Why the 5 gold rewards?

Seriously, what am I supposed to do with 5 gold? I don't play arena too often, so when there's a promotion/free ticket event, I get in there. I always get a 25 or 35 gold reward, then that 5 gold just sits there staring at me, laughing because I can't spend it. Am I little over-annoyed by this? Oh yes, of course. No rational person would get so upset. Just finished my second arena run of the week, just hoping to get another 5 gold to balance it out. Nope. You know what? You can TAKE my 5 gold back! I'd rather LOSE 5 gold then continue being stuck with this stupid little hang-on that I can't use.

Anyone else feel at least a little bit like this? Or just tell me I'm nuts. That's fine too.

      Well technically the way this can be interpreted is: " there is no difference between 5 gold and 50 gold, because the 50 itself cannot be used to purchase anything." 

      Jokes aside, at the end of the day the only thing that matters is the cumulative amount of gold :)

  • I don't Arena specifically because of that 5 gold. It triggers my OCD I've no use for 5 gold, you can't do anything for 5 gold, and it pisses me off that I can't just delete.... 5 gold.

  • Welli personaly do not have  a Problem with the 5 Gold outcome - but i get what you mean - and sure they could "fix" this pretty easy but i guess its also some kind of way to entice you or others to play another arena run ... or at least People with OCD or anyone who can't stand the 5 G in the right bottom corner :)

      I wouldn't call this crying, it's something that can be improved upon. If there was something available to purchase that costed say 75G, then it would be fine to have rewards in multiples of 5. But since everything you can purchase with gold is in multiples of 10, getting a useless 5 gold is frustrating. I feel OP's pain and I have wished for years that Blizz would do away with the 5G rewards.

    It only bothers you because of how much you are letting yourself hate it. Just stop talking about it, stop making such a big deal about it, or any kind of deal about it. and it wont bother you anymore.

        I understand what OCD is. Most people who say they have OCD just mean they notice a detail and it annoys them. That is not OCD, that is being a normal person. I am sure there are some people playing hearthstone who have Obsessive-Compulsion Disorder. but most people who hate the 5 gold so much don't have OCD but are just making it more annoying for themselves by obsessing over it and buying arena runs just to get rid of it. 

        Most people would have the 5 gold bother them less if they would just stop obsessing over it so much. I am not saying this is true for everyone, but most people are just making this worse for themselves.

            fair point. 

            When I say "stop letting it bother you" I mean that if you dont make a big deal about it, you will find yourself less frustrated. If something is bothering you and you continue to talk and talk about it, you will 100% end up more frustrated with it than if you had just put up with it and move on.

            Well, advertisements on websites are annoying too, but doing same thing. Makes money for owners and that is also easy to handle. They can decide not putting them on their websites but they are putting those, aren't they?

            5 gold here is like an advertisement on the site. They will stay and will continue to annoy you because, as you can see here, people buys arena tickets with real money to get rid of it. So, the only constructive suggestion here is MalcolmReynold's suggestion which people can do themselves. Even some reward mechanic or tip suggestions might be reasonable, they are not realist suggestions. Don't fool yourselves, blizzard won't change this because people acts like they have OCD while they don't have and won't change this because people are crying on some fan forums. So the best suggestion is that. Don't care 5 gold. That's all. It makes your hearthstone life easier.

            Even you can try to not care little things irl too. It also makes your life easier.

  • I don't recall which user came up with idea (if it was you reading this, then good job!) but someone once suggested a good way to deal with the 5g AND to hopefully cut down on general BM was a "tipping" system. Basically at the end of a match you could "tip" your opponent 5g - for being a good player, being fun to play with, for NOT BMing like crazy, etc. I've always thought that was a good idea to kill those two birds with one stone, though I'm sure it will never happen since it would lead to a rash of account duping to "tip" all your clones' gold to your main, but still...

  • I too am neurotic like that. I would be overjoyed if blizzard eliminated 5 gold increments from the game because they don't do anything other than trigger people with OCD. It wouldn't even affect the balance of arena or w/e because you can get the same statistical spread of results with 10 gold increments instead of 5.

     

    I have bought arena tickets for no other purpose than to get rid of that 5 gold, I'm not even kidding. Conversely it's one of the reasons I stopped playing arena, as that is the primary cause of appendix gold to begin with.

  • Assuming your question wasn't rhethorical:

    It's because before the game was released you used to get 5 gold for every win. They later changed that to 10 gold per 3 wins, but they kept the increments of 5 for arena rewards.

    Instead of changing the rewards for arena I would suggest they change it back to 5 gold per win.

  • Yeah I screws up my OCD so I'm always forced to do another arena (or more) just to get rid of it, feelsbadman.

  • As the OP, I can only speak for myself of course, and not the bunch of you that agreed with me (thanks for that btw, really all I was looking for in the first place). I made the thread in the heat of having just concluded a run at 2-3, and not getting that 5 gold I was hoping for. It doesn't obsess me as much as I implied at the top, but I do think it's a silly mechanic that Blizzard could easily fix. When you look at all the free loot they've added in recent years (and yes, I know they've also increased the overall cost of keeping up with the game), it seems a small give to just round those suckers up. 

    To those of you naysayers on this thread: Does it really bug you that much that some of us get irritated by seemingly unimportant things? Perhaps we have more in common than you think...

  • Anyone with a balance ending with 5 should have 5 gold added.

    Arena rewards adjusted such that they cannot award the odd 5 gold amounts again.  Pretty easy fix.

  • I never understood the 5g either.

    i get they need to make money and thus make rewards small to Encourage players to pay for stuff but some of the rewards definitely need improvement

    On a more serious note, if you give in to this fact and "buy more", it means they managed to trick you into spending money for something useless. Not unlike most marketing companies do nowadays.

    Nevertheless, the reward system in HS is utter crap. Hopefully Blizzard will stop being a part of Activision at some point (and allow themselves to get bought by a more quality-oriented group). Until then... use your brains and stop paying for useless stuff.

  • I think they are just plain lazy. In this case, i dont even think its them being greedy not wanting to round up (or down i guess) the gold rewards. It would be very easy to do so.

    Maybe it is a calculated marketing strategy after all, since a lot of ppl get annoyed by it and they end up going to play arena until they get another 5g to round it up. And these ppl are usually not those who enjoy playing arena = they are arguably bad at it = they might possibly spend more resources to get rid of the 5g = they are not spending resources on packs = they might buy packs with IRL money, or even the arena entry = more profit for Bli$$ard. I know that this is taking it very far, but who knows.
