Legends of Runeterra's Empires of the Ascended expansion launches today, and it features our first-ever expansion event! Here are the details and rewards for the event.
Event Details
The event will run from March 3rd 11 am PST (today's expansion release) until March 31st 11 am PST. The currency of the event will be Sun Discs, which will be earned through PvP wins and by completing special event quests.
- The first PvP victory of the day will award 2 Sun Discs; each subsequent win will award 1 Sun Disc
- The quests will be chains, each of which will have two possible paths for completion and take several games to complete
- There will also be a special additional quest worth 10 Sun Discs for everyone who purchases the Event Pass before March 16th.
- PvE matches and friendly matches will not award any Sun Discs.
The Event Pass will be available for purchase for 975 coins (approximately $10 USD) in the shop once Empires of the Ascended goes live. It is not necessary to purchase the Event Pass to participate in the event, but players who do will receive additional rewards. Of course, you can always use your Shurima Securi to buy tickets for a free Event Pass through Out of Cards' Path to Ascension Giveaway!
Rewards
The event will have a reward path with 28 levels. Players will start immediately at level 1, and every 10 Sun Discs will advance your progress an additional level. 9 of the 28 levels will be available to everyone for free while the other 19 will require purchasing the Event Pass to unlock them. Each level has a unique reward, starting with a Fen guardian at level 1 and culminating with a Prismatic version of Azir at Level 28.

I still remember the old days where you either payed OR grinded for ingame rewards, not both.
Yeah. It’s a lot. IF you’re going to play that much anyway and if you’re willing to spend money on the game, then the pass is a no-brainer. The rewards are a better deal than any other way to spend money, even if you only care about a handful of the items you’re getting.
But if you’re not going to play that much otherwise, then the time cost is significant. I pushed to finish the Spirit Blossom festival last year, and I think that’s why I burned out on the game for a while. Right now I’m playing more than ever, so I think this will be a great festival for me. But if you don’t see me commenting on anything next month, you’ll know they drove me away again.
Cool rewards, I mostly care about cosmetics - prismatic chests / card backs / guardians / emotes / icons.
I would gladly switch wildcard rewards for cosmetics :P
Mmmm... I thought it also includes more chests or cards. I think I'm going to pass for the moment, not totally worth that 10dollars in my opinion.
If by "crosmatics" you mean prismatics then I have to disagree. It is very subjective what cosmetics somebody likes, personally I would like to get as much prismatic powder as possible in events.
I treat these events as a way to support devs, I don't have to buy wildcards at all, because I can earn every card for free - which is amazing compared to other card games. BTW for just 10$ you get so many things - emotes, guardians, card backs and more... Some people will never be satisfied.
They are very ugly and crappy cosmetics. And I don't care if you or anyone else like them. The problem is that they are clearly putting this type of content to fill and make you believe as a BUYER that it is worth spending the money because they offer you a lot of content.
It is something basic in marketing. In a short time they will remove emotes or guardians to add prismatics these crappy cosmetics.
Just like they did back in league of legends with loot boxes. That they began to fill them with guardian skins, crappy chromas, champion shards ... etc.
I'm very satisfied with what I received with event pass currently.
If they start adding useless / crappy stuff I just won't buy it anymore. I didn't but previous one, because I didn't like the k-pop theme at all for example.
I would say something simple in marketing is when people do not like something, they do not buy it - crappy cosmetics = no money for them. Unless of course only you find them crappy and other people like them.
Yes sorry, I forgot to mention that I'm playing more often LoR since January so right now my experience with card games is Hearthstone where usually you pay for more deck related content instead cosmetics when a new expansion launches. I thought it was a mini event you paid for having more card archetypes and not too much oriented on cosmetics. Having at least one copy of each new champion, a "wildcard" for a deck on the store, more chests... Something like this.
In fact right now with Tavern Pass you also have peaks where you are granted with free packs and currency and, of course, some extra yummy content that add an extra value if you buy it.
Not too much long, didn't read; I expected a Event Pass with more content instead cosmetics but this is an opinion I made based on my lack of experience with this new videogames meta called "Pay Pass".
After you've been playing for a while, you'll reach the end of the region rewards -- these basically give exactly what your talking about for free. :-P
I got 1 copy of Lissandra, Jarvan, and Kindred yesterday for 2000 XP/ea; working on LeBlanc right now. Also got 3x copies of Sun Disc for free. You can also choose to focus on a specific region to get more of the new non-champ cards from that region, but I've been jumping around because I want to try as much new stuff as I can.
All paid content in this game does not affect gameplay (there are no exclusive cards or anything like that)
If you want cards you can buy prebuild decks for 2K, personally I been playing for 4-5 months and I have 14 different meta decks without any need of paying + bunch of mats for crafting. LoR is really free to play with cosmetic microtransactions vs hearthstone which is oriented on gameplay "microtransactions". Just the wildcards that you will get would normally cost you 930 coins vs the price of this pass which is 975 coins. It's definitely a good deal if you want to spend some money on this game.
