With the death of aggro we notice some pretty clear play patterns emerging in LOR:
1. the over abundance of Ionia representing something like 75% of top tier decks
2. Play patterns that once again shy away from actually accomplishing anything
For me this is personally problematic because nobody wants to watch someone play without ever committing anything to board
Even me personally I sleep pretty hard right now at how people are playing without ever actually doing anything
Like anybody can just stall and open swing, like is that the game now?
Without the pressure of burn or actual wincons stall is all there is, and to be honest is bores me to tears
When is the last time you saw someone flip a champ that wasn't just a vague cycle tool?
Wake up LOR viewership's are declining, so is the player base, because yeah things are pretty glacial right now, and the worst part is people think that makes them good at the game? Legends of testing patience, this is why you don't ask your pro players to build out your patches for you it's game breaking.
Do equipment decks want this type of aggressively-statted Elusive unit? You'd think yes because it's a good unit to buff with equipment, but the problem is that most collectible equipment cards (the ones you can directly slot into your deck) are bad, only Improvised equipment is good and getting those onto this unit would be a big hassle. Still, never underestimate the power of the Elusive keyword. Rating: 3 stars
Pretty good value in an equipment deck, despite the inherent randomness. Do Kayn and Varus want to play for that value though? I think not, but we'll see. Rating: 3 stars
Quick Attack + Overwhelm is very scary with high power values, but Varus seems fairly tame at level 1 and his level-up condition doesn't appear to be very easy to fulfill, you can only have 3 copies of Momentous Choice in your deck. Could be decent with good support. Rating: 3 stars
Equipment decks kind of bombed with the first Darkin Saga expansion, they were only competitive when paired up with Concurrent Timelines shenanigans. If we get viable equipment decks now and you can combine this with Heedless Resurrection, that'll be a crazy strong champion protection package. Rating: 4 stars
Outside equipment decks, this is a vanilla 5|5 for 5 mana, which is unplayable. Viable equipment decks right now rely on Concurrent Timelines, which does not play well with this card. Sure, if you have a board full of powerful equipped units, giving them all Overwhelm with this guy could be pretty good... but that requires a LOT of setup, it will realistically almost never happen, and he doesn't buff himself. The Winding Light doesn't see a lot of play after it got nerfed, and this guy is a lot worse than that. Rating: 1 star
On equipment-heavy decks, this is like a Harsh Winds that costs 1 less mana but you can't choose its targets. Sounds like it could be alright... if you wanted to bring Harsh Winds on an equipment deck. Which you don't. Rating: 1 Star
I reached level 300 today, my last stop before crossing the finish line of the Rewards Track, which will take me three more weeks.
Previously, I paused my personal Demon Hunter 1500 wins milestone quest (226 wins left) to complete all the new Maw and Disorder XP achievements which are 98% done. Once again, Team 5 introduced a stupid achievement which requires you to win with a specific mediocre card: Motion Denied. It is not quite as bad as the Oh My Yogg! related achievement in the past though. Actually, it should have been completed already, but (unfortunately for me) my opponents decide to concede instead of triggering the Hunter secret.
I have collected all the new mercenaries and completed their tasks netting me 42 packs waiting to get opened right after the next big patch hits. I have to say it was quite a boring grind until the very end and I am no longer interested in maxing out all the new characters since most of the bounties can be completed with the usual Fire comp anyways. Another reason is the upcoming excess coin exchange feature.
How is your progress so far?
EDIT: Yeah! Finally completed the Held In Contempt achievement. It required a lot of attempts and very specific matchups to even remotely have a chance to setup and potentially trigger the progress. My thanks goes to one Questline Priest and two other Miracle Rogue opponents 😇
Ow, that is a shame. For whatever reason it seems like they are purposefully dodging this topic and choosing to remain silent. It doesn't help there isn't anyone directly from the Mercenaries team who would be active on social media.
Unfortunately it looks like the Mini Set has made Wild worse again after the format had finally overcome the bullshitty Questline era. Nobody asked for a Secret Mage comeback, Mill Druid is just plain stupid and The Jailer should be straight out banned imo. Add all this to the ongoing Big Priest issue and you get an unhealthy cocktail of uninteractive stuff that's just no fun to play against. I'm not really sure how to solve this situation either other than banning The Jailer and nerfing Neptulon but I'm sure someone will come up with a good idea.

Kinda cool how they implemented the "charging" mechanic for Varus :)
