Standard Packs and duplicate protection

Submitted 3 years, 2 months ago by

Hi everyone! Idk if there's another thread for this and because I couldnt find it, I will ask this anyways. Does standard packs have duplicate protection? because some people are telling me there is indeed, but when stormwind came out I opened 20 standard packs and the cards that came in the packs were from the previous sets, and yes, at the time I already had all the collection from standard past stormind.

It's supposed to, however a quick glance on google reveals that you're not the only one to have had problems at launch.

Whether or not it's been fixed by now, I cannot personally test until the next miniset comes out.

Assuming I understood you correctly, duplicate protection only applies when you do not own 2 copies each (1 for leg) of each card from a specific rarity. If you already own (or owned i.e you dusted previously owned cards), all cards of that rarity, you will get a random one (like the old system).

For example, If you already own all common cards from Barrens, when you open barrens pack, you will get duplicate commons.

In your case, since you said you own all cards in past sets in standard, it's expected you will get duplicates when you open a standard pack.

From personal experience, I can vouch for the duplicate protection. I have been tracking my pack openings since Ashes (start of dup protection), and I have not had a duplicate until I owned all the cards from that rarity.

But the thing is... That happened in stormwind release day, so...stormwind being in STANDARD, the STANDARD packs that I open has to contain stormwind cards, since I have all collection from other sets.

Have you opened Stormwind packs before opening the Standard packs? One possibility I'm thinking is you have already completed the rarity (i.e. commons) for stormwind so you got duplicates.

If not, then it may be a bug. But this hard to prove (to customer support) unless you have recorded your pack openings.

You try it out in the next it out expansion while recording your openings. Or even during the miniset if you don't intend to buy the miniset pack.

Perhaps is a bug indeed. First thing that I did when the stormwind came out was open the STANDARD packs, after this, stormwind packs

Can confirm this is not currently an issue, Standard Packs are only giving me the Stormwind miniset cards
