  • I Miss My X - Card Design Competition Discussion Thread

I really don't like the idea of him hexing himself. Make it two other random minions and it would be great!

Wouldn't that make him too OP then? Or would he be situational enough since he's a legendary and you shouldn't have minions on your side of the board...

I think you could get away with it. Blizzard could always nerf the card later lol

For the Violet Spellshielder I figured it would be better if it worked as a Battlecry from the last turn, that way you wouldn't have to incorporate playing the Spellshielder into the turn you deal excess damage. The Crimson Spellzerker and the Desert Plaguebringer both provide a more interesting payoff than Armor, so I think they might be more interesting designs.

    • By adding the Battlecry, I think Violet Spellshielder's complexity has reached a zenith. Its condition is so specific; I honestly prefer the aura, despite how difficult it might be to combo. Also, "last turn" spell-usage has become a Shaman thing, so being Neutral is starting to feel weird to me.
    • Of the three presented, I like Crimson Spellzerker the most. Flavor-wise she seems to grow in power from the excess energy you're flinging around.
    • I like Desert Plaguebringer's flavor, but I'm not a fan of the card's effect because you're taking the Locusts gameplay away from the Hunter in the set it was introduced. You could correct that by making it a Hunter card, except the Hunter hasn't gotten a lot of damaging spells lately.

Alright, that was an amazing show. I was disappointed Kojima never showed up, but to expect an announcement of anything new with Death Stranding releasing less than a year ago was incredible optimism lol.

The design of the new console is incredible. Console design has gotten quite boring over the past couple of generations and seeing the curves on the PS5 makes me think fun instead of boring lines. That's not to say I hate console design that is simple, there is a special elegance with it and I certainly enjoy the look of the Xbox Series X, but this is something special.

The optical drive version is a little bit on the chonky side, but damn do I love it. Plus, a necessary evil for me since any game I can buy physically is always on a disk.

    The games.

    Horizon Forbidden West

I still haven't played the first game despite purchasing it on an Amazon Prime Day sale last year. I know its good I just haven't found the time to commit to it. Holy damn does the second look amazing. A theme throughout the panel is me asking why they don't put text in the bottom of the corner of the stream indicating what is in-game an what isn't because it is seriously hard to believe this tech is possible on a console now. I think it is crazy that some people are going to have a console that blows their gaming PC out of the water this year.

Very pretty looking game though and as long as the mechanics are similar, I'm sure it's going to be an amazing time.

    Ghostwire: Tokyo

This looks like it'll be an interesting horror/psychological game. Graphically speaking A++, and the Tokyo theme will always be a favourite of mine. Tough to say much more though... I guess that's a common theme here since we haven't really had a chance to see much gameplay of anything shown today.

    Kena: Bridge of Spirits

Okay, what the hell. Seriously, how are we rendering these games on consoles?! I'm very intrigued by their trailer (linked below) as this looks like it'll be a fun fast-paced adventure. The lighting is absolutely amazing, the little black puffy things are adorable, and I look forward to hitting stuff with magic and that sexy bow.

    Sackboy

I've never really gotten into Little Big Planet much, though this looks like this will be fun. A lot of co-op gameplay which will be great if anyone else ends up getting this though I wonder if we're getting an editor. Graphics yaaaaasssss.

    Returnal & Deathloop

Seriously? Two games with the same time loop mechanic? I'll pass on them.

    Stray

    RIP Humans =(

I'll play cat simulator though. I'd love to know a lot more about it.

    Ratchet & Clank

Was never big on the series but there is no way I'm ignoring this one. The action looks like a ton of fun though it was a little painful to watch the gameplay since it is so obviously on a console with the slow turning LUL. Excellent use of the ray-tracing as far as I can tell!

    Spiderman Miles Morales

I still haven't played Spider Man on PS4... yet I own it much like I own Horizon Zero Dawn >.>

Should be dope af! REALLY want to see more of the game.

