Legends of Runeterra

Like being able to run up to 3 of any number of champions I don't think a deck full of champions would be strong at all so it wouldn't break the game it would probably just look tacky on the matchup screen.

What are your favourite cards and what will you be testing day 1 after launch?

I am not a great theorycrafter so personally I will focus on improving what I already have, maybe a Yasuo deck.

And of course some Bilgewater cards will be tested by me, toss mechanic seems cool.

I know it can be beaten (mainly by shadow isles ... ). I know there's way around it.

Still, why is such a toxic mechanic in the game? Wether it's op or not (I personally think that buffs are the main problem in terms of those decks being op), playing against mass elusives is EXTREMELY boring, anti-fun and generaly just toxic.

Even if you play the perfect counter deck, if they draw the right buffs at the right time, you'll lose,  no matther what you do. I just played a game where my opponent played Solitary monk on 3 and buffed it +9/+9 with triple Take heart on turn 6 after blocking 1 of my attacks. Unless you play instant  removal from Shadow isles (Vengeance, which would still be a stretch on turn 6) or some gimmicky spells like Purify or Noxian Guillotine, there's is no way you ever ever win that game as any decks even if you play and draw perfectly. 

A mechanic LITERALLY based around avoinding any kind of interactions with your opponent should NEVER be a viable part of a card game.

Any thoughts?

I hear that Legends of Runeterra is going live on 30th April. Is this date confirmed?

Before the showcase of new cards, Darius was a semi viable champion pick. Having the strongest Power and overwhelm, and can level up mid combat to surprise lethal the Nexus was cool. But now, there are many champions that do damage to the Nexus in more interesting ways. Yes I do think his core should be simply strength. But that is all he has going for him. Plus it doesnt take much to kill Darius.

I had an idea this morning...

Some of the interactions in LoR aren't....let's say as refined as they should be.  One of those being how people play and interact with Elusive creatures.

I kept thinking "well why didn't they just make it like Hearthstone's elusives, where they can't be targeted by spells" but then I realized that in a game where certain units can block, elusives in Hearthstone are like "anti removal".  But Elusives in LoR are the opposite, they can't be blocked except by other elusives...

So then I thought.  Well...that kind of makes them more like Hearthstone's stealth, but again...stealth isn't really a mechanic in LoR and it's not quite the same.

LoR is about a game where "ANY" unit can block....elusives requiring OTHER elusives to block makes no sense.  It either promotes a meta of nothing but elusives, or nothing but removal.  Neither of which is healthy.   If a card dictates the meta that much there's obviously a problem.

Then I had a fantastic idea.  Legends of Runeterra already has Quick Attack, which makes a unit on offense essentially able to get a free attack (stipulations obviously not considered here for brevity).

What if the Elusive mechanic was reworked into the opposite of quick attack.  Kinda like "Quick Defense"  Instead of Elusives requiring other elusives to block.  Any card with quick attack is generally better on offense than defense.  What if Elusive cards were better on DEFENSE instead of offense.  Elusive could be reworked into something like "the first damage or spell this round is dodged".  Meaning that an elusive card on offense would be able to be blocked by ANY unit (no longer requiring other elusives) but on defense it would not take any damage.

However, things like quick attack or double attack (Lucian/Senna) could bypass elusive.  So in order to kill an elusive unit, you have to force them to use it on offense, or you have to use a "ping" type spell (like Mystic shot for example).

It would work similar to barrier in that sense, but barrier can be used both offensively/defensively, where Elusive would be a defensive only mechanic to be the opposite of quick attack.  

Of course with all of this occurring in this hypothetical scenario, Elusive would become a much better Armor mechanic (which IMO is a crappy mechanic that hardly anyone uses, it rarely ever helps and probably needs to be reworked or buffed itself, or alternatively allow the Tough mechanic to stack...)

Anyhow...just my shower thought this morning...

Hi, i just want to hear your opinion about what a new player should do.

I started playing recently and i have levelled up some regions: 1) shadow isle 2) piltover 3) demacia 4) frejlord.
I didn't complete them, they are in the range of 9-13 over 20 levels.

What is it better to do? Level up all regions one by one completely (so 0 to 20 then switch) or is it correct to do what i am doing?
What is the minimum level to reach in a region before switching to another?

