Medivh is the first character to have a summoning ability that isn't triggered by another effect (e.g., an attack or direct damage effect) that isn't simply the character card for the summoned creature. This could have been an opportunity to give the ability a spell school, but they didn't take it.
I'm trying to figure out how Unstable Runes (Medivh equipment -- summon a 0/10 Arcane Ward with "counter the first ability used each turn") is fair. It can only be that it also cancels friendly effects, forcing you to take slow moves to avoid cancellation.
PvE is tremendously kinder to having a limited roster and/or underdeveloped mercs. There is no way that a PvE mode would get the revenue they're looking for. :-/
That's an awful look no matter which way you cut it and really gives credibility to the idea that either the mode was rushed out the door before it was ready or Blizzard just stopped giving a shit about it after the lukewarm reception it got.
I really like that the designers have increased the complexity of the mercenaries, with creative interactions with the bench that work in PvE and in PvP.
I do wish the game mode was solely focused on PvE -- we already have five other modes based on PvP; we didn't need a sixth one.
There's still only one poor Gronn (Grull) and Pandaren (Cho), so they are apparently more generous at assigning races than the other Hearthstone teams for their tribes.
I would assume they would do the same thing as with DH and make an initiate set, and give it five extra cards per expansion for the first year, so it would make far more sense to introduce a new class at the beginning of a new year. Before DH expansions had 45 neutral cards, then it was 30 for the first year, then finally 35. I wonder if it would go to 20, then 25, or if they'll start making 145 card expansions. At some point there won't be enough neutral card slots to take away for a new class, and maybe we've reached it already.
Loving every single one that's been revealed and enjoying the gimmicks they're playing around with. Also some of the mercs coming with a Battlecry effect right out the gate is neat. Can't wait to see what adjustments are coming to old mercs, either.
Why even print this thing... It's gonna mostly suck until that one in a million game, where your opponent for some reason plays this and gets lucky with it.
Any card that dictates how the game is played afterwards, like Aligment did, is a bad bad move. Players will find ways to abuse this thing eventually, if not really soon and it will be super annoying to play against.
Slow decks will have to dump cards to make room for the extra draw every turn or burn their cards. Relic DH will hate seeing this in play, because they already have lots of draw and want the draw with discount effect.
Lol, did I accidentally deleted my main comment? For reference: I was upset that they brought Rafaam back, but neither released a skin for him, nor did he become a merc (even though his silhouette was part of the Merc reveal trailer from over a year ago),
Random effects like Concurrent Timelines can be part of the game for sure. But they should NEVER be competetive. They should enable cool stuff in pve should create interesting decks... not take away the downside of etb units that they tend to be very understatted with no real tradeoff
I dont think the merc reveal is over, they hinted at 14 mercs coming out in this mini set, I think it makes sense for Rafaam to be included this patch since we got the explorers recently, I predict there will be others from Castle Nathria like Renathal, Denathrius, KaelThas, KelThuzad and maybe the Jailer. we'll see
They might be underestimating how much ppl like that character. But also expansions are locked in almost a year prior their release, so who knows what they had on their minds then.
Yeah, creating art to not anger anyone in a massive global audience is quite limiting. Even without trying to cater to a global audience, sci-fi and fantasy are in a bit of a weird spot when it comes to representation. With lots of non-human races and cultures to work with, it is very easy to address race, gender and sexuality in a way that doesn't cause much trouble since they are abstracted from humanity and the real world. But the flip side is it can't easily go beyond 'baby steps' precisely because it is abstracted from the real world.
That said, I'm ace myself (the A that often gets ingloriously dropped from the full LGBTQA+ string), so I personally quite like absence of relationships in HS. I'm pretty weary of romantic subplots ruining perfectly good (potentially) ace characters, so it's nice to have somewhere I don't have to worry about rolling my eyes at unnecessary relationships.

For lore purposes they are Half-Orcs, but for game play purposes at least Rexxar counts as a full Orc.
Maybe one day they'll implement true multi-tribe, so we can have the Lich King as an Undead Human and Hooktusk as a Troll Pirate.

Looks like Rexxar will no longer be the lone Half-Orc in the entire mode.
But it makes me curious if there really are enough Half-Orc characters they could implement into the mode to justify the tribe.
