There are stuff that I hate like damage being blocked after a unit is destroyed by Active abilities & spells. Example is Anivia's active spell destroying 1/2 health units but since they were blocking my attackers suddenly their Force Ghosts can shit on me, that's bullshit!!!!!!!!!!

I actually really like that mechanic. Sure if you're the attacker you'd prefer your attacks going to the nexus instead of doing nothing, but if this were the case, abilities and spells that can damage blockers before the attack phase would be really broken, because it would give way too much control to the attacking player who already gets to act first. Instead you can still choose to prevent your attackers from taking damage from their blockers with effects like this, which is still a very viable tactic but not immediately game-winning.

Full damage going to Nexus after units die can be abusive, but having Force ghosts full block is also bad. Maybe a solution would be attackers doing half damage or even a third damage and the justification can be the corpse of the dead unit being in the way thus making the attacker not get all of their hit in.

I think the idea is that the minion is already being blocked, so no matter what happens to the blocker, it has already been confirmed that the attacker has been blocked.

Imagine if I am in the process of swinging my sword at a guy, and then he suddenly disappears, I won't stop mid-swing then move over and hit the other guy, my sword will just fly through the air and hit nothing. It is not that the unit is disappearing then blocking your unit, it is that he is blocking your unit then disappearing.

That's a good comparison. I was thinking more of "I'm preparing my attack on you guy 1... my ally takes out guy 1... fine I'll move to attacking the boss."

I guess I'm still not used to the board being divided into a battlefield plus a combat zone at the same time.

I was expecting a guide for Hearthstone players, and you didn't fail. Thank you very much!

I hope we get the same experience playing LoR on mobile as HS.

The best part is that I don't even need to change my favourite cards website when playing it :D

Some sort of lower tier would definitely be useful, something so that relegated Grandmasters don't just drop into a whole lot of nothingness. It would also serve as a tier where more players that perform well at Masters Tour could be invited into, and from where they could get promoted to GM. You could let the players stream the games themselves as the official channel has a lot of stuff during GM weekends.

Eddie was balling out! He read DeadDraw like a children's book. Really impressed by his play.

Best advice: find a deck you enjoy playing and craft a card that fits in it, but that's also pretty general use.

Nothing in writing somewhere as far as you know? I always like reading info rather than watching, call me old fashioned hehe ;-)

Yeah I understand the general advice, but i have no clue about possible decks/archetypes etc yet...

  • Hearthstone vs. LoR

    Quote From NudeWookie

I don't necessarily think that LoR will overwhelm Hearthstone. But rather, that it will appeal to a specific subset of Hearthstone players. LoR feels a lot like classic Hearthstone, decision-making and interaction were king in it originally. Introducing too many powerful cards has pushed HS to ridiculous levels. Those playing the game for the competitive side and decision-making (like myself) have begun to feel like every game is won or lost on RNG. God curves, lucky draws, created by, etc. Add to that the fact that some matchups are completely unwinnable. It makes it hard to keep grinding HS.

Hearthstone's staying power for me has been the lack of another game which is relatively easy to begin playing and hard to master. LoR felt learnable to a competitive level in the brief period of me playing it, with tons more to do and learn in the future. It's barrier to entry is nonexistent, since there is no paywall. The game is easy to watch and follow on Twitch. It has all the makings of a potential replacement for me.

Well, I agree I think hs lately has been a lot about those broken cards in general giant + CC, desert hare + evolve, having the right board clear at the right time the god curve of warrior in the early game..

Well in LoR I had a few really good curves as well, curving draven into jinx in a discard deck is also kind of unstoppable..

but you know what is probably the best mechanic to counter the bad curve in LoR? the spell mana, I think that it just makes decks that skip turn 1 and maybe 2 have a chance in the game they would otherwise lose hard that mechanic is amazing, at first I wasn't sure why they did that but the more I played I realized that's the "perfect curve vs high cost hand opponent scenario" answer or LoR which is quite great, it's also a skill experecion that will stay forever in the game of "do I save my mana now for later?".

Now we say that other DCCGs didn't succeed as well as HS but I am sure there are also plenty of people who play ShadowVerse, Gwent, Eternal.. (not artifact though XD https://steamcharts.com/app/583950 - RIP artifact).

LoR just have a lot of stuff HS players were asking for years that are just not game mechanics such as "react on enemy turns". "fix early curves", "lower rng", "monthly balance patches", so people who dislike HS for those reason will go there.

but casual players/heavely invested players will probably stay.. or people will play both..I hope I will be of those who will quit hs.. since let's be honest the game is not gonna Evolve in any way

  • 30 Legendary Deck

I would add Sir finley just so that you can have more cheap guys, and I would also add lorewalker cho because the deck doesn't have any spells.

I would take out zentimo, because there are no spell to use with him and he has horrible stats, and gormok the impaler because he seems hard to set up and you have other 4 drops.

Also, emperor thaurissan can probably fit into the deck somwhere.

  • Which Mytic?

I have gotten a Mytic wild card, which card would be a good card to use this on? Haven't really figures my playstyle yet, but thought the 8 mana orange/blue mytic that gives all minions +2/+2 and overrun sounds good.

    What would be your suggestions.

I got into the early access over the past week, and since blizzards actions recently i think i am going to be switching games to runeterra, that game is imo a nearly perfect card game with all gameplay mechanics, i can't remember having this much fun playing a card game since when i first started hearthstone back in early beta

That's the ONE reason to NOT switch to Runeterra.

