[PSA: Free Arena Ticket(s)] Hallow's End 2019

Submitted 5 years, 2 months ago by

Hallow's End 2019 begins at 10:00 AM PT on October 8 and runs until 9:00 AM PT on October 30!

The Dual-Class Arena Hallow’s End dress-up party is back! When you start an Arena run during the Doom in the Tomb event, you’ll choose a Hero, then a Hero Power, and card offerings will feature cards from BOTH of those classes, in addition to neutral cards.

  • To ensure that players have a chance to try out this devilish dual-class deck-building dress-up party, weeks 1 and 2 of this event will award Arena Tickets on login!

IMPORTANT: Players who have an active Arena run when this begins will have their current run ended and will receive an Arena Ticket as compensation.

  • Play out your run to x-2 (x wins and max. 2 losses) if you want more rewards from your run, or just leave it at 0-0 if you dont want to bother playing.
  • Friendly Neighborhood Gladiator: if you do plan on leaving your run at 0-0, might as well start two games and concede to two players, getting some positive karma :) You will get the identical rewards for 0-0 and 0-2 score.

So far, the announced sets for this event are:

  • Curse of Naxxramas
  • Goblins vs. Gnomes
  • Blackrock Mountain
  • The Grand Tournament
  • League of Explorers
  • Whispers of the Old Gods
  • One Night in Karazhan
  • Mean Streets of Gadgetzan
  • Journey to Un'Goro
  • Knights of the Frozen Throne
  • Kobolds & Catacombs

...meaning we might actually not have Basic and Classic sets included. Interesting.

FAQ

Q: When should I start my run to receive a free Arena Ticket for a retired run?

A: Ideally several hours before the event start/end, arena entries are generally closed few hours prior.

Q: Will I get another Arena Ticket, if I keep an active run before the event's end?

A: Yes.

Q: Do Arena Tickets stack?

A: Yes. (source)

Q: Do Arena Tickets expire?

A: No.

Q: Where are my rewards for the retired run? I opened my arena rewards but didn't get any pack or gold/dust.

A: This is a known bug, arena rewards are actually awarded to you once you finish your last game, before you open up the reward boxes. When an arena reset happens, it gets even more confusing because this happens on log in; sometimes you have to restart the game. People often see (1) pack in their inventory, don't think much about it, go open it and then go collect arena rewards only to find out they didn't get anything. But the fact is, that (1) pack on log in was actually the one from the arena rewards. Same with gold/dust, it was already added to your account even before you opened the arena rewards. You didn't lose anything.

As someone who does not play arena, can anyone who understands the mode more than I confirm:

It says "To ensure that players have a chance to try out this devilish dual-class deck-building dress-up party, weeks 1 and 2 of this event will award Arena Tickets on login!"

So is the proper way to do this: 1) Start a run today, leave @ 2 losses - 2) Get 1st free ticket tomorrow, leave @ 2 losses - 3) Get 2nd free ticket next week, play it out - 4) Play out the "comped" ticket for today's run whenever.

Is that the correct way to do this to maximize runs one only buying 1 ticket - 4 entries?

You’d only leave a run from today/early tomorrow at 2 losses, as you get your compensation ticket only when arena resets (so when rotation changes, or they decide to do dual class).

So the best way should just be starting a run today and leaving it at 2 losses, and getting an extra ticket from it tomorrow, then playing out that ticket and the free one. When you get week two’s free ticket, you leave that one at 2 losses for when dual class ends, since I believe the dual class arena ends after the three weeks are over

Who needs consistency when you could have fun?

I feel like I read somewhere that if you get over 7 wins you should play it out since the rewards are better than the cost of the new ticket? But again I don't play Arena so someone who knows better can confirm.

The only way you lose is if you don't draw Reno :)

I'd say go for it, that honestly sounds like a 12 win deck to me. Even if you lose, you can always just start another one and play that out while waiting for the event bcs FYI: 7+ wins will always give you back AT LEAST 150 gold!

This ain't no place for a hero

Definitely go for it! after you hit 7+ wins the reward is garuntee to be at least 150 gold. so complete this one then make a new one and end that run at 2 loses.

You absolutely should carry on. After 7 wins you're guaranteed enough gold for a new arena ticket anyway, but with each subsequent win the prize pool gets a lot more stacked.

At the very worst you go 10-3 and buy a new ticket and concede two games there.

You honestly dont even need to do that, if you dont need more SoU packs and want to get few more from the new expansion, since Arena Tickets dont expire, so:

    1. Start a run before the event begins and leave it at x-2 = 1st Arena Ticket (for 1st retired run).
    2. Log into the game during 1st week = 2nd Arena Ticket (free).
      • Redeem your rewards for retired run (see FAQ to not get confused about this part).
      • You now have 2 Arena Tickets saved up.
    3. Start a run and leave it at x-2.
      • This will cost you 1 Arena Ticket.
      • You now have 1 Arena Ticket saved up.
    4. Log into the game during 2nd week = 3rd Arena Ticket (free).
      • You now have 2 Arena Tickets saved up.
    5. Log into the game after the event = 4th Arena Ticket (for 2nd retired run)
      • Redeem your rewards for retired run.
      • You now have 3 Arena Tickets saved up.

If you want SoU packs (from rewards), feel free to use your Arena Tickets whenever, before the new expansion launches.

If you want 3 extra packs from the new expansion, save your Arena Tickets for now and use them when the new expansion launches.

Hope that was clear enough lol :) Keep in mind, you might need to restart the game to trigger some steps, especially the first log in when the event starts, it might bug out and show you only one of the tickets etc. Always restart the game if you think ur missing some rewards and only then freak out :) But i never had any problems in all these years.

Definitely worth playing out, especially if you think you have a strong deck. You can always start a run and leave it at 0-0 / 0-2. Not even a question for someone who plays arena regularly, just play out your run, dont worry about it and just start the new one in time.

Thx again to the team for the reminder. I´d be even more thankful for another advice on the crafting.

As I very seldom play Arena, what´s the favoured classes atm and which are the most op cards to pick?

Been awhile since I’ve last checked out which classes were good for it, but in general tempo is the way to go. Try to make sure you have a somewhat consistent curve and stick on the board, and that can be enough to get you a few wins.

Can use Heartharena to help out with making your deck, since most of the time it knows best.

Do note though, since rotation’s changing, that’ll also change which classes are good, so keep that in mind

This will be very hard to say once the event begins because:

    • Dual class arena
    • Probably no Basic + Classic set

Things will get very interesting, when the classes lose access to their basic tools that gave them the foundation every time. For the first few days, possibly longer, it will just be one huge experiment to try and find what works. And it might not work for long, if ppl would keep experimenting and what works would shift.

That being said, i would imagine that going for a tempo deck with solid early curve, if you can get it, should still be a good allround option.
