This was a great read. These lore articles really clarify these aspects of the WoW and Hearthstone lore that I only previously understood in a more broken sense, not as cohesively as I do now.
Why are all of the neutral epics weird meme cards?
It is a little frustrating how this card was almost an amazing card. If it made each player draw a minion, then you could play it in a big minion deck, or just in a deck that wants to tutor specific minions. This card could have been an interesting deck building card, but instead it will just be disappointing to open.
Anti aggro tool. You always play this against rogues and shamans and it's better than "look LOOK" new deathwing for the price of 4 mana and the rogue cant play their shitty 4 drop that generates lackeys anymore it's a win win, you guys are definitely sleeping on this guy.
A lot of comparisons to doomsayer but I think it's a good card on it's own merit, shuts down lackey shit early and keeps it that way, the new mage dragon soul also gets recked by this just by being on the board, you guys may see a doomsayer but I see a barron geddon that goes off at the start of your turn rather than the end of it. Constantly clearing the board. This is what control needed against lackey shit. Its amazing.
Agreed. It's why I always hated Spellslinger and similar cards. Cards like these will literally lose you the game some non-trivial amount of time, even when they fit your deck's strategy.
It is sort of like a mini-Doomsayer. When played at the right time, it can be quite powerful. But I just feel like 5 damage is just too little. In order for this to trigger, your opponent will have to be unable to kill a 5 health minion, which means that you probably won't be killing anything big.
The best way to use this card is to drop it on an empty board to prevent your opponent from playing anything for a turn. But really, this is just a smaller Doomsayer, I don't think this card will ever be used except by people who don't have doomsayer and can't find any better replacement.
It's kinda funny, we are getting a lot of power-creep in this expansion, and now we have this reverse power-creep card.
Ever felt the need to also have a decent body after that Flamestrike? Now you can! For 9 mana! Clear board, use Ray of Frost to freeze that big surviving minion and be ready for action with a 6-6. What I like about this quest is that the impending doom of a free 6-6 is a continuous threat. Opponent must take it into consideration.
And its a useful 1-mana play which Mage is a bit lacking. So it can be included to mulligan for and hopefully play it at turn 1. Or keep it for a nice combo with a big spell. However, there are so much powerful cards screaming for inclusion in your deck that I am sure this one will not be an auto-include. Also wondering about the interaction with Khadgar: if you have him in play will it summon two minions? Or not since its not a "card" anymore but a "sidequest".
Only reason to play this is for the invoke value, but I fear the other text will likely be irrelevant to situation. Although rogue can make use of these cheap spells to cycle.
Really like the potential of this card as it's essentially will usually be played for 3 mana. This amount of draw with rogue can be dangerous though—but we'll have to see what kind of deck comes up that has to deal with cycling through your deck.
Oh yeah! I like thief rogue so I will like this card. Since class cards are generally better this is likely to yield quite the consistent result to help with thief rogue. 1 mana also opens up for cycling opportunities
I can do a double-check for you, but last I checked, the Hearthstone art book for Year of the Kraken specifically said that the character is a blue dragon in disguise.

This won't likely be in a serious competitive deck, but it will be a lot of fun in a big deck.
