Let's make the hearthstone community great again 😁
I am pretty new to Arena (and hardly played Magic before). I just switched over from Hearthstone (which I still play and enjoy, too). The are still so many new effects and combos I encounter and keep wondering how to deal with them.
As there is no "Classic" Set in Magic, it would be helpful to replenish the card base when a Core Set rotates out with either:
a) Give away the new Core Set for free ... [^_^] ... yes, I know ...
b) Or at least hand out a dozen free booster packs for the new core set (or somewhat similar).
Otherwise, the loss of cards with each rotation would be truly substantial. Or not?
Anyone that plays Coldlight Oracle Fatigue Rogue deserves a special place in Hell. If I'm playing anything other than a Hyper Aggro Deck and I see that sucker drop on Turn 2 followed by Shadowstep i concede instantly.
Because sitting there whilst I helplessly watch my Cards burn with every "Mrggl Mrgl Mrgl!" is not my idea of a good time.
Most classes have access to mass removal for 5-and-up mana, Brawl, mass hysteria, Hagatha's scheme, etc. That's why lategame build-a-board cards aren't nearly as scary as comboes that can pull it off earlier. Astromancer can cheat an obscene amount of mana/stats onto the board but it's fine because she costs 7 mana. Big Priest is a bit of an exception because it not only cheats mana (barnes-> resurrect), it has a seemingly endless supply of boards with mass resurrect and spellstone. If it were just one huge board a la kangor's or Zul'jin it wouldn't be nearly as much of a problem.
Honestly what bugs me about Barnes is in it's low risk factor. In contrast, early game Edwins require holding a hand that's set up specifically for him and leaves you with crap for tempo otherwise. Crazy shouldn't be do or die for the attacker but it should leave you scrambling to recover a bit.
Barnes is 4/5 worth of power at the worst of times and utterly ruins the game when you get lucky. You aren't really losing anything if he misses so he's just a free "do I win" instaroll. If he rolls well and your opponent stops it, you can often be in a BETTER position than them, especially if they had to give up a lot.
Crazy should come at a cost. You should feel good about your chances to win if you disrupt or stop it. You souldn't feel like you have the choice of gaining nothing or losing everything.
@Dakarian: posts like yours make me sad that I'm not playing HS anymore. I would've definitely tested it 1-2 years ago if I cared enough about the matchmaking or simply played a lot (because I do remember that what OP said was happening to me too).
I really wish HS will change such that I might return to it one day and actually enjoy it instead of fucking up my good mood each and every time.
No worries. I've had theories and ideas on other games that I'll never get to figure out since I can't really find a desire to play it or can't find the time.
There's too many games to play, things to do, and things to see to really be worried about a single game. Even if this game becomes enjoyable to you, you really aren't 'missing out' by not returning to it so long as what you ARE doing is fun and interesting. I've personally missed entire generations of games PC and console and I've come to terms for it, and that's without actually disliking them.
I sound angry and bothered but really I don't get a lot of places to really get emotional about something, so I'm actually enjoying the debate. If I wasn't I would've stopped reading them rather than reading and responding for 5 years running. Same with hearthstone. I'm here because I enjoy the way I play it. If I can't, I stop. I'm not going to wait for fire emblem heros to not require gallons of my time to 'keep up' or for clash royal to remove its paywall or for me to figure out why I can't find a reason to play magic arena even though I found the game interesting.
Millions of people enjoy those games. And probably most of them are better than when I played it. They can keep enjoying it. I'm enjoying the games I play. And that's that.
One of my favorite moments from playing Hearthstone was the one time I got the VOLTRON thing to happen with Mimiron's Head. I'm pretty sure the priest I was playing COULD have possibly derailed it, but he was losing anyway, and I'm guessing he just wanted to see it also, haha.
So far I've spent 5 bucks on Magic, and I've never felt like I was at a great disadvantage, so logically I should be ok without purchasing this. . .but damn, I want to. I'll probably cave and do it. That Chandra art is pretty sweet, and I love her Spark card,
Greymane and Hooktusks are run in different decks that target different classes and have different goals. You play hooktusk if you want more tempo, and Greymane if you want more value. Hooktusk is very strong, but you'll lose to almost every warrior out there when they just aoe your board. This deck chooses a medium balance between lots of tempo and also lots of value. I don't like warriors, so I'm playing Greymane to combat them which brings us to your next question...
Scheme is included mainly for Tess in long value matchups that rogue would lose otherwise. You remember shamans and their infinite shudderwocks? We're basically doing the same thing here. Also, you can chain multiple Heistbaron Togwaggles with Wondrous Wand for even more treasures which will usually win you a game. Against extremely aggressive decks shuffling multiple Zilliaxs can also be the right play.
Finally, you have four cards that directly give you alternative class cards and that's enough to reliably get vendetta to zero. And with the shadowsteps, shark spirits, and Barista Lynchen you can easily duplicate your four direct cards to get even more fuel for Tess. Against control warrior or big shaman you won't have an issue pulling this off, and against fast decks your game plan is different anyway. We don't play the other steal cards because, while we might get more fuel for Tess, the other steal cards just kinda suck on their own.
Mainly you're going for Tess so you can basically do rogue's version of infinite Shudderwock. This is how you'll win value games such as control warrior or big shaman. Sometimes you can do crazy chains with Wondrous Wand and multiple Heistbaron Toggswaggles for even more treasures. Finally, in aggressive matchups like hunter shuffling more Zilliaxs into your deck can be pretty good.
No worries man, if you posted the link to mine it's all good. And if you've found improvements to the deck that's even better. What were the changes by the way? Always good to hear other people's thoughts

Group Therapy! Need to blow off some steam? Mega salty? Here's the place!
Man I hate Mass Hysteria, I always seem to get the worst possible outcome out of it. Wether I play it or my opponent.
Rafaam's Hand treasure bugged or working correctly?
I was avoiding that treasure cause I thought it was bugged.. good to know it's still probably one of the weaker ones though..
it only cheats 4 mana and that mana cheated is spent on 2 mediocre cards.
Mimiron's Head?
Wild is too powerful for that gimmick card to work, you could try to play it in quest mage.. but there are better, easier to set up mage OTKs.
if you have 1600 spare dust go ahead.
Great job, Flux
Credit where credit is due, great performance so far on my end as well.
Interview with the Class Competition Winner - Pircival & the Archaeologist Class
Congrats! Archeologist is a really well-designed class. Now waiting for the WCDC themed around this class and ofc next big comp :)
Big Deathrattle Hunter.. any inputs?
Apologies.. the deck turned into a totally different direction and well I now have more options to choose from lol..

About using HearthArena
The base scores are mostly correct.
The deck building algorithm that is used to adjusted the scores can be wildly off.
The app is a good second opinion, but it will be less and less useful as you become better and more experienced.
Current Red Deck
So model after the shell of mono red with some more late game.
Most people think i am playing aggro mono red and over commit resources. Kind of a fun deck.
