Advertisements?

As of today, I have started seeing an Ad at the top of the screen whenever I open a new page. I hope this will not be a regular thing moving forward, I don't want this site to be infested with ads.
This is especially annoying since we have all the DoD cards, and all of the decks above the news and threads, so there is a sufficient amount of scrolling before I can get to what I want to see. I know this site needs to make money, but I thought we were going to be funded only by the community to avoid having ads.

I ain't see no ads.
I don't like ads ofc, but i can understand.
My real hope is that these new ads don't become as visually invasive and technically crippling as they were on HP.
That would be truly unbearable.
While I agree ads suck, and I wanted to see how long we could go without them, at the end of the day, we did not receive the financial support from the community that is required to even pay for just the server bills. People gotta eat, we gotta keep the servers on, and so ads are now a thing.
If you want to remove ads, you can support the site with a monthly contribution via Patreon. After contributing, you can link your OOC account to your Patreon account via account connect in account management and within 10 minutes you should be recognized as a site supporter.
If you can figure out a way we can support the site and the content creators on it without ads, I'm all ears. So far though, only 41 people are supporting us on Patreon despite hundreds of thousands of visitors each month.
With all that said though, the goal is to keep the ads as sane as possible. We already have a large amount of stuff blocked that could be making us more money, but I'm not okay with people get scammed. Our page load speeds still remain several times faster than HearthPwn too, so ads haven't had a huge negative effect on that.
And if you really want to, feel free to install an adblocker. If you do go this route, we'd love it if you would participate in the community as a way of giving back to it and if you see good deck guides, show authors support by giving them upvotes!

Yeah there’s suddenly a bunch of ads popping up on the site, one across the top of the screen, and then an ad in the space of every 3rd news post.
Who needs consistency when you could have fun?
Yep, noticed it too. The one in Chrome on mobile is a bit pain. Time to support on Patreon I guess:)
I do what I must, when I must. Know this well.
Thanks for the support

Thanks for great site, Flux. Considering how much time I spend here, I should have done this months ago.

I have nothing against ads when they are not taking too much (1/2 or more) screen space. But currently full screen of ads with ”outof.cards” at the bottom of my screen is not very nice when on mobile. Browsing with computer is not that bad
Yup, i also wanted to point out mobile perspective (which is my only HS-related perspective).
Sometimes full-screen ads appear when clicking on a link (requires to click on the X to continue browsing, not a scam, but still an intermediate ad page).
And just recently the top ad in every page started to occupy about half height (requiring the user to scroll down much further to reach content).
As i said, i do understand the need of ads, not complaining here, but please do consider the limitations of mobile browsing, if possible ofc.
This is worse than Hearthpwn
Thanks for the feedback, Raven

This is a very helpful comment.
Also, there is zero chance that is even possible. I feel beyond insulted that someone would say that sentence on this website. I don't think people really grasp how shit HearthPwn has always been.
You know what though, if you like it so much, you're more than welcome to spent time on their site instead of here. Enjoy the constant malware, at least twice as long load times, and a bunch of people that clearly don't know what they are doing.

Just wanted to say that on mobile, the top ad can be collapsed, so it’s not that bad.
If I’m already talking about it, just wanted to congratulate you guys for keeping the ad experience as manageable as possible. I totally understand that ads are necessary to keep the site afloat, and I really appreciate your efforts to keep it from bothering users. I’d personally have no problem with you implementing more ads, so long as it’s as manageable as it is now
Make The Cow King an alternate Warrior skin plz
You are welcome to leave any time you like, please take all your salt with you.
@Fluxflashor, Thank you, and all the mods for this wonderful site. I understand that ads can be necessary, and I am more than willing to put up with them if it keeps this site up and running. I would be willing to become a patron but unfortunately I am poor.

I use the site 95% on PC, so the ads, the way they are displayed nowadays, are not a problem for me. Of course if they are a problem for mobile users, that has to be fixed.
BTW I don't think anybody thinks Hearthp## is better than OOC, probably the sentence meant thay some people are experiencing worse problems with ads in mobile when visiting OOC than visiting Hearthp##, and that should be easy to fix.
The pleasure is mine.
My last standard decks: nothing special right now.
Which also can't be the case in any way. HearthPwn had some of the worst ads I've ever experienced online. It was soul-crushing to not being able to do anything about it =(
Thanks everyone!

So I made post about this a couple days ago without knowing about this thread. I have supported OOC with Patreion since its founding (a measly $2/mo) and glad I do. Nice to be able to block adds without the software.
I may not have learned to link accts without this thread so I hope its well known for others.
My issue with them is that when I try to go to the second page for a thread, an ad pops up that blocks the whole screen.
While I do understand ads, them blocking the content is not something I agree with.
I'm on mobile.
Hey, I'm using this site on mobile only and obviously don't like full screen ads. I'm OK with small ads and even click on them sometimes. I don't want to pay monthly but if there is an option, for example, to pay you 24 usd once (the same as the cheapest yearly subscription) and get rid of full screen adverts I would say - take my money. PayPal - ideally.
I've gone ahead and disabled all of these. They weren't significant amounts of our ad-revenue so it shouldn't hurt us too much =)
Thanks for the feedback!

Hi Foma,
I agree. A yearly subscription (or one-time payment) would be ideal especially since we could offer a nice discount due to there being fewer fees involved. There's a lot that goes into supporting such a thing though and it isn't something I can commit to right now for the site. I'm hoping in the new year we can offer some additional payment options and more perks for our supporters

Hey Kaptain!
I think you may have subscribed before we had the automated Patreon message that tells new patrons how to link their accounts. Sorry about that!

I am going to resurrect this thread because I have just found ads in the middle of threads and in between comments and I think this is too much. At the top of the page it is fine, in between the brawl, recent threads, and deck discussion is fine, but when you are in the middle of reading a thread and you see an ad in between every third post it is just too much.
Please remove these ads, or find somewhere else to put them.
*edit* Please please please this is unbearable.
