Things to Do in WoW This Week – Pet Battles, Season 4 Grind

Welcome to week 2 of October in World of Warcraft. We’re still a little time away from the Dragonflight pre-patch, and this is the last week without any major events that we’ll have for a while.

Getting the big news out of the way first, Shadowlands Season 4 is officially ending on October 25. That means you have two weeks to keep grinding if you’re looking to claim the limited-time rewards from either Mythic+ or Rated PvP. This is the best week to do it, as next week we’ve got Hallow’s End and Cataclysm Timewalking to keep us busy!

Also a gentle reminder the Winds of Wisdom buff is active, granting you 50% increased XP gain! If our crystal ball is correct, the pre-patch should drop October 26th, meaning there’s only two weeks left to enjoy the increased experience rate!

Dates in this article are for the European server’s timeline.

This Week’s Major Events

  • Pet Battle Bonus Event is live and your pets gain 3x the normal XP! Make sure to pick up the associated weekly quest from your Adventure Guide to get an Ultimate Pet Battle Training Stone.
  • The PvP Brawl for this week is Deepwind Dunk.
  • The Fated Raid for this week is Sanctum of Domination.
  • Hallow’s End starts Tuesday, so we’ll get into that in next week’s post!

If you’re looking to get your pets leveled up faster, here’s a few activities that’ll net you a good chunk of XP:

  • Legion world quest trainers. You can do these world quests once on each character, so repeat as necessary.
  • Warlords of Draenor & Pandaria trainers. You can only do their daily quests once per day, per account.
  • Bonus points: Do these on a character that’s not level 60 to take advantage of the Winds of Wisdom and level a character at the same time.

Avoid doing Battle for Azeroth and Shadowlands pet battle world quests as the XP they give is… really not worth it, unless the world quest itself gives out a good reward.

You need to be level 60 to pick this quest up directly from the Adventure Guide.

Alternative Activities

With things getting progressively busier next week, this is the last week where there’s plenty of time to spend doing dubious, old-world activities! Just like last week, we’ve come up with a short list of stuff to keep you busy:

  • This week’s Legion world boss is Shar’thos. For Warriors, he drops a piece of a hidden artifact appearance. Additionally, you may want to farm him on several alts for a chance at the Despoiled Dreamthread Cloak, which has a unique appearance.
  • Now is probably the best time to knock off some Torghast achievements. Once the pre-patch drops, it may be harder to do them with the new talent tree.
  • Most people are probably waiting for the pre-patch to subscribe again, so now’s the best time to hunt down elusive rares such as the Zandalari Warbringer. Go get those mounts!

Our Challenge To You

We’ve got something a little different for you this week. Unfortunately, it will require the ‘All The Things’ addon, unless your knowledge of the game is so deep you already know all the things you have! Seriously, get that addon.

Here it is: Get all unlearned gear appearances for one class from zones in Kalimdor and Eastern Kingdoms.

Configure your ‘All The Things’ addon to count shared appearances (tick ‘Appearances’, keep ‘+Sources’ unticked) unless you’re a hardcore completionist.

Bronze Tier: Get all gear appearances from three zones.
Silver Tier: Get all gear appearances from five zones.
Gold Tier: Get all gear appearances from eight zones.

This will entail, for the most part, just questing. Pro tip: Avoid Silithus unless you’ve already got Thunderfury! Many zones also have items listed as a ‘zone drop’, so if you’re picking these zones to finish, make sure you take a bit of mindless mob grinding into account.