  • Masters Tour Bucharest - Decklists, Results & Recap

I like the idea of the League system, where you can weekly root for and follow your favorite players and consistently watch high-level play. I do think that the bottom end of how the GM system works needs some work. IMO, they may be better served by having 2 spots relegated in each regional division instead of 1 each season.  This increases the tension/stakes and allows the possibility for more players outside of GM to break through.  Additionally, similar to Premier League soccer, a lower tier would be cool to relegate from and to.  They don't have to stream those games live on twitch, just maybe have almost like a recap show of the highlight moments for the weekend.

I actually, like the idea of the after show for the GM coverage in general, a weekly highlight type show similar to what you might see on ESPN or NFL network that after each weekend gives a casual fan an overview of how the weekend played out with results, highlights, commentary, on past and future matches, etc and maybe ends with a replay of the best series over the weekend?  This would be good as oppose to watching for hours on end to catch all of the action (unless that's your thing, obviously you are free to do that.).

I also, like the idea of alternating formats between weeks.  Conquest, Last-Hero-Standing, and even Specialist (i know, boring).  You are trying to find the best HS players, so giving them different scenarios that change is a good test of that rather than experimenting for 3-ish weeks, then netdecking the rest of the way with very few changes to the decklists.

Just putting some thoughts out there.

  • Standard Meta Report #9 - October 14, 2019 - October 20, 2019

I agree, having this info in a well written form is always very digestible. I don't have so much time to keep up with the meta, so these posts are always the highlight of my week if I want to play ranked, as you get multiple good deck ideas per class as well.

Keep up the good work, targus! :D

It's popular to rip Hearthstone right now (and understandably so), but this was an incredible tournament. Great players throughout the Top 8. GM spots on the line. Hakkar in multiple decks. A completely deserving winner.

    Just awesome.

I was like that too until i played the game. Its a lot more snappy and intuitive. Plus its fast if u have auto pass enabled.

Just fucking rotate Mind Control Tech. Literally one of the most punishing cards ever printed. No one will ever miss that card. Fuck that.

So you can mindless flood the board, when you are ahead? Good idea...not.

Let's be honest, if you face swarm decks you play removals and not MCT. If you go back with your mind to January 2019, when ZooLock, Midrange Hunter, Odd Paladin and Odd Rogue were rampant, there wasn't a single deck using that card (maybe some weird Odd Warrior lists run one copy of it, but that's all): no, you preferred to use Dragonmaw Scorcher, Primordial Drake, Psychic Scream, Volcano, Reckless Flurry, Spirit Lash and such.

There's a reason that little shit got banned from arena months ago: having 4 minions on board is not flooding, is spreading and actually fighting for the control of it.

  • A Guide to Legends of Runeterra for Hearthstone Players

    Easy.

LoR was online for a week and its not the final version and the majority loved it. Artifact took less than a week after release for ppl to state its main issues like pay wall economy of cards and over complicated and bored drawnout gameplay which eventually dictated it's doom.  Hell ppl before the release where already mentioning this issues and saying the game was dead on arrival. Spot on.

Theres none of that for LoR. Now will it take HS spot? Nope for a variety of reasons being customer loyalty the main one. HS exist for 6 years plus theres the love for the WoW connection and the company Blizzard.

Having said this i predict that LoR will draw out ppl from HS Eternal Shadow verse and Magic. It will eventually take the spot of Magic but it will never replace it cause the player base that likes it wont switch to a dumbed down version tho the state of the meta and the cluttered UI of MtG Arena is on an all time low.

If LoR remains as good as it was this week i will switch from HS to LoR and many will too but like i said it wont be the king in terms of player base but i wouldn't be surprised if it is a huge hit and probably the first successful card game in the west after HS. I dont count MtG cause its a paper game conversion

  • A Guide to Legends of Runeterra for Hearthstone Players

They kinda dropped the whole Heroes of Warcraft didnt they?

You can play both card games but i believe that in the end ppl will only play one hence the problem with pur college here.

I was only able to play LoR for a little bit but damn the impression was so heavy on me. I really dig it plus the rounds arent as long as i thought they would be specially with the auto pass enabled

  • A Guide to Legends of Runeterra for Hearthstone Players

Great write up and introduction to the game!  Outof.cards is providing an excellent resource for all of us that have not yet had the opportunity to play, and the reviews of the preview have been pretty much all positive!  Hopefully it won't change elements before full launch...

This is the first DCCG that has looked as interesting since I started Hearthstone (and it comes at a very opportune time).  HS appealed to me because it was free-to-play, has a great fun design and is easy to play but difficult to master.  It looks like those elements are present in Legends of Runeterra, plus the ability to create a specific deck with less RNG really calls to me...

    That being said...

While I optimistically hope to receive a key for November 14th, I will temper my enthusiasm (and I would recommend everyone do the same) with memories of other titles that have looked phenomenal before launch to fall flat when released.  The preview patch helps negate some of those concerns (i.e. we are actually seeing real-time play, not being shown it), but developers often have wonderful, groundbreaking ideas that, for some reason or another, never make it into the game... at least, not in the way we thought.  It's great to be excited and looking forward to a game's launch, but it's kind of like declaring Jared Goff the next Tom Brady (for those that watch football).... slow down a bit, and let's wait and see.

I hope it's incredible and changes the landscape of DCCGs, but until LoR releases, I will just remain hopeful and not invested.