Not sure if anyone here is familiar with Duels of Runeterra, but at this point in time (Runeterra still in Beta) it's one of, if not THE biggest tournament out there right now. This past week was the first week officially sponsored by Team Liquid! =)

I have started playing Legends of Runeterra about ~2.5 months ago, got all 3 copies of each card, reached Masters and i'm pretty exited about the official release of the game, I have played many card games before (Hearthstone, Eternal, Yugioh, Faeria, Gwent, etc...) they are all great games with their unique play-style, but there is always that 1 game decision by the makers that turn if from "Great" to "hm...yeah" sometimes "ok...that's it for me", be it card balance, card release frequency (slow-fast), massive change of game design, or even games switching business models altogether (f2p ->p2p).

Now back to LoR, during those 2.5 months I have seen many kinds of decks and strategies and i would like to share my 2 cents regarding each of the 6 Regions currently available starting with a personal ranking of their popularity:

1- Shadow Isles (fighting one Every other game)

2- Piltover & Zaun (If =/= "Shadow Isles" then = "P&Z"; )

3- Ionia (There are Elusives in one side and then there is Deny)

4- Demacia (Or should I call it "BannerMacia" ?)

5- Noxus (Go face or go home!)

6- Freljord (No comment...)

This just shows how even if there are a few different decks, they tend to use the same "Main" regions with slight variations in the supporting ones.

Giving all regions equal answers for specific strategies, could help diversify the decks (for example, dealing damage and/or killing enemy units shouldn't be reserved to two or 3 regions, same for card draw "some have 6+ ways to draw cards, others have 1").

I really hope these new 120+ cards have some of these "Answers" for the regions that needs them most.

I'm not the biggest expedition player--I think the format is fine, but personally I only want to play when I can do both trials in one long uninterrupted session so I often end up just playing normal constructed games for daily XP--and lately I've been procrastinating so much that my stock of tokens from the weekly vaults has been starting to accumulate.  I was going to try to play catch-up this weekend, but then I thought: what if it would be more advantageous to wait until the release?  

The expansion is coming out April 30th, and they've said it will include 120+ new cards.  Currently, there are 318 unique collectible cards (6 regions, 53 per).  Now granted, they have not identified how exactly rewards will differ after the expansion releases, but even if they just intermix the new cards with the current cards that still implies you'll have a ~25% chance of each card being new.  Plus there's the whole season road: if you can apply your XP progression towards that, then doing the full 3 expeditions/week means that you should get a quick burst of progression.

What do you guys think?

I have reached level 20 with all the Regions. Now when I complete a game there is a label "season road reward 0-9000" but doesn't increase at all after a match. Any clue ?

In the interest of not leaving this forum empty, I submit to you my Shadow Ashe control deck.  I know I posted this on the General Forums about a month back and that thread didn't get much activity; however I'll post it again here just because I find this deck so cool and NO ONE is playing it.  Your Plan A Win Con is just what you would expect: use an Elise spider package with Ashe splashed in to get ahead on board.  However if you do get behind, you can The Ruination the entire board away and fall back on your secret weapon: The Harrowing.  If you've juiced enough Ashe into your rez pool, you'll get an ephemeral cavalry of 6/4 attackers, each of which will make one of your opponents minions unable to block.  So much fun!

so its not fair to lose from 20 life after winning the game the entire time. allowing people to have wins stolen from them in this way will make people stop playing your game. honestly its really bad game design to allow a deck to lose and be behind for 10 turns, then kill their opponent from 20 with a few spells. none of witch even deal damage to them normally. please fix this before your entire player base leaves and stops playing. im not ok with having my games stolen from me by this skilless and i do mean SKILLESS ezreal deck. I will concede to every ezreal karma deck i see and i think everyone else should too. boycott this deck and refuse to play against them. refuse to let them have any fun.

I always felt like the token was quite overloaded, 1 mana 10 points of stats is quite wild. The thing is, it is easy to get them, they are good in tempo and they are cheap. Aren't they quite overtuned?

New patch is out and there were many reasonable changes made which tuned down bannerman and fearsome spiders quite decently.

While I like that the meta is changing I encountered a sort of aggro deck that I have no clue how to stop:

Ephemeral burn (SI + P&Z) with Kalista and Hecarim as the Champions.

Since Kalista got buffed it is laughable easy for ephemeral decks to level her right when she is played using Haunted Relic, Shark Chariot, Used Cask Salesman or simply Hecarim and once you have flipped her she and hecarim spawn free ephemerals on attack who feed nicely into their Phantom Prankster

If you think that this sounds already quite hard to stop i got to remind you that this deck also has Mystic Shot and Get Excited! to finish you WHILE also having always the option to blow up the board with The Ruination since they dont really have a board to loose

I personally dont see a way to control this deck and it seems to me that you only can rush that deck down

I might oversee a way to stop that but thats why I'm asking you folks
