Prepping for Rotation and Classic

Submitted 3 years, 10 months ago by

Hey everyone,

With the recent announcement, anyone care to share any tidbits or some nice-to-know info?

My take-aways from the announcements:

  • Unlike Hall of Fame, no dust for cards that will rotate out of the core set. (I really regret holding onto Edwin)
  • No point in holding unto classic packs since the new core set will be free

**Disclaimer: this is just my understanding, so I may be wrong or have misunderstood.

It depends on what modes you want to play:

    • in Standard, your Legacy cards are useless, since you'll get access to the ones in the Core Set whether you have them in your collection or not
    • in Wild, having Legacy cards in your collection can be useful, since they'll not all be in the Core Set all the time
    • in the new Classic format, you only get the old versions of Legacy cards if the card is in your collection

If you only play Standard, you can disenchant your Legacy cards on rotation, but you'll only get the disenchant value, not the full craft value. However, if you do this for all your Legacy cards, it can still be a large pile of dust. Only do this though if you're very sure you only ever want to play Standard: as Duels has shown, there might be new game modes that make use of cards outside of Standard.

For opening Classic packs, if you only care about Standard, it doesn't matter when you open them. But if you care about other formats or modes, you might be better off holding on to them until rotation, since hall-of-famed cards like Ragnaros, Sylvanas and Leeroy should be returning to Classic packs.

Might be a good idea to raise all your hero to lv.60 to get all the golden basic cards, so you can get extra dusts when they rotated out.

You don't get any dust. You do get 235 cards for free, though

A man is lying on the street, some punks chopped off his head

I'm the only one who stops to see if he's dead.

    Hmm. Turns out he's dead.

I'm only planning to play mainly standard though might dabble in classic for the nostalgia. I won't be disenchanting any card since I have enough gold and dust banked up, and as you have mentioned, classic may have more uses outside of classic format.

Good point of returning legs from HOF. I will have to check if I have any missing HOF cards.

while I don't know if it's gonna be like Basic HoF that turns into common cards, but I'll still try to get it tho.

So regarding Classic pack, this is how it seems to me:

If you hope to open HoF cards (except Baku & Genn), hold on until after rotation.

If you hope to open recently added Classic cards, open them now.

Have I understood it correctly? I have saved a couple of Classic packs, but I think I have all HoF cards already so it might be best to open them now...

I think what this person meant was you will get dust disenchanting the golden basic cards, which will become commons.

Doing this means you’ll still have the non-golden copies.  But 2 golden commons DE for a combined 100 dust.  So with two copies of all 143 basic cards in golden, you DE them all for 14,300 dust, nearly 9 legendaries worth of dust!

Quick!  Someone give me something clever to write here.

That is my understanding as well. So if you have all the HOF cards that will be returning to classic, might as well open them now unless you specifically want dup or golden versions of the HOF cards.

Thanks, never thought of this. Time to grind mage to level 60!

May all your legendaries be golden.
