We've got a new featured location in MARVEL SNAP and it's Plunder Castle!
Plunder Castle is a completely new location being added to MARVEL SNAP as part of the January Season: Savage Land. Only cards that cost 6 can be played there.
Plunder Castle is an interesting dilemma, and first we should point out something very tricky: The location specifically states cards "that cost 6," and not "6-Cost cards." This means that, as much as we would like the newly Series 3 She-Hulk to be an early turn all-star, she can't actually be played to Plunder Castle if her cost has been reduced. At the same time, effects that increase a card's cost to 6 (like Baron Mordo), will make it so those cards, whatever their original cost, are now eligible to enter the Castle.
Our guess is that Plunder Castle games will behave a lot like games with Sanctum Sanctorum, where the most prevalent strategies will involve playing cards that summon cards to the location, but with the added bonus of being able to play a Heimdall or Magneto there on the final turn. Ramp, with Electro should be able to make good use of the featured location, as well.
However you choose to plan for the new location, you'd better get used to it; being a featured location means that Plunder Castle will have a 40% chance to appear for 48 hours, from 7 PM PT Tuesday night to 7 PM PT Thursday night (2 AM UTC Wednesday to 2 AM UTC Friday).
On Reveal: Move all opposing 3 and 4-Cost cards to this location. On Reveal: Your opponent draws a card, Set its Cost to 6.
What Are Featured Locations in MARVEL SNAP?
There are two different types of location events in MARVEL SNAP.
- Sunday's Hot Location that has a 60% chance to appear for the next 24 hours.
- Wednesday's Featured Location that has a 40% chance to appear for the next 48 hours.
This helps pave way for new deckbuilding strategies as you may want to be playing something else should the bonus better benefit cards you aren't playing with. We've seen this previously with the featured location, Monster Island, whose boosted appearances meant many players ran Shang-Chi to destroy the 9 Power Monster.
As announced in the developer livestream, MARVEL SNAP will be getting a brand new location every week and it will be featured when it is added, as we're seeing now with Plunder Castle.