    Gran Turismo 7

The game clearly looks better than Forza Horizons 4 with the car interiors, tracks, and of course the sexy beasts the cars themselves, though I don't think I can get into GT again. After playing sim racing in virtual reality,  there just isn't any desire to play super sim on the TV anymore. Forza let's me play arcade racing with as much sim as I want to add on to it, and I know GT lets you do that to a degree as well, but the game is too serious imo.

The trailer today really makes me look forward to the next Horizons on Xbox Series X and PC, so thanks Polyphony!

    Project Athia

Square Enix displays, you're already going crazy in your mind wondering what tricks they have up their sleeve today. No signs of a release date means this is at least a couple of years out but daaaaamn that dragon looks INSANE.

It sucks that we didn't get more of a look of a lot of these games but at the same time, that wasn't really what today was about. There's some really cool stuff to look forward to though so that's awesome! I'm really curious to see what the launch lineup is going to look like since that still seems to be in the air, as it the price of the console. I'm hoping its a $100 discount for no disk drive so they can get pumping out those units to get people onto new hardware asap and studios can start to use these consoles as a solid baseline that will only further improve what we have available on PC.

I'll always be a PC person at heart, but damn the PS5 is ballin'! These graphics are just so incredible and honestly, that's the summary of this post. I just really wanted to be able to link these trailers since I think they're the highlights.

  • I Miss My X - Card Design Competition Discussion Thread

I swear this is the last time I'll post another version of my cards on this thread but here are my new versions:

For the Violet Spellshielder I figured it would be better if it worked as a Battlecry from the last turn, that way you wouldn't have to incorporate playing the Spellshielder into the turn you deal excess damage. The Crimson Spellzerker and the Desert Plaguebringer both provide a more interesting payoff than Armor, so I think they might be more interesting designs.

The design is cool but I don't really see what makes it better than the last generation in that mind-blowing way they're promoting it. Of the games I liked Project Athia the most. I'm curious about the price and if there will be a VR set right from the start...

  • How do we all feel about Captain Eudora?

Is this kitty a misunderstood real threat or just a worse AFK? I pick her every time because fun is usually more important than climbing to me (i play in low 7000s doing that). 2 of the 6 times I got her I got a top 4 and two of the times I got beat down 8th place due to bad golden draw.

great hero and I’m glad she is here but she is clickbait incarnate. If you do not roll something good rip. You have to. Unless you are hitting everything you need and are spending the gold like unneeded rerolls chances are you need that golden Rover to catch up!

  • Anyone else hyped about the ps5 presentation happening in a few minutes?

As a PC gamer it doesn't excite me too much (I am not saying "PC master race" or something just that I never had a console), I guess it means more games are gonna come out with better quality when they are multiplatform, which is nice.

or who knows maybe one day I will buy a console, but as of now.. it's not for PC, so not much hype for me.

  • 7 Magic the Gathering Cards Banned From Play Due to Racial Depictions

    Quote From Demonxz95
    Quote From DoubleSummon

crusade? jihad? why? guess the creativity dies at some point while making cards for 20 years.

And yet you didn't notice that both of those cards use the really old borders that they haven't used since 2003.

Don't play M:TG, but censorship is something I wanted to address guess that's where the -13 downvotes came from XD yeah I guess those were times companies were less afraid to use some terms or some art..

So they had a card idea and just gone up with it without thinking "wait this isn't politically correct, is it?"

What I am saying is that probably at some point during the 30+ years M:TG is around they had a shortage of creativity in card names or had not defined their universe well enough (Again I am quite puzzled what is the universe(?) is there any lore behind M:TG?).

    Sorry for my ignorance..

  • Gwent

The Gwent arenas are awesome. You guys should try them. You usually get enough rewards to keep playing them, especially when you happen to complete some achievements.

  • 7 Magic the Gathering Cards Banned From Play Due to Racial Depictions

Actually they have made a lot of effort in the art to make the actual skin tones of humanoids not tied to the color of mana.  They started including a lot more people of color in white and less dark skin tones in black.  This was a response to years of people pointing out that all the good characters were white (in skin tone, not just thematically).

