Legends of the Hearth - Mini Set (Updated 2/12/20)

Hey, working on this mini set of legendaries based on characters from the animated shorts. It's a set about Hearthstone itself, about cards and packs and card sets. I'm trying to use art that includes hearthstone cards in the image. I imagine this as some kind of promo-set, maybe for an event or giveaway. Check it out!

Ava creates a pack from the latest standard expansion set (currently Descent of Dragons). Whizbang creates a pack from a random set in Wild (currently any set from Goblins vs Gnomes through Kobolds and Catacombs).

  • Even if it were just for a limited time event, adding cards with these characters would be sweet.  Love the pack shuffling, especially the Wild Pack idea.

      • I really like the idea of having a few small ways to bring Wild cards into the Standard format from time to time.  I made this as a custom card a while back.  Part of a competition on the old site that was about bringing in old mechanics like we were going to see over the course of the Year of the Dragon.  I'm actually a little upset we got no new Inspire cards during the year.  But I guess we got Phase Stalker... which is Inspire without the Keyword.

            True... why use keywords when you can add extra text, right?

  • I think too many of such effect is bad for the game since then you can easily get card advantage.. with elise it was ONE card here we have 3 cards that do that, think it's too much for the game, and makes them auto include in any value deck, specially the one that costs 1 mana..

    Now design problems of the other cards:

    Sarge- stealth and card draw of cards that didn't start in your deck is the rogue identity! besides it's useless outside of specifically packs.. or Dire Frenzy.

    Burpo- I like it, very flavorful.

    Alonsus- seems alright actually, goes well with shuffling cards into your deck something another archbishop did before.. maybe costs too little?

    Russel- I don't like it, it gives you VERY powerful cards specially if Leeroy Jenkins gets HOFed now..

    Malto- it's really really slow so if you OTK someone with it because you opened 2 packs.. so be it.. this card is VERY bad outside of a combo finisher, you need 2 discounts for this to be good. suggestion: have him have better stats around.. 4 hp is much better.

    Pack slamming urk- I think he is underpowered, too useless without the packs.

    Big lou- probably on point.. since discover only works in your class and neutrals this card is actually fine.

    Velaris- I really like the design of this card.

    Elise- has too low stats.. also is very P2W in terms of what it draws.

  • Thanks for the detailed feedback. I actually doubt you'd want to run more than 1 pack creation card in a deck. Even highlander decks don't need that much value, and might opt for Archivist Elysiana instead. Ava is obviously the best, but I think it'd be a nice way to force the current expansion into the spotlight, especially for underused cards in that set. Still, I might increase her mana.

    Sarge: I was thinking that 'weird card draw' is a hunter identity. Rogues get good card draw, hunters get card draw with weird strings attached, like waiting a turn. But I did specifically model this card off Shaku.

    Alonsus, I might increase the cost, but It needs to be competitive with something like Greater Healing Potion, 4 mana heal 12.

    Russel- Hall of Fame cards are actually quite bad on average when randomly generated. Genn Greymane, Baku,  all the even/odd cards, Conceal, Ice Lance, Molten Giant, Captains Parrot. I count 24 hall of fame cards with only 7 good ones: Naturalize, Iceblock, Divine Favor, Mindblast, Vannish, Sylvanas and Ragnaros. Even if some good cards like Leeroy are added, there's still a lot of mediocre or situational stuff.

    Malto, not great I realize. I might go back to the drawing board entirely on this effect. It's an overly complicated Evolved Kobold.

    Pack Slammin Urk- I actually think this might be OP. 8 Mana and you're probably going to deal 20+ damage to the board and Urk survives. I was considering a higher cost.

    Elise: also might revist this concept and try somethign entirely new. Too similar to Velaris. As for stats, it's the stats on the original elise. So I think she should be 3/5 or 5/5 like the later two elise cards.

  • Hey updated the cards. Reworked some, replaced some characters. Let me know what you think. Anyone have good fanart of whizbang? couldn't find any.
