During today's Microsoft + Bethesda livestream, Riot Games made a surprise appearance and gave us some pretty neat news. They're partnering up with Microsoft to offer huge benefits for Game Pass subscribers in all of their first-party titles.
For Legends of Runeterra players, this means that every subscribers gets the Foundations set. That's a fairly sizable piece of the card pool, which is a great value for new players that want to try out the game.

This is great for people who don't already have every card. LOL
I wonder if that’s a bigger market than we realize. LoR is incredibly generous with people who are willing to devote a few hours per week to it. But maybe there’s a potential audience of casual players who would enjoy playing less than that? If so, they now have enough resources to build a deck around their favorite LoL character, and they can have fun. Some of those players will eventually become more serious, and others will stay casual but keep the player base up. I see that as a good thing.
About the LoR portion of this pass:
As Hashinshin already said on his Video: it's nice to have, it helps to build decks in the beginning but it's not amazing and given that LoR is very generous with card aqusition I don't see it being necessary.
You would have to shell out some serious coin to acquire every League of Legends champion in one go...just handing them all out "for free" is crazy. I played for years and only had like 55% of the roster at that time.
I think that took 4-5 years for me to buy every single champion. And this is a good deal for the players and them, since you would not buy skins that you dont own a champion, and I think thar people would not spend real money buying champions, normaly.
It's not that crazy, I mean you wouldn't be able to play every single champion even if you own all of them, so there is little incentive to spend money to unlock champions and Riot makes most of their profit from cosmetics.
By the way: how does it come that we haven't added eachother already given we are on this forum for quite some time already?
I don't know, the subject never came up I guess.
Better late than never I guess :)
That is a pretty amazing deal. How does it work logistically? As long as you have the cards, your duplicates automatically turn to shards worth a fraction of the value. If you buy any bundles, the cards you own are prorated and removed. If you cancel the pass and your cards disappear, you might feel cheated because you couldn’t get those cards before…
