Spoiler alert it mostly has to do with her kit and the lack of substantial benefits for hand buffing right now.
Mana 1: a 2/1 that can have life steal...like okay but I'd rather play a 2/1 that either puts a chime in my deck or adds hallow power. Hell even omen hawk is a better Kayle card then Kayle's card.
Mana 3: you can have a big elusive dude in a game full of possible big elusive buff targets.
Mana 4: literally a better card in a dragon deck
Mana 5: we will get into this in a second but even if you purifying flame mihira you need to hit a chime on her too. You know what else has elusive and life steal? Sparklefly
Mana 7: not even dignifying with a response.
So okay Kayle's followers suck big dick, but kayle is good, how about her spells.
She has purifying flame...and a invulnerability champ spell...and that's it.
So she literally has less viable cards in her "kit" then a runeterra champion now that's not the end of the world you don't need to play her kit LOR has a massive card pool.
It just seems like a lot of work to run her right now, when there are better options. Specifically if you want a stat stick deck Jax Orn just got buffed and that decks is A easier to build B easier to pilot C less fragile and D more consistent.
Poor kayle I feel like Fox Mulder from the X-Files right now, I want to believe but I can't yet.
Its likely to be shit, but its definitely an attrition control buster card. One card, and all those stall games goes to bust unless they can transform one of these dudes.
Unfortunately, the meta being what it is, I anticipate that this card will largely be a combo card of sorts, rather than actually included as a stall buster. That this card can work with From De Other Side is funny though unrealistic. You can theoretically also do it with Front Lines or Proving Grounds.
Fortunately, nearly all combo related to this card will likely require this to first die, not easily accomplished in standard. And its a 6 mana card as well that does nothing. But for potential alone, this card is certainly worth consideration.
There's some merit to this card. Playing 3 spells isn't all that hard for frost DK and the gameplan is to stall while hitting face. This card allows that.
Might of Menethil never took off largely because its too expensive, and require corpses, meaning its always detracting from your gameplan, needs to be activated, while being clunky for a stall card. This one is one mana cheaper, establishes a body with a paltry requirement.
I can see this being played in some capacity, but its not a meta busting card. More like a card that suits certain metas.
There's potential here for a deathrattle deck, because this card is essentially a deathrattle trigger that also puts tempo on board.
The only problem is obviously the fact that its 3 mana, and takes up a board slot, which to most decks that want to play this might not be able to afford giving up. And of course, you'll need to sack one of your own stuff to get that 4/5 minion.
I think its mostly going to be played as a deathrattle trigger, because unless eggs are back on the menu its unlikely to ever work as a purely tempo card.
Thanks for the compliment, that means a lot. Though my narrative may not be so good, I'm always trying my best to point out the core of whatever deck I make ^_^
Not really that good, considering that its a colossal.
Basically its 7 mana kill two minions and leave a 6/6. Well, other colossals tend to do that as well, and often enough do more. Crabatoa is the closest resemblance, and the comparison is not in this card's favor.
But what really kills this card is its dual rune requirement. Just can't see anyone dropping Frostwyrm's Fury or Vampiric Blood just to play this card.
Unless team5 pushes these cards hard, like a straight out a BBF card that dominates we'll be unlikely to see this card be played legitimately.
Not a fan of the rune system, and this dual-rune idea will be bound for failure, unless team5 pushes it hard.
The main problem with the rune system is that it simply does not allow for flexibility when choosing cards. The current frost, unholy and blood archetypes in the meta basically builds itself, I think its 90% similar to the one built by team5. So they designs these very powerful 3-rune cards, why wouldn't you just play a 3 rune deck with a really powerful card, instead of mixing and getting less powerful results.
And I fear its impact on the meta. All three rune decks are so extreme in their identity that it kinda warps the meta slightly. Blood decks will always be an auto win vs aggro, etc. And all this design fun team5 must be having also has unintended effects; discovering cards in DK is a lot stronger than in other classes because you can easily end up with powerful cards your deck should theoretically be unable to play. Not to mention the number of times I see Vampiric Blood being played out of discovers.
