The Developers at Second Dinner have been answering community questions over on the Marvel Snap Discord. We've gone through to find the most interesting answers from the past week and summarized them for you here.

  • This recap covers answers given on the Discord from July 25 through July 31.
  • This is not an exhaustive recap of every answer. We've picked out answers to questions that we either felt were the most interesting, enlightening, or provided additional context to previous answers.
  • The transcript below covers the full answers given to the points we've summarized; for the full experience you'll have to scroll through the Discord and see what we haven't covered.
  • If you want to read our previous Developer Discord Recaps, they can be found here.

Seasons

  • The new Season starts on Tuesday. Usually Seasons will start on the first Tuesday of the month; this is an exception.
  • There will be 12 Seasons in a year. Some will be 4 weeks, some 5 weeks.
  • They may add a Chapter 5 for future 5 week Seasons, but it would require changing the amount of XP gained in each Chapter's missions.
  • Season Passes will always cost real money, they cannot be obtained for Gold.

Cosmetics

  • They want to add more cosmetics to the game over time.
  • Premium Avatars (ones that aren't crops from current card artwork) is something they're going to add in the future.
  • Right now, seasonal card backs are only gained from the Season Pass, but they're willing to try out a card back reward for reaching certain ranks in future Seasons.
  • While currency-related Ranked rewards are unlikely to change, they will continue iterating on cosmetic rewards to find what players like most.

Missions

  • They see the ability to buy two extra Season Missions for 120 Gold as a good way for players to catch up if they've fallen behind in the weekly challenge, as well as an easy way to get more Season XP and Credits.
  • They're likely to reduce the current Season mission requirement for full completion from 35 to 25.

Cards

  • They aren't going to allow players to transfer cosmetic upgrades from a Base card to a Variant of the same character. They view upgrading a new Variant as a positive, since it progresses your Collection Level.
  • They tried "Equipment" cards in early testing, but didn't like the design. They may add "non-Character" cards at some point in the distant future.
  • Patriot is Ben's pick for most underrated card.

Miscellaneous

  • They want to add achievements at some point. Achievement rewards are undecided; they may not be cosmetics.
  • There is no story mode in development for Marvel Snap, but there's a chance single player content eventually makes its way into the game (not by global release, though).
  • Ben refused to tease the new card on Discord.
  • But Stephen dropped some hints on Twitter: "Who is the best lawyer in the Marvel universe?"

Quote From Snap Developers

will seasons start on the first of the month eventually?

Stephen: Seasons will normally start on the first Tuesday of every month. This month is an exception. (Source)

Can we expect 13 4-week seasons a year, or will there be 12 seasons with some longer than others (like this July was)?

Stephen: 12 seasons with some being 4 weeks and some 5 weeks (Source)

Where are the Chapter 5 missions?

Stephen: If we added a chapter 5, we would have to lower the XP in the other 4 weeks since the pass has the same amount of levels. Decided better to first try it without a 5th chapter. We are watching the metrics on its impact and will adjust accordingly if necessary in future 5 week seasons (Source)

Started playing during the Love and Thunder season, where the pass costs real money, but saw a screenshot of a previous season where the pass was purchasable with gold. Will that ever happen again or will Season Passes always be real money only?

Ben Brode: that was just the test season that lasted a few days before our first season began (Source)

Are you guys planning to add more cosmetics item into the game ? Like more game board or different snap animation with different voice.

Ben Brode: yes, over time (Source)

Are there plans to use unique artwork for avatars? Currently avatars are cropped sections of existing card artwork which are better represented when viewed as a whole.

Stephen: Yes we want to do premium avatars at some point in the future! (Source)

I love cardbacks, is there any chance that in future after each season reset we'll get a cardback on rank rewards? Like current Agent rank one, but different every season

Stephen: Right now we have 2 card backs per season in season pass. We will try what it feels like to have those in ranked in a future season. We will keep experimenting with ti to see what feels best! (Source)

Have you thought about increasing and improving the rewards of the rankeds? If so, could you give a tentative date?

Stephen: We have no plans to increase the currency rewards in ranked right now but we will iterate on the cosmetic rewards over time to find what feels most exciting to try to achieve and show off each season (Source)

So the dev team has said that they want players to feel good about spending money in-game. What has the feedback been like for 120 gold = 2 rerolled missions?

Stephen: I think you mean the 2 more missions for 120 gold? If yes then we see it as a great catch up mechanic for the weekly challenge plus an extra way to get more credits and season XP

Hopefully that doesnt stop a change from the current 35 quest requirement. There was alot of feedback against it but it got drowned out from the nexus event feedback.

Stephen: Yeah we agree. We are planning to lower it to 5/10/15/20/25 in a future patch
If it is still too much then we will continue watching it (Source)

Are there any plans to allow us to transfer boosters from the normal cards to newly purchased variants? Currently it feels bad to have to start completely from scratch when you find a variant you like on the store, but you already spent time and resources infinity splitting the base model. This has held me back from purchasing some variants I was on the border with. Thanks!

Stephen: We have no plans to enable transferring s[ent upgrades between variants. We view the ability to upgrade a new variant as a benefit to gain additional Collection Level while investing in the same character you love. (Source)

Do you plan adding cards that are not Marvel characters ? e.g. Spells ?

Ben Brode: we tried "Equipment" but didn't love it. It's possible some day, but I don't think the game needs it right now (Source)

What is a card that defies popular opinion according to your analytics? What card do we think is bad but actually has a good win rate?

Ben Brode: hmmm maybe Patriot? (Source)

Are there any thoughts on an achievement list? Like play a card X times and get a cool variant or avatar…

Stephen: We want to do achievements at some point. Rewards for it aren't decided. May not be cosmetic rewards (Source)

Will there be a story mode?

Stephen: Not for initial global release. We believe it's better for players have to their own story than one we dictate to them. We may do single player stuff at some point though! Never know (Source)

If you could tease the new season hero with an emoji, what would it be?

Ben Brode: y'all are too smart and would guess it immediately lol (Source)

Stephen: Who is the best lawyer in the Marvel universe? I hear the new season in Marvel Snap is coming soon and Hellcow might sue for damages. (Source)