  • Statistically, How Are All The New Pirate Friends in Hearthstone's Battlegrounds Doing So Far?

I know this is about the heros, but I had a pretty good run with Illidan and pirate minions.  Place the pirates with deathrattle to summon another pirate that attacks immediately on the wings, arcane cannons next to those if you can.  Buffs to pirates and Southsea Captains are key.  Also had 6 triples and the guy who buffs 2/2 (4/4) each turn for every friendly golden.

  • All of Magic the Gathering's Core 2021 Spoilers For June 10, 2020

Weird, all those people who are so concerned with banning 30 year old cards for racism aren't interested in discussing new cards...

On topic...I'm liking the theme of Beefy Boi Garruk.  Probably too slow for competition but it'll be fun to toy around with.

I love that mutt art.  Adorable.  I like that a new white theme seems to be "Look at these good boys!  Their such good boys!"

I love the way the art and thematic mechanics of the card go together in Conspicious Snoop.

    I'm hyped :)

  • 7 Magic the Gathering Cards Banned From Play Due to Racial Depictions

doesn't cleanse make sense? white color in MTG is all about priests and being holly and knights, while black is all about evil demonic etc because of its connotation with the darkness of the night. so you are cleaning, cleansing, purifying the darkness. wheres the link to racial stuff? theres none. its about light and dark, evil and good,  its a classic age old battle.

Update 9 days later: " So we looked at things they way they are, and listened, like REALLY listened to the community and decided to make changes to the last few updates to make sure to save the gaming experience.  But don't worry, we totally did enough R&D to make sure this is the last update for a while."

I think that Captain Eudora power level is similar to hooktusk, maybe both are tier 2 :D

  • 7 Magic the Gathering Cards Banned From Play Due to Racial Depictions

So barely racist is good enough for you?  And yes they did.  I know your school glanced it over but look up the Redemption movement in American history.  The movement that laid the groundwork for the KKK and other racist groups to seize power.  "Cleansing the Black Scourge" is literally a rallying cry of the times.

And don't tell me a hooded figure in a card called 'Invoke Prejudice' isn't exactly what it's meant to be.  These cards aren't randomly assigned art, this wasn't a mistake.

  • 7 Magic the Gathering Cards Banned From Play Due to Racial Depictions

Historic connotation of cleansing in the South.  The 'Redemption' movement in the American South was a Reconstruction era ideal to remove Black voices and rights so that the white people could take their 'rightful and ordained place' on the top.  There was a large push to 'cleanse' the politics and policies, IE remove all Black representation and eliminate (Lynching) Black leaders.  Although many have forgotten this movement (note taught it schools like it should be) it's effects remain throughout America and the Black community still knows and shares the stories of being 'Cleansed' and the South being 'Redeemed'.

  • 7 Magic the Gathering Cards Banned From Play Due to Racial Depictions

It's not about whether the cards are good or bad, it's about the principle. This was nothing but a PR stunt done only for opportunistic reasons, not out of the goodness of their hearts. And all of these except Invoke Prejudice are barely racist. Just unfortunate combinations of names, text and/or art. No one ever thought Cleanse meant kill black people for example, it obviously refers to one of the colors of the game.

  • 7 Magic the Gathering Cards Banned From Play Due to Racial Depictions

It's easy to say when you're skin tone isn't the color constantly associated with evil.

Only way to game the random order who goes first is to have one less minion than your opponent (assuming you are both going for full board). Whoever has more minions is guaranteed to go first. This can be helpful, if you can position your deathrattles around your taunt so they get cleaved or you want to guarantee your taunt is hit first for whatever reason etc.

This was a strategy with Splitting Image from The Great Akazamzarak.

  • 7 Magic the Gathering Cards Banned From Play Due to Racial Depictions

Oh for God's sake, it's not censoring.  It was a representation of their companies products and they decided they didn't want it to be.  By your definition painting over swastikas in a bathroom stall is censorship and wrong.
