There was a lot of discussion about the MTG Arena Brawlidays event when it first launched last month. Mostly, players were unhappy with the cost of the event (10,000 gold or 2,000 gems), but evidently Wizards was pleased with the participation they saw and decided to run the event again starting on January 16 through February 14. Will you be joining in the brawl this time around?
Last month the reward for participating was Rhys the Redeemed, and you can still continue to play until the next event starts on January 16.
Quote From WotC We ran Brawlidays last update as an experiment, and we found that over half of the players who regularly play Brawl engaged with the event. We consider this as a strong success for our intended audience, and so we're excited to bring this back for the January update. This month's event will run from the launch of the January update until the February update (currently planned for February 14), be available for 10,000 gold, and features Talrand, Sky Summoner as the reward for the first win.
We've also seen a noticeable uptick in the number of people playing Brawl in Direct Challenge and Friends Challenge. It's cool to see more community-run tools making it easier for players to find each other. And we're going to spend a lot of our efforts this year increasing the social ability of playing with friends in-game. That starts with Friends Messaging, hitting in the next few months.

Why won't they implement permanent Brawl? It's by far the funnier game mode. They will get more players for sure
I haven't been keeping up with MTG Arena lately, the w/g card in the image above is in Lorewin if I'm not mistaken - Was modern added in to Arena or something?
All of the sets in the game are from Ixalan forward, but there are around 20-30 cards or so (I didn't count them) that have been added to the game from older sets.
Yes, Rhys the Redeemed was originally in the Shadowmoor expansion. It can be used in the new Historic format, which is a non-rotating format unique to MTG Arena.