It doesn't help that Frost Queen Sindragosa is so painfully average, kinda like a more expensive Crabatoa, but with no face damage potential. Now, with the dual-rune requirement we can more or less be sure it'll never see play outside of discovers because imagine building a deck that doesn't play Frostwyrm's Fury or Vampiric Blood
The riders are cool. More likely to be played simply for the extra cards in the deck. Its hard to see this work though, because of the requirements, and susceptibility to silence. Maybe in druid? Because each of those riders do something and druid ramps, draws like the wind anyway.
Would be decent if it wasn't for the strange Rune combination.
Neither Frost nor Blood can really justify cutting their triple payoffs just to run this scuffed Carbatoa and Rainbow DK isn't really that good, so I'm not sure this will make a difference.
Might be good, but might also be unnecessary. Might of Menethil never really took off despite doing the same thing (while also pushing more face damage), but this is perhaps easier to accomplish than gaining 3 corpses in Frost DK.
However, we've seen this triple spell Nagas and how difficult they can be to juice efficiently, so who knows if this is good enough.
That is extremely confusing, doubly-so because it contradicts how webpages usually work, including this one (as previous reveals had links to secondary pages even though edited culmulative pages like this one existed). You'd be better off changing the artwork and font to suggest that the second entry isn't an article at all, but a reminder of the previous article.
Edit: Also, the primary -- okay, the actual article -- doesn't have a direct link to the comments section on it.
I understand that this is a busy time btw and that y'all are working hard, but this implementation has some issues.
we'll be cross-linking to it on the main page each time there are new cards
There isn't a unique article created for the rivendare card reveal. I gave the feed item a title that says something about new cards, but the destination was intentionally to the guide.
I feel like Zeliek, Conquestrider should be the actual card you can put in your deck, as he's clearly based on the First Horseman, which rides the white horse of victory.
Sorry for being a huge Bible nerd haha (I'm not even religious, I'm just really into mythology)
Basically just a worse version of Quest Priest but for everyone.
Think about it, you not only have to play this, have it die, then find all the other Horsemen and also have them die as well, while they cost 6-mana and are vulnerable to transform effects.
Best case scenario is you save Kor'thazz for last so you aren't vulnerable to a final silence, and that just seems like a tall order.
Just for reference, DK Uther Paladin wasn't nearly as difficult to pull off.
The only comparable thing would be [Hearthstone Card (Rin, the Dark Disciple) Not Found], a card that actually did see play and won games, but only because the meta at the time was incredibly slow and late-game driven and because Warlock had an absolutely nutty set to play off that gave them insane defense and longevity.
If you still believe in this, just think about how people were considering the new Bonelord guy as a possibility for some sick OTKs and we haven't seen him being used once ever since...and he just required you to kill him once. THESE GUYS NEED IT 4 TIMES.
In other words, unless there's some insane payoff for killing your own high-cost stuff (like a 1-mana Shadowflame) you're not gonna be able to pull this off in any consistent way.
Also there's probably gonna be an achivement requiring you to do this like 10 times....
You're visiting our guide for the mini-set. This is what will get updated throughout the reveal period and we'll be cross-linking to it on the main page each time there are new cards. Gives everyone the information they need and it's easier for us to update since it's pretty much just Blizzard doing reveals - outside of the one PCGamer one.
I like the idea of giving DK call-backs to the rest of the year instead of just giving them even more basic class identity stuff.
I also like the idea of "polychrome" cards that mix different runes, but I fear they will just end up as a failure. Right now Sindragosa is basically unplayable. You cannot build a functional deck around mixing Frost and Blood. Frost wants to just burn you down while stalling, but without Frostwyrm's Fury you can't do that. Blood just wants to outlast you, but without Vampiric Blood that doesn'T seem too great either....so essentially you're just mutilating two archetypes in order to play a gimped Crabatoa.
Also more Freeze for Frost DK, for some reason that was needed. I'm not even sure if it's better than Might of Menethil (which doesn't see play, just saying)
Also recycling Battlegrounds Art for Rivendare, which is weird.

Unlike most other locations, this requires an additional mana cost after playing it, as you need a target to transform.
That being said, Unholy shouldn't struggle with that so this might be really good, even if 3-mana is a steep cost for a tempo deck.
Perhaps Blood could use it as well as an early tool to contest the board
