And that part is you people!!! :) :) :) Thanks for everything and let's have some fun talking about video games as always!!! :D :D :D

  • Does standard's small card pool do more harm than good?

There's certainly a trade-off. I wouldn't say the smaller card pool is inherently a downside, nor would I be able to suggest something that would fix it.

Wild's upsides are being able to make more consistent, powerful decks with the larger card pool along with mitigating how powerful some random effects are by the sheer variance of them. You'll always be able to play the majority of decks that you've played in the past here, though they may not be as powerful as they once were. On the downside, the format itself can be off-puttingly high-powered, has a daunting barrier-to-entry for new players and, while random effects can be less powerful, they are also inherently more random, which is not a good thing in many people's eyes.

Standard, on the other hand, can basically flip these. The smaller rotating card pool means that it's easier for players to get into, and isn't as powerful a format as Wild. Random effects having less options makes them easier to play around - whether or not you are able to, of course, is another question. Rotation can also be seen as a positive, since it guarantees a refresh of the options available. Negatives include less consistent decks, due to both the swingy nature of some random effects and the lack of options sometimes, and how wildly some random effects can vary due to a lack of options.

I don't think either format is inherently better - each format has cards that will impact it more than the other, and it's really just up to the individual what they prefer in a game. Do you want consistency and a wide variety of options at the expense of sheer madness occasionally? Pick Wild. Want something tamer that has (on average) more variance set to set? Pick Standard.

  • Uldum Hunter Card Reveal - Desert Spear

  • Uldum Shaman Card Reveal - Splitting Axe

I was thinking I'd try it in even Shaman.  Plenty of totem generation, plus Totem Golem.  Should make it easier to play Thing from Below early.

  • Is MtG:A F2P?

MTG is fine as F2P. I was F2P for 2 months with Mono Red and Mono Black deck. I then made a clear break from HS (no more real money for it.) I was able to climb to Plat with Mono Red (Experimental Frenzy is broken.)

I was able to craft some fun experimental decks from free cards and packs. Now i spend about $200 which has given me enough to craft 4 competitive decks with either drafts or pack purchase. The more you learn how to play magic the better rewards you will get. I have done about 35 drafts now and about 14 of them have generated profits and the rests either break even or return me about 50% of my investment.

Its true you will always lack rare cards above everything else. I also didnt bother to craft anything that would rotate next expansion. Magic is a better place to spend time and resources. HS is a fun game but it can be so tilting due to RNG. Just loosing a game based on the power level of a Death Knight or getting Conjure Giant because you didnt have removal on turn 4. (I have a full collection on HS, however moving forward i will only collect golds and packs for cards.)

Also I have spend $200 on a game that I have played for about 10 hrs a week for about 3 months now. That is less than a nice dinner or beer a day.

  • Does standard's small card pool do more harm than good?

I'm a wild main, but frequently watch various favorite streamers play in wild, watch tournaments, and hear about other people's experiences. While keeping cards around for *only* 2 years can be good to end the burnout of things like DKs, Tunnel Trogg, Defile, Reno, Aluneth and the like over the years it does make it so that the pool of cards is kept comparatively small, and in that small card pool random effects become less random with mechanics like discover or CCing a minion that barely has any minions in that mana slot.

For example, pretty much every standard player is familiar with the meme of warriors discovering their 7th Omega Devastator or 5th Dyn-o-Matic. Other players have listed mages' ability to very consistently spawn big taunts with almost every CC. Even going back further in the life of standard HS when Ice Block was not HoFed yet it was very common for mages to discover a 'random' 3rd or even 4th Ice Block because again the standard spell pool was so small.

So back to the title, do you feel standard's card pool size does it more harm than good? If you feel it does harm to the format how would you change it?

  • What Inspires You To Build A Deck?

    Quote From Chimera

Questions to those who enjoy building decks in Hearthstone:

    • What sort of things lead you to construct the decks that you do?
    • What are some common strategies and combinations that you really enjoy playing and iterating on?
    • In the past, which mechanics or interactions really caught your attention and made you want to try them yourself?
    • Do you prefer building new lists from the ground up, or iterating on existing archetypes?
    • Has the meta ever influenced you to try building something new to counter it?
    • When you get an idea, does it typically involve a particular strategy, or do you focus on a card you like to build around?
    • Do you make use of tech cards often, or just play a particular list as is?

