I can relate to so much of this! When I first started playing the game I didn’t know what net decking was, and I avoided the ladder. I missed many months of card backs because I only played casual thanks to ladder anxiety. I only have two golden heroes (hunter and warlock) which belies how long I have been a daily player.
Now I don’t worry about rank or falling on the ladder, and I want to work towards 500 wins on all the other classes. The grind is brutal!
I also really want to get the 1000 win Gul’dan. I think it’s my favorite art in the game.

Thekal is one of those legendaries that are good but are not essential. This unit gives you the opportunity to dramatically increase your life total in case you hit an early Reno Jackson (which is something every Highlander decks wants to do): being at 60-ish life is good versus both aggro and Reno Priest/Quest Mage. Moreover, you have the Molten Giant highroll combo for the early control of the board.
But again, if the question is "can I play with deck without Thekal?" my answer is definitely yes: go ahead and include any other card you deem useful (SN1P-SN4P? Time Out!?).

Keep in mind that these are fun decks, but they're definitely not tier 1 lists, so if you miss some Legendaries that don't see much play outside of these builds (Beardo for example is good only with Uther of the Ebon Blade: the card doesn't see play anywhere else) and you're hesitant, my suggestion is to keep your dust and wait for something more performing to pop up.
However, if the only thing you care about is fun, then go ahead and try some Hero Power shenanigans: in the end it's all up to you.

It's getting pretty grindy though. Priest is generally a pretty slow deck which I don't care for. Any suggestions? I have most cards or I can craft anything I need. Right now I'm just playing Highlander.
After Priest is Warrior around 330 and Warlock is in the 200s. Then Demon Hunter is at like 40 😆
I think that most of us will come out ahead this way. If you can get to rank 5 (4000 XP) in 2 days, you’ll earn a random champion and an extra expedition token, plus a few cards and shards. On the other hand, if we have a 9-day week then you need 4000-4500 extra XP just to earn 5 more cards and another couple hundred shards.
Yeah, it's definitely one of the main issues with the deck. I've thought about adding Zephrys for the combo turn - play Beastmaster first to let Zephrys know you have the damage, then play Zephrys and get Silence so we can beat one taunt. Unfortunately I don't own Zephrys so I can't really test it.
Also, which card did you sub out for Scrap Shot? I've been trying to fit one in as well, but I haven't found the right card to cut.
I'm no art expert, but in my opinion, the art style for HS has stayed consistent and most cards have, at the very least, interesting art. So thanks, Ben, and thanks to the other artists that stay true to HS's style.
Thanks for the decks, nowadays standard has really bored me and have turned my eyes to wild again where some of my fav cards like Yogg still can be played, I'll try the Highlander Paladdin OTK deck, my only problem is that I don't have High Priest Thekal but I don't think it's too necessary but it would be good to better use the healing cards.

well written instructions! I had to add Scrap Shot to my deck in order to make this work. Played roughly 10 games with this and there is always at least 1 taunt on board since everyone knows what combo you’re going for.
