Mad Scientist is the MVP in my heart. I've had him in uncountable Secret Mage's seasons and in a lot of Hunters. Hyena should have an extra point for getting and surviving in Battlegrounds!
That might very well be it. I think I did enter the previous 2 boss fights with a Beast already dead I think. Most of the times I do not even read which attack the enemy mercenaries are using and usually just hit specific opposing mercenaries to get critical hits. I will try to be a bit more careful/efficient to get the remaining Chi-Ji tasks done, lest I do not have to redo the whole climb afterwards.
As far as we know, it should be just that you enter the boss fight with 3 Beasts alive. If one has died to normal encounters during your climb there, that's why it wouldn't have triggered.
Thanks, I was already using that exact same Nature team and my last attempt succeeded. Still not sure what prevented the trigger in the past, but this time around all 3 beasts remained alive and I really made sure (by keeping track) that no coins whatsoever were picked up except for spirit healer.
And I think this answers Basil's question about why there is a finalist vote to begin with.
No, not really. Of course downvoting your competition is a problem and risk, but there is no real way to combat that maybe outside a mod manually checking the votes to see if anyone was unfair.
My gripe with finalist stage is, again, abysmal number of votes compared to the main voting stage. This comp we had 17-34 votes per card in the main stage, and only 12 in finalists. In Make your own Luck it was 23-38 to 14. In Goons of Galakeond we had 15-37 votes to 14-17 in finals. Trend is consistent, about half of people who are interested in this thing dont partake in the most important moment of the comp. That makes finalist votes be much more biased due to a low number of votes.
A trend to notice when seeing the reports is also that the top finishers in the voting phase is almost always those with fewer votes received. It shows that as more people vote, the "fairer" your card is judged and more it drags towards 2.5 ish score. While top of the scoreboard is those with fewer votes, but if those fewer votes they have higher score ones. Basically, post late and hope the few people that see it like it a lot.
The only reason for the finalist stage that I can see is to avoid last minute posts and this luck I explained. But instead of a finalist stage we could just extend the voting only stage to 1 more day.
My proposal which i believe is most fair is to not allow voting at all in the submission stage! Instead 5 days we submit and they are hidden, then 2 days for voting where all are revealed at the same time. Perhaps post it on the main Hearthstone news page when that happens to attract more people into this thing, because let's be honest here, it's just the same 15ish guys over and over. A bit of publicity wouldn't hurt. And I don't believe the argument that "people dont wanna see custom content" is good, as we have a post comp summary where we announce the winner!
Who knows, its might just be another bug, like task 4's buggering requirements.
Maybe try with all six being beasts? It could also be that the game scans the final result and turns out that you need 3 beasts to stay alive on winning for this to trigger.
Task 6: Complete Heroic Ivus with at least 3 Beasts in Alterac Valley does not trigger for me, I already completed it 2 times. Could it perhaps be that all 3 beasts need to live at the end of the climb?
During both tries, 1 beast died, but I have never seen this kind of requirement in this game mode.
One of the best aspects of Hearthstone is that the game is easy to learn, it's nested in a firm set of rules. Over time, Blizzard has slowly but steadily eroded some of those though:
- Genn & Baku and the Highlander cards completely altered our perception of deckbuilding
- Dual class cards mingled stuff that was strictly seperated
- Silas Darkmoon allows you to influence the board state
- Quest(line)s always start in your hand
- Sigils and the Alterac cards with an ongoing effect trigger on future turns
- there are several tech cards that negate or hinder key effects of your opponent's cards (like Counterspell and Loatheb, Nerub'ar Weblord and Boompistol Bully, various forms of Silence and so on and so forth)
I guess designs like those are necessary to keep the game fresh and exciting, but the range of possibilities is finite and it makes me wonder what comes up next. Decks with 40 cards? A new card type? The long discussed graveyard? 15 Mana cards for Druid?