Questions to those who avoid deck building:

    • What is it that you dislike about deck building, if anything?
    • Has anything discouraged you from trying, or lead to you giving up at building a deck?
    • What do you feel is the most intimidating or difficult part to building a viable deck?
    • Do you find it more difficult to build decks in the constructed or arena game mode?
    • What do you typically do when the weekly Tavern Brawl requires you to build a deck?
    • What sort of tools or features do you think would motivate or allow you to build decks of your own design, if any?

1: Fun facter if it's not fun I don't want to play it. I.E. Fatigue Warrior, not for me because it's so slow.

2: I always try to find a way to make Spell Damage work but realistically it never happens.

3: Summoning Stone was crazy when Firelands Portal came out.

4: I like new decks entirely, a blank slate keeps it from feeling samey.

5: I don't actively try to counter the meta simply because match-ups are random and you're not guaranteed to go against the same deck twice or even three times in a row.

6: It mainly comes from connections of what cards I remember exist. When Augmented Elekk was announced I immediately thought of Archbishop Benedictus.

7: For me, Tech cards have a hard time finding a home because again, I'm not actively countering any type of deck so they kind of fall to the wayside.

  • How much gold/dust will you have for next expansion?

Honestly, 0 gold since I've moved to a paying player I'm probably just going to buy the $80 bundle next pay check. Although I do have a bit over 8k dust that I don't know what I want to do with yet.

I think that my favorite card is going to be:

For the reason that is great tempo card. Currently Warlock is in such a strange place between Zoo and Heavy control (with out realistic tools.)

  • What Inspires You To Build A Deck?

One thing that highly motivates me to deck build are lesser known combos. For me it's much more refreshing to play decks that aren't being played by a large portion of the playerbase already and that most people can't predict will happen in most cases. Also, if I can make a couple of completely different strategies come together, even if it isn't a high win rate tier deck, you can bet I'll often try to do so.

N'Zoth is my favorite old god and was since WotOG first came out. So naturally I love putting it in plenty of decks (most often OTKs). There's just something very satisfying with dropping N'Zoth and spawning a wall of Sludge Belchers & Rotten Applebaums to stall for your big otk finish, especially in classes that generally have poor survivability (like rogue). I usually like start with the skeleton of a deck and then strip away what I'd rather see in it instead. Although, I'll occasionally make something memey and unique to me (such as my N'Zoth Deathrattle / Menagerie Warden OTK Druid).

Tech cards are typically something I play in the few control decks I use, but for the rest of my OTK/combo decks I generally only auto lose to Ice Block so I don't feel too concerned with teching against just one out of the nine classes when I could just roll with more stall/survivability.

  • Hunter Hero Power Watcher

I wonder how long it'll take for people to find this comment.

  • Dr. Boom's Scheme

Why did they make this card? It's bad so everyone hates it, but if it was good everyone would hate it because I don't want my opponent to gain 20 Armor for 2 Mana or whatever.

  • Idea for Genn and Baku Nerfs

We are not talking of decks capable of cancerizing the population (ie BP), nor of god tier decks.

Let me also point out that we are talking about two neutral cards: nerfing Baku means nerfing Odd Paladin AND Odd Rogue. Two different archetypes (token vs tempo) nerfed TOGETHER. Which is complete nonsense.

How is Even Shaman more hateful than Murloc Shaman, or Odd Rogue worse to face than Mech Hunter?

Finally, repetitiveness is a silly snowflake argument, especially in Wild.

  • Idea for Genn and Baku Nerfs

    Quote From CursedParrot

I think Genn and Baku should be mildly nerfed so that they aren't as powerful in the Wild format. I propose that instead of upgrading your Hero Power or making it cost 1 at the beginning of the game, they instead add a Spell to your hand at the start of the game if you meet their requirement (only odd cards or only even cards) that upgrades your Hero Power or makes it cost 1. Depending on how much of a nerf is needed the mana cost of the spell could be higher or lower, but I think making the Genn Spell 1-Mana and the Baku Spell 2-Mana would be fair. This would slow down the early game power of Genn and Baku decks without making them unplayable or messing with their design. What do y'all think about this potential nerf? Do you have any other ideas about how Genn and Baku could be mildly nerfed?

1: There are no possible nerfs to Genn & Baku that don't alter their "core", that being the existing deck restriction for the reward.
2: It's Wild, Big Priest used to be the issue but as of late more decks have rose to the top to compete with Big Priest for number 1. One of these being Odd Paladin, so altering Odd Paladin could put BP back on top which most players don't want.
3: (Personal opinion) They should NEVER be nerfed because I'm of the mindset that a meta is never solved and there will always be a deck that's just slightly better than top dog.
