Alterac Valley Achievements

I haven't seen one of these yet, if it exists please point me to it. I rushed to diamond 5 before the expansion and now I'm trying to use this initial week or so to grind out some achievements before continuing my attempt at ladder climbing. While I don't expect achievement centered decks to be super competitive I do want to at least present a challenge while completing them. I'm not a great deck builder myself and have just been throwing a few pieces of class and neutral achievements into various 'good' decks and going from there. It has been a bit slower than I really wanted it to be and I'm hoping to find better ways to do this. Who is willing to share the decks they are using to get that bonus XP?

  • I actually wanted to make a thread in the next few days since I'm already done with most of them.

    A few things to note, there is a pretty substantial amount of bugged achievements right now.

    The one for Cariel's weapon just doesn't register at all.

    The one with Hollow abomination similarly doesn't work.

    The Bless one works...but also not. I managed to get a single game to count, but subsequent ones refused to register. I have no idea how that is even possible.

    The Yeti one requires you to use the LEgacy version of Chillwind Yeti and not the Core set version for some reason.

    The Rogue objective spell gave me brain cancer. Not because it's bugged but because it'S unbearably tedious.

      Did you try it as both an honorable kill off the battlecry and an honorable kill as an attack? Seems like maybe that could make a difference.

        Tried both because I had the same suspicion but still nothing. Also doesn't seem to be tied to what kind of legendary it is. Standard, Wild, Legacy, doesn't make a difference.

        The only positive thing I can say is that as long as you have broom and a bunch of damage dealing spells it's one of the most trivial achievements to complete since almost every deck in the meta runs at least one medium sized legendary.

        • I got the Hollow Abomination one yesterday when I used the Battlecry to kill an enemy's Bloodmage Thalnos. No issues on my end for that one.

            that is very interesting because I tried it again today and it still didn't work. Maybe it's coded to literally only work on minions with 1 base health? (which is still a bug then for obvious reasons).

            I'll try some Silas combo and see if it works (unfortunately I don't own Treachery so it might take a while to get it set up...).

            Either way there'S a lot of fuckery going on atm so it's best to figure out all the broken achievements and postpone them until the next patch.

            I can now confirm that killing an opposing Thalnos does indeed give the achievement which strenghtens the theory that it does indeed need to kill a legendary minion from full health to count for the achievement. While this is certainly a bug it can at least be worked around for now.

        This works brilliantly. I think the deathrattle proc'ed about 60 times times in a single game - seemed like it would go on forever, but it did eventually resolve rather than break the game with an infinite battlecry.

        EDIT: I should mention that I tried this twos ways - killing the Kobold Illusionist before dropping Spammy Arcanist (to spawn 1/1s that Spammy would kill for sure), and setting up the board to have the battlecry kill the original Kobold Illusionist (by ensuring there was a 1-Health and 2-Health minion on board to chain into the Illusionist). The former didn't work (which surprised me, since the chaining works fine otherwise), but the latter did twice. So, there's some amount of setup required to get Spammy to kill a played version of the Illusionist, but it worked like a charm otherwise.

          Tried it and can confirm that it works as well.

          You only really need to drop the illusionist to 1, because on death it'll just continue the chain from there. A handy backstab works wonders in this regard. Just need to make sure that illusionist is the one that gets summoned.

        You are my hero, thank you! I´ve done both achievements (all stages) in my first two games, amazing!

  • By the way guys I have found quite the...interesting development for the Bless achievement.

    So after multiple games of it not working for no particular reason I just finished a game where I buffed a Dirty Rat with (in that order) Focused Will, Power Word: Shield, Divine Spirit, Divine Spirit, Bless, Bless.

    Afterwards I checked my achievement and found....6 points of progress. So what happened? Obviously it counted something but clearly not anything involving Divine Spirit. It also can't be any of the regular health buffs since Will gives +3 health which would have left me with an odd number of progress. It similarly can't just be the buff applied by Bless itself because that would just be 4 points of progress.

    Does anybody have ideas what is happening here and how to properly exploit it?

      Beats me. Tried it multiple times without any ticks and I just gave up and call it a bug, one of numerous bugs currently existing.

