Gabe from Penny Arcade has been playing Marvel Snap and shared his thoughts on what he loves about the game on the Penny Arcade website. Being an artist, he's also announced that he's going to be working on art for some new Variants that could be coming to Marvel Snap soon(TM).
If you aren't familiar with Penny Arcade, it's a webcomic about video games that's been regularly updating since 1998. Gabe is the protagonist of Penny Arcade, and the fictional alter ego of the webcomic's illustrator, Mike Krahulik.
Quote From Gabe from Penny Arcade I have been doing a ton of drawing recently and the majority of it has been for the upcoming Marvel Snap card game!
Marvel Snap is a card battler that features small decks and fast rounds. I’ve been in the beta for a few weeks now and love it. It's very smart and the people at Second Dinner obviously know what they are doing. The game is full of great art and one of the ways you can customize your deck is by purchasing “Variants”. These are mechanically identical to the regular cards you have but drawn by different artists. So for example, you and I both might have Deadpool in our decks but yours is the default and mine is a “Variant” I bought by Skottie Young. Or, maybe it’s by me!
I will be drawing five cards for Marvel Snap and I’ve been given the green light to tease you with some tight crops. That sounds kind of gross but I promise I'm just going to post some drawings. It’s not hyperbole to say that drawing these characters in an official capacity is literally a childhood dream come true. I’m having a blast designing these cards and I can’t wait for you all to see the finished product in game. One of the cool things about the art in Marvel Snap is that it’s given a very cool 3D effect. I’m not sure how they are doing it but it’s like an incredibly fancy parallax effect that gives the cards a ton of depth. It means I have to draw and construct the art in million different layers but holy crap am I excited to see the final result!
I’ll share more later but for now, here’s a sneak peek and some of the stuff I’ve been working on for Marvel Snap!
Three familiar faces (Source)
This isn't the first time Gabe has done art for a card game; you might recognize his work from a little CCG called Hearthstone. Gabe from Penny Arcade is credited as the artist for Classic cards Leeroy Jenkins and Kill Command (like most Classic cards, both were reused art pieces from the defunct WoW TCG), as well as Master Jouster from The Grand Tournament.
Do you recognize the characters from Gabe's sneak peek? Why didn't Master Jouster become the meta staple it deserved to be? Share your thoughts in the comments!

I saw a Green Goblin variant in the store that I assumed was Gabe's work. I could be mistaken though. Would be nice if the artists were credited in-game.
Yeah it's weird that they don't have that in yet, considering how important these original art pieces are to the game's economy. The devs are on record saying that they'll be credited in-game at some point, though.
The first one has to be Ghost-Spider (a.k.a. Spider-Gwen), which is not available in Marvel Snap currently. The other two are obviously Deadpool and Doctor Strange. 🤔
Obviously...
It’s 2022 and people still giving penny arcade folks money?
The art is in point, but the cartoony style does not fit in Hearthstone art style I think. It just feels off compared to most HS-designs.
Should be great for the Marvel-game.
