Very curious card, it seems like Demacia got an ally
Seems like the soraka package to me but where is soraka?
Spell shield + elusives?
Does it protects against ruination? Or only single target?
it seems like it is just like "Can't be targeted by spells" to me.
You sure? It seems like it could defend against an avalanche..
Oh I guess you may be right.
I'm wondering about the 2 support cards. They don't state "this round" for the buffs. Is this inconsistent wording or does anyone think it's a permanent buff in stats? (All other support cards specify "this round", except Shen and stirred spirits - but barrier and ephemeral only last one round by definition anyway)
Edit: ok I realised the cards say "Grant" instead of "Give", thus the buffs are indeed permanent.
I'm really liking all the support for Support, since that's a real cool mechanic that seems to be underutilized.
Regarding Bastion: its ambiguous, but based on what they've said and comparing it to Barrier I would expect:
Regarding comparisons to Deny: it's somewhat apples and oranges. Deny hard-counters big finishers like Warmother's Call and The Harrowing, which Bastion has no effect on. Bastion can be used proactively to prevent frostbite whereas Deny is limited to fast and slow speed spells/abilities. A more fitting comparison might be Prismatic Barrier: for the same 3 mana, Barrier will effectively negate 1 hostile damage-based spell with the benefit that it could also be used in normal combat and the drawback that it has no effect on non-damage spells like Culling Strike and Vengeance.
So, Support mechanic could be Mt. Targon's one core identity. But of course, we are just at the beginning.
I wonder how long until Bastion gets nerfed from 3 mana to 4, like Deny?
It can't be 4 mana imo, because it's worse than Deny (it only affects one - friendly minion).
On the other hand it's burts... Nerf would probably change it's speed to fast.
It does a LOT of things Deny cannot do. It's not worse, just different. Very different.
Such as?
Protect a unit from Frostbite, which is something that exists nowhere else in the game.
Be used in a deck without Ionia.
Get drawn by Zap Sprayfin.
That is correct.
But imo realistically speaking it won't be used as anti frostbite tool, there are much better situations to use it.
If you're up against a Freljord deck that doesn't run any Fast spells, what else are you going to use it on?
You're going to include Bastion (or Deny) to protect your units from magic. You can't know ahead of time what specific spells those will be. Against Freljord, Deny is very often a dead card. Bastion isn't.
Also note that as a Burst-speed spell, Bastion cannot be countered by Deny.
I cannot be the only one who's slightly annoyed with the spelling of the keyword, can I? Why not Spellshield instead of SpellShield?
Yup. Add a space, or lowercase the second "S", please. :)
yeah it looks unusual.
"Nullifies the next enemy spell or skill" does make me think it cancels the whole spell or skill, just like the Fizz ability.
If that's not how it works, they need to rewrite the keyword definition.
To answer my own question: Yip confirmed via Twitter that SpellShield does NOT cancel the whole spell, only the part that affects the protected unit.
