Can't win in Standard anymorr

Submitted 2 years, 10 months ago by

Ok I am not a good player per se. I play meme decks for achievements. But I can't win a single game at Bronce 8 and 3 stars! This is not normal.

Edit: no problems in Wild though. I get to at least platin whitout efford. Which is suffixient for me.

Should at least let us know what deck you're playing in standard.

If youre playing aggro/beast druid then you should have absolutely little problems getting a win percentage above 50%, especially in lower levels.

Admitably, Im getting a bit pissed facing druids right now because its impossible to guess whether its aggro or ramp druid and a wrong mulligan will be completely ruinous given how polar opposites both decks are. But its so far been an okay experience in standard.

Just play Quest Priest and hard mulligan for Pandaren Importer, Venomous Scorpid, and Thrive in the Shadows regardless of the matchup. Can't have a wrong keep when every card is a re-mulligan.

    Hmm. Turns out he's dead.

Control decks have this one easy. Just mulligan as though its aggro druid, because ramp druid can only ever win via yogg or a really, really bad draw from control decks. Quest priest has it easy against ramp druid that you dont even need to specifically mulligan for it. Its aggro druid that's the real threat here.

But for non control decks, this one is hard. Aggro druid can easily snowball from a bad mulligan while ramp druid has so much late game that you really cant let them ramp for free.

Do you have HSreplay installed? Sharing a game you lost might help.

I played eg. Beast Huntee 0/5, switched to Quest Shaman 0/3. Than I quit and created this thread. Than I made HS break until today. I won maybe a gane with Big DH. Have both VS druid decks hand have a personal wr of 30% with both

I played T2-T3 decks before and always had at least some success.

    It's so frustrating.

The opponents play with me. They know that they have won 10 turns before the end and give me a small hope just to see me drown.

This should not happen in Bronce. Opp should be as bad as I am and make at least some mistakes

I mean, no one's gonna be able to help you if you don't share any replays. The only general advice to give is to play the good decks, which agentmcr has already done.

I dont know how replay would help.Weeks ago I won, now I lose. How could you compare the replays if nothing changed?

The question is, why is wild working ( bigger mmr, also meme decks and more stars)?

Ok to resay it again: the questions what decks I play is irrelevant. I played different decks over different Metas since 2017. Every Meta was okay. My resultd in wild are okay. But my results in Standard are not. No Matter what deck play opp has the answer. And nuts hand. It seems like I am a noob playing against long Time Legend. Where as at wild where i have more Bonus stars the game looks fair.

    Alright I'll try again.

First off, what deck you play is extremely relevant. Not only are certain decks far harder to play optimally, even if they may not look like it at first glance, they may also be a poor matchup into whatever you're facing.

Second, this game, like most other card games, is still heavily rng and percentage dependant. Some days you will draw the worst possible cards and get screwed over by RNG. That happens to literally everyone. What matters is that you identify whether you played correctly, rather than giving up immediately just because you bricked or because your opponent drew the nuts.

Third, wild is definitely an easier format than standard. That most likely explains why you do better there. Not only are the good decks easier to play because their power levels are so high, you also face more casual players. There's no incentive for the best players to play the format, and decks are generally a lot less refined and optimal due to there being less meta reports and whatnot compared to standard.

This becomes even more apparent when you play meme decks/tier 3 and below decks. In standard, at decent mmr, the majority of decks will be refined and meme decks get punished far harder and more often by these decks.

So again, if you actually want to win more games in standard, and this isn't just some disguised salt thread, then people will only be able to help you if you share some replays, really.

I don't know it this helps, but I have noticed my winrate is significantly lower earlier in the seasons and on mondays. This is 100% my feeling, I haven't got any data on this. But I'm guessing that when a new season hits, and also when everyone gets a new weekly quest (win 5 games in ranked), more people plays stronger decks for an early climb and quest proc. It could also be that you face stronger players early in the seasons when everyone is back on the same levels.

It doesn't matter as much whether it's Bronze or higher levels, since the matchups are based on your internal MMR. So having a decent streak of wins over the past months or year would've contributed to getting better opponents.
Other than that, every meta is different. Some may have people play better decks on average and punish anything less polished, others a person just doesn't get a handle on or gels particularly well with. Even best players get several games loss streaks at times, ironically.

I don't know whether the decks you chose suit your playstyle/comfort levels and how much you know what to expect when facing what's currently popular on Standard ladder; both factors can contribute a lot for and against. The diversity is quite wide now. Knowing how to play and navigate some things in the past doesn't guarantee the same holding true just now.

I played with no Legend Budget decks and had a better winrate  than any current vicious syndicate tier2 decks. And I sucked last season!

edit: eg last deck. my opponents play cards nobody plays. I can't play around them. Like the Priest caravan. Opponent was dead, but he/she/it can expandable perforfancers out it 3 times, which was exactly one more than enough. Or some Druid whom I killed both 2/4 summon stuff agin which costs <2. He/she/it had a macigal 3rd one....

This was not supposed to be a salt thread, but I'm getting more and more salty.l The only reason to explain this, that HS Mathematics a right and HS is dying and I'm just facing pros. Noobs are gone.

There are so many things wrong with this statement, but honestly, I think my time would be wasted evaluating it for you. It is time to look at the man in the mirror.

I hate to tell you this, but it sounds like you are the kind of player who can only win when you know what you're up against. If the opponent runs weird cards or a completely off-meta deck, you don't know what to do. You're not alone -- there are plenty of players like you. But what this means is that you were 100% correct when you said you are not a good player.

You need to improve on the fundamentals. I recommend watching some people play Arena or watching an educational Arena basics video. The knowledge of tempo vs. value, making good trades, when to use your health as a resource -- all of this transfers to Standard, especially when you are facing decks you've never seen before.

Funfact: I play better if the opponent doesn't know the meta. Because I never take possible enemy actions into considerations. That's what keeping me from getting better btw.

But tell me this: why do I get low level players in wild with 8-9 stars bonus, but highlevel players in standard with 2 stars bonus if my mmr is so high?  edit: and in wild I beat people with legendary card back (so I can't be thaaaaaaat bad)

edit2: I'm only having problems in standard and I only have problems since Alterac Valley. My (low) skill has not changed, my (low tier) decks have not changed.

The game has been out since 2014, yes, you are most likely going to only face experienced players with very few new players coming in to the game now.

But doesn't your statement about people playing off meta cards that you aren't expecting show that not everyone is a pro as you claim?  Because a pro would be playing the best, fine tuned deck they could to reach as high of a ladder rank as they can.

Also, people playing off meta is a good thing for the health of the game, at least in my opinion.  Because it shows that at least some people are still willing to experiment and play their own stuff, and they must be able to get some wins with their off meta deck if they are playing an off meta deck.  50% or higher?  Maybe, maybe not.  But I feel like you're complaint with that statement was that not all of your opponents were net decking... That's very odd as usually the complaint is that everyone IS net decking!

Maybe I'm misunderstanding what you're trying to say too.  Not sure.

Quick!  Someone give me something clever to write here.

You do not seem to understand how star bonuses work. Your star bonus is based on your performance in the previous month, and it decreases each time you hit rank 5 or 10 of a given tier of the ladder. You have no way of knowing what kind of star bonus your opponent is getting. The stars you get have nothing to do with them. You will ALWAYS get more stars in bronze than at higher tiers, and you will ALWAYS start with more stars in the format where you climbed higher in the previous month.

But if you are proud of the fact that you "never take possible enemy actions into consideration," no one can help you improve.
