Riot just published an article for their Legends of Runeterra Champion development process, and may have given away a little more than intended. In the first couple of sentences they mention two characters we haven't seen yet, and the particular phrasing appears to be confirmation that the Champions already exist.
Quote From Riot From a celestial dragon who forged the very stars to a literal tree (actually, there are two trees), League of Legends has a wide range of champions. And when it came to bringing them to Legends of Runeterra, we had a lot to work with: four (or more) abilities, a backstory, in-game dialogue, art, player feedback… You get it. Sometimes we had a little too much.
The links in the article point to Aurelion Sol, an ancient, celestial dragon who forged the very stars in the cosmos, and Ivern, a half man, half tree who wanders the forest of Runeterra. The line that really stands out for me is "And when it CAME to bringing them to Legends of Runeterra...". This is past tense, so it indicates to me that they've already created them or they could have used existing characters in that sentence or phrased it differently.
Aurelion Sol isn't a huge surprise, as we already knew about new voice lines that were datamined last month. But his existence would confirm that Targon will be the next region introduced to Legends of Runeterra!
Ivern is more of a surprise, because we didn't know of any existing voice lines for him. However, it would make a lot more sense to see him, rather than Lulu, be introduced for the Ionia region as the next Champion.
All of our predictions for Rising Tides from the datamined article last month have been 100% correct. Do you agree with our predictions for the next region and Champions? We should get the next set sometime in July or August, so we'll know for sure by then. In the meantime we'll keep our eyes peeled for spoilers!

I’ve been playing it on iPhone all week. I’m enjoying it but I’m not really sure which direction I should be going..or deck building.
My advice to newer players is to concentrate on expeditions and ranked. I'm a bit biased since I really enjoy expeditions but you aren't restricted by your card collection there and you can sometimes get some crazy combos going. One of my latest runs even inspired me to build a deck (once I get the cards for it, that is).
Ranked is (or at least used to be) better for newer players as the low ranks are likely to consist of other new players, while Normal has all sorts of players. I played a lot of my very own build of Demacia/Freljord there when I started until I kept losing and began to realize how badly build that deck was. If you don't have a clear vision on what to build, you can start by modifying the pre-built started decks to suit your style/needs. I personally tend to get ideas (i.e. directly copy decklists) when I play against other decks.
Yeah, I feel ya. Deckbuilding just doesn’t come naturally with this game, and does not seem fun. I think it’s the way you slowly build your collection - vs just buying a ton and having a lot to experiment with. It’s another reason why it’s hard for me to say that I really like this. I’d almost rather them do what Elder Scrolls Legends did with selling premade decks for $5. I’d buy a couple - or all of them
Have they come forward and talked about their general design philosophy for adding regions? Will every expansion come with a region?
Yes. They discussed it back in January when they did their Beta and Beyond video. Timestamp didn't work - start at 4:56 for your answer.
They really did it! The absolute madmen
I must admit this game is growing on me.
Mt. Targon means my beloved Leona is coming :D
