I'm not sure about this whole Abyssal Curse thing, but the more generators, the better for stacking up damage. I guess we'll have to see if it's enough.
Only reason I can see this is better than Elven Archer is because of the pirate tribe. And I guess it might do 4 face damage as opposed to 2 if played on turn 1 going first, if the opponent can't ping it next turn. Still dies to everything though.
There doesn't seem to be anything that specifically puts pirates in the bottom of your deck, but if you have enough pirates in your deck, odds are at least one of the three cards at the bottom will be a pirate, and with the buff to both the weapon and the minion, this should be really good.
I wonder if this will make Smokescreen worth running in a deck. I'm not seeing a lot of Rogue deathrattle minions, but 4 mana draw 5 plus a 2/2 body is probably pretty good on its own.
Oh yeah, finishing the Monster Hunt with Toki was really tricky...the prevailing advice at the time was to double down on an RNG strategy and let the chips fall where they may, which was really tough as expected. Congrats, dude!
My assumption is they've looked at the whole upcoming year to make those adjustments. No point in unnerfing something if they have to nerf it again in 4 or 8 months.
the philosophy is simple, revert cards that would make wild more fun, don't revert cards that would make wild less fun that is obviously a subjective thought, but that is the goal
Well, Metamorphosis and Warglaives of Azzinoth are still currently nerfed, and quite frankly would be unplayable in both wild and standard even if they were reverted. And yet for some reason we're seeing Kael'thas Sunstrider unnerfed. You can make a case for metamorphosis but certainly not warglaives.
As for the price of a diamond card, Im genuinely curious to know the buy rates. Because we're not buying a legendary card here, that's the price of a skin. Hopefully the rates are low enough so blizz dont start getting stupid ideas.
I guess it's time for me to finish the rest of the books. Plus, it helps me getting cards from new expansions later if I keep it. Especially the golden one.
If I'm being completely honest, I'm not sure what I think of the "wild only set" idea. Only because Wild is already a pretty powerful place. To make an expansion that is Wild Only, even if only some of the cards are actually new, they'd have to make them pretty powerful to see play in Wild. So with that in mind... why not just do normal, Standard sets like they do now? The handful of powerful cards that are either very strong on their own or boost existing Wild archetypes are kind of like the smaller set they would otherwise be making for Wild only anyway. The main difference I guess being that in a Wild Only set where only some of the cards are actually new, it'd be easier for Wild players who already have most or all of the older cards in that set to open packs and only get the new cards.
Ultimately I guess I'd have to see what they come up with.
Another idea could be adding a mini-set to each set that is pre-Outlands. Do two class cards for the original 9, four cards for DH, and then some neutrals. Then if you want them, buy some of the old packs or craft the card(s) you want!
Those arguments about the holy cards give me a bad "circular logic" vibe :
There's currently no good holy decklist -> Therefore its not worth giving those new holy spell a thought -> Therefore none will be given -> Therefore no good holy decklist will emerge -> Therefore its not worth giving those new holy spell a thought -> [Rince and repeat]
It's not the most constructive line of reasoning :-/
I've always wanted to dive into this as a topic. My memory could be bad considering it's only been a million years since Hearthstone came out, but I remember them printing such varied strategies for each class every set and there were definitely cards that didn't look like they fit anywhere but then they did.
It feels like to me Hearthstone just doesn't have much of that anymore. They print tools for the 1 or 2 archetypes they want to establish for that year and then leave it at that. Granted, it would take an entire year to make things feel right by printing varied things (you'd need the next rotation to hit to properly fix that). I think the biggest problem there is that the power level can become less predictable when you no longer have your sights on 1 or 2 goals.
I finally managed to get this ridiculous achievement done and also the Vanessa VanCleef achievement using the strategy of queuing into my F2P account in Duels after the rating reset. These two achievements will torture me no longer. I was seriously contemplating to drop Hearthstone altogether because of the absurd RNG difficulty and related frustration.
I agree. While I do not think they will meta-breaking or even great, from the little I saw of them on stream yesterday there is definitely potential for a fun archetype there. I’m currently trying to think up a Wild version that makes use of the curse package as well as the sheer stupidity of Hakkar, the Soulflayer and [Hearthstone Card (Tamsin’s Phylactery) Not Found] as a “why the hell not” inclusion.
New Warrior Spell - From the Depths
Some nice cost reduction, of course, all but one are still stuck at the bottom of your deck.
New Warlock Minion - Sira'kess Cultist
Still not sure about these Abyssal Curses, but probably what it needs is a variety of generators, and hey, here's another.
New Warlock Spell - Dragged Below
I'm not sure about this whole Abyssal Curse thing, but the more generators, the better for stacking up damage. I guess we'll have to see if it's enough.
New Warlock Spell - Rock Bottom
Looks like a very good card in Muloc Warlock, where you should be able to find another murloc to dredge without too many problems.
New Warlock Minion - Voidgill
If there was any doubt about Murloc Warlock being a real deck before, I think it can safely be laid to rest.
New Shaman Minion - Anchored Totem
I forget, are the basic totems 1-cost? If so nice. Piranha Swarmers are 1-cost, so this will make them even scarier.
New Rogue Minion - Filletfighter
Only reason I can see this is better than Elven Archer is because of the pirate tribe. And I guess it might do 4 face damage as opposed to 2 if played on turn 1 going first, if the opponent can't ping it next turn. Still dies to everything though.
New Rogue Spell - Blood in the Water
Is 6 mana for 8 damage good? Maybe. A bit expensive for a Rogue spell, but there's also Swiftscale Trickster.
New Rogue Spell - Gone Fishin'
Always nice to be able to draw the card you just dredged, and Rogue shouldn't be lacking in cheap combo enablers.
New Rogue Weapon - Swordfish
There doesn't seem to be anything that specifically puts pirates in the bottom of your deck, but if you have enough pirates in your deck, odds are at least one of the three cards at the bottom will be a pirate, and with the buff to both the weapon and the minion, this should be really good.

I think what Dean is talking about is more of a "Getting Started with Wild" bundle.

I don’t care how awful it’s going to be, I’m ready to mess around with curses in the most DOT-y deck possible alongside Hakkar, the Soulflayer.