Whatever it may be, it feels like the devs have raised their speed when it comes to introducing new stuff that breaks the formerly known rules. Wildheart Guff, Curse of Agony and the ongoing effect cards were all new stuff introduced in the last expansion. While I'm all in for exciting cards and interesting design, they long term alter the game as we know it and sometimes limit design space in a significant way.
Personally, I'd like to see more cards that reward catering to deckbuilding restrictions like Genn & Baku, the Highlander cards and Darkbishop Benedictus. They are challenging but also very rewarding and we haven't fully explored much of the possibilities yet. On the other hand, I'm skeptical about increasing ressources like Mana Crystals, hand space and life total because it speeds up the power creep significantly. Maybe I'm just nostalgic but I like that I more or less know what to expect from a game of Hearthstone.
All that said, I'm curious to hear your thoughts about the slow but steady eroding of the red lines in HS. Which rule do you want to see broken next? What new design makes you feel concerned?
So I finally complete task 4, and I can confirm that if you;
- Took no boon coins; spirit coins are okay
- and took no potatos. To be frank, I'd skip them altogether, because you want to face the bosses with all mercs having a passive.
You can then complete this task when you finally beat this fking boss with only casters. Because nothing is more grating than beating this thing and then finding out that you're screwed because of a bug
Here's a few tips for those trying. I did it with shadow/holy team
- Choose the helmet whenever you can
- Always beat the heroic mercs whenever you can, because the treasures here are invaluable
- Always position those with helmets or higher health merc on the sides.
- And above all; start by sniping the middle boss (the one with 150 health) because he deals a ton of damage and the side bosses are much more easier to manage.
One frustrating time to be sure. And Im not entirely certain you can do this with only rare mercs. Wont be too surprise if team5 eventually nerfs this task because its a massive gatekeeper against casuals.
Yeah, it's pretty awkward. Looking through the many synonyms of 'attack', I'm surprised at how few could be viable alternatives for fairly non-specific physical attacks. 'Strike' would be a decent alternative, but that's about it, and even that can be synonymous with spell attacks.
You can use 'ability' most of the time. Context will normally make it clear whether it is a damage dealing one or (in Pokemon terminology) a 'status move'.
I think, for me, the ideal number of finalists would be about 4 or 5, but I agree setting a percentage is also a good idea. Granted it comes with a set minimum of 3 spots. 25-30% sounds good.
Admittedly I have not quite got there yet, so I was just parroting what looked to be the solution others had said since your comment, and was also consistent with my understanding of usual task 'rules'.
I'll happily admit my mistake if Chi-Ji isn't the required part of it. Heck, if Chi-Ji isn't needed, I'll even argue further against Blizz and their dumb use of "complete" if it isn't even consistent!
The slow but steady eroding of the red lines in HS
Void Contract destroys decks, too (half of each)
Also, there are more subtle deckbuilding altering cards like Kazakusan, Kazakus, Golem Shaper, Prince Keleseth, Prince Taldaram, Prince Valanar, Drek'Thar or Vanndar Stormpike. All mage or hunter cards which work only if your deck contains spells only (Font of Power, Apexis Blast, To My Side!, Rhok'delar).
Lord Jaraxxus used to set your life to 15.
Also, Transfer Student cares for board.

So technically you can have a bench of 3 beasts while piloting a non-beast team to victory and it'll still trigger?

I used Malfurion+Brukan+Anacondra and 3 beasts that I have not max'ed.
Unfortunately I cant remember exactly, but I think one of my beasts died early in the run. but not sure tho.
Just use the 3 mercs I said above, and try to pick all nature+damage treasures. brukan's double ability 1 treasure is also very very good.
with all that, I have not experienced any problems. best of luck to you

One of the best aspects of Hearthstone is that the game is easy to learn, it's nested in a firm set of rules. Over time, Blizzard has slowly but steadily eroded some of those though:
- Ice Block negates lethal
- Amara, Warden of Hope raises your life total beyond 30
- Valdris Felgorge allows you to hold more than 10 cards
- Tickatus and Gnomeferatu destroy cards, Rin, the First Disciple even your opponent's whole deck
- Wildheart Guff allows you to gain more than 10 Mana Crystals
- Blastcrystal Potion destroys Mana Crystals
- Genn & Baku and the Highlander cards completely altered our perception of deckbuilding