      Casted bless on Northshire Cleric and got nothing. Casted it after a health buff, also nothing. Then casted it on opponent's minion for 1 additional attack, still nothing. At this point it might be that the achievement is either bugged, or it requires very specific cards/conditions for it to register at all. The fact that you got 6 ticks is amazing, but I cant replicate it (though I didn't use it on Dirty Rat, but that's taking loads of piss if that's the trigger)

      Played on wild. I shudder to think if this will only works in standard.

      that's wrong, dirty Rat is 2-6 , Bless buff heal by 2 ,  so it goes 2-8 , than transform to 8-8 and so it gets the +6

      This let me thing there is a possibility that is not coded as a sum ,  but a one time buff , i have to try ..

       

      edit: i managed to do 100/200 progress with a 131/131 minion ,  im pretty sure it was right since i have done some buffs with obelisk quest priest hp .

      • Okay, so the implication here is that the Gesundheit! achievement is currently only tracking the max value you've ever granted (in my case, 25 attack). Certainly seems like a bug (since the achievement text clearly reads "Give 200 Attack to minions with Bless."), but it's something that we can test further. Of course, it would be incredibly hard to get a minion up to 200+ health for this.

          Oh my god, I think you might be correct on that one. That would explain while I got progress a 2nd time but only to 44, because that's probably the size of my minion.

          Now while that's clearly not intended, is there a way to cheese this? Even if you get perfect RNG with Shadow Visions for 4x Divine Spirit you'd still need at least a 13 base health for it to work (and the achievement is basically impossible for anyone who doesn't have double Shadow Visions).

          • I just tried a game or two with a deck that also tries to cheese extra copies out of Test Subject, but it's honestly very hard to get all the pieces you need to do much of anything before you get wrecked in Wild.

              Let's just wait for the fix, it's clearly unintended, since the wording of the achievement specifies "minions" meaning it can't possibly refer to a single instance. Probably just some dumb coding error.

              • Yeah, it's probably not worth trying. But I did want to confirm it, and now I believe I have. I got a Deathlord up to 34/34, and now my progress is 32. So anyone trying to do this today has to do it all in one go on a single minion.

                • Just did it with Test Subject shenanigans. Got Baron Rivendare up to nearly 900 Health, then applied Bless. Finally completed the achievement.

                  Hopefully they fix it soon though because in its current state it's way more trouble than it's worth. Do not recommend.

          mb we can use more minions on single turn , like Djinni of Zephyrs or mb when we have an high hp minion copy with Faceless Manipulator and Bless both

          There are multiple ways , Test Subject copies like APM priest , card generating cards ( Sethekk Veilweaver , Lyra the Sunshard )with minion decresing mana ( multiple Radiant Elemental , Nazmani Bloodweaver ), 

          So the main problem of this achievement that was coded bad is to find the afk/rope bots on the worst ranks , but it's heroic achievement mode , when they fix we probabily say "why we did it ? "

  • The Chillwind Yeti bug makes it pretty clear that little to no manual testing goes into these achievements. I can imagine some poorly written unit tests that might exist and make it look like the code works as intended, but clearly no one ever bothered to try and do this achievement in Standard because you literally can't get the right version of Yeti in Standard.

    Regarding Bless, I've got a new wrinkle to add here. After reading all of this I thought I might test a hypothesis, so I played my first Bless Priest game (which happened to be in Wild). I thought maybe there was some bug resulting in bad integer division (e.g. if it were dividing by 5, let's say, then any buff lower than 5 Attack would count as 0, anything between 5 and 9 would count as 1, etc.). That sort of thing might account for why a huge buff was only counted as 6 points.

    However, my achievement worked exactly as it should have with the following plays: Kabal Talonpriest buff applied to a Northshire Cleric (both played in the same turn), then 2x Divine Spirit into Bless on the subsequent turn for a 26/26 Cleric. My achievement is now at 25/200.

      I genuinely think it has something to do with breaking after the first game. My first game went just fine too, progress counted perfectly, but afterwards no game counted properly

  • Maybe just me, But after trying a few games, I feel achievements becoming more and more grindier.

    250 hunter secrets, 300 mana Iceblood Tower, 300 damage Cariel Weapon, 200 Xyrella deathrattles are just a few examples.

    For some, it's fine, because Wild sets can help a lot. But Hero Card achievements are the worst. You only have 1 card, and it's not always gonna be playable in every single game.

    Probably just gonna wait until they fixed the bugs. It's amusing how they can't bring a fully function expansion after all this year.
