/remove, all the better (Subdue, I'm looking at you).

  • New Paladin Spell - First Day of School

That card fits a lot of archetypes.

Refill for aggro and early cards for pure/big.

    Nice card.

  • New Paladin Spell - Blessing of Authority

Wow... I did a double-take when I saw (5). Double Blessing of Kings for one extra mana? The downside really isn't that bad because a minion that large, so early, is very likely to stick around and wreak havoc.

  • New Shaman Spell - Tidal Wave

    Aoe+heal.

And with spell damage support that can be a huge game swing.

  • New Paladin Minion - Judicious Junior

Solid stats. This'd make an excellent target for buffs and would be a great random 6-drop. Tentatively, I do think this will see play in some constructed deck since it's such a great target for Paladin spells. Stick a few Librams of Wisdom on this and you're good to go.

  • New Paladin Minion - Judicious Junior

Good body, but too slow to beat agro decks.

  • New Warlock Minion - Boneweb Egg

    Mah card.

Maybe Next expanions supports discolock, but now the discart carts discarts the high costed cards.
