Yes, and I attempted to allude to that by calling out the piloting difficulties - I suppose I could have been more straightforward. To be clear, I'm not saying I expect it to be high on the list. I'm just surprised it doesn't make any appearance because it's a counter to two very popular decks that are on the list.
The way I would design a reworked Darius is that I would make him a 5 mana 5/4 overwhelm with. Whenever I see you dealing damage to the enemy nexus I get 1 stack of noxian might. I have +1 power for every stack of noxian might.
It's interesting to me that the D6 version of Questlock isn't on that list somewhere. I know it's a lot harder to pilot than other versions, but if we're assuming top 1% MMR players then it stands to reason that wouldn't be a major factor, and a lot of streamers have highlighted it as one of the most powerful decks in the metagame. It's also called out as a very popular version of Questlock at high legend play (based on the latest Vicious Syndicate report)
A tip for Instant Gratification: Draw the Purified Shard the same turn you shuffle it into your deck...
Use the same setup, complete the quest then next turn play xyrella, polkeit, and then instead of of the other suggestions it's pretty easy to coin and use any tradeable card. Including Mailbox Dancer in your deck to help hit the quest and the general achievement can guarantee a coin in hand for each game
I believe we were told at one point that the BG overhaul would come before Mercenaries, and that appears to be the case. The blue post at the top suggests that the BG overhaul will happen in September, quite possibly very soon into the month, as the "Later Sept: Decided changes go live (BGs included)" would be to address the overhaul.
Don't give yourself any false hope, the comment of the dev team made clear that they don't intend to rework the old champions is any foreseeable future.
I've played a few games with a Questline Paladin with Lady Prestor, similar to this deck by FunkiMonki, but with some different cards so it's more likely to complete the quest on turn 5 (but less likely to draw Lady Prestor). The dragons give you just a bit of extra reach after completing the questline.
With the questline in it, it's not a pure budget deck, but if you happen to have that card, the rest of the deck is cheap. I think the only other expensive card I'm running is Oh My Yogg!, but that can be swapped out without too much consequences.
Maybe it would be interesting to do a series of almost-budget decks where the only expensive card is the questline? Probably a lot of players got at least one questline from packs or track rewards.
Demon Hunter has a lot of flexibility in how you build a questline deck, since their card draw is cheap and the rewards are good on any card.
Druid's quest support cards are cheap, although I'm not sure what the other half of the deck would be.
Mage would miss Ignite; while it is a good card I don't think its absence would ruin the deck.
Paladin is certainly possible, as discussed above.
Priest has plenty of options to build the deck. While High Abbess Alura seems to be the most popular tutor for the reward, Cleric of An'she is also an option and allows you to play two spells in the deck itself.
Rogue has lists without Tenwu, but I don't know if Secret Passage is replaceable: I don't have this questline myself and I haven't seen it been played much.
Shaman would have to replace Instructor Fireheart; since that's not a card you're guaranteed to draw every match anyway, I don't think that should break the deck.
Warlock would be a bit of a puzzle, but I think it has enough flexibility that something is possible.
Yesterday i made a big push from Gold 4 towards Platinum 4 rank without bonus stars using Libram Paladin. Surprisingly, my pocket meta didn't feel as awful as in other days. It seems like people are quite sick of the quests in lower ranks and different decks popped up frequently. I only faced two Quest Warlocks (beat one and lost to the other one) and a few Quest Mages. Mage feels worse to lose against. They deal too much damage from hand and draw a lot faster, usually. But their curve is slightly messed up now which makes them a bit slower. I beat quite a few of them but the ones i lost to managed to kill me from near full health every time.
The other Quest decks are very rare. Quest Shaman pops up here and there and it is very strong. I didn't face any yesterday though. Quest Warrior is too slow even with a lot of pirates and a lower mana curve. Quest Hunter can race quite effectively but they run out of cards every single time. Quest Priest just sucks. Quest DH suffered the most from the latest balance patch and is pretty much dead. Rogue, Druid and Paladin quests disappeared completely.
I don't know what you think, but in this case overhaul means that every tribe gets reworked in order to have a more distinct direction. They already followed this philoshopy with elementals (gain a bonus for each time you play another elemental) and quillboars(generate blood gems and gain a bonus for spending them) for example. The older tribes however don't have that. Dragons are currently the best examples here. There are cards like:
Red Whelp, Cobalt Scalebane and Razorgore who gain a automatic bonus at the start/end of turn
Glyph Guardian, Waxrider Togwaggle and Heral of Flame who gain a bonus for killing stuff
Bronze Warden, Drakonid enforcer and Nadina the red for divine shield synergy
Aswell as a bunch of cards with unique abilities without being build around cards like:
Steward of Time (Selling), Hangry Dragon (winning rounds), Murazond (enemy warband)
The overhaul would presumably nail it down to one or at most two different mechanics.
I've finally succumbed and played some games with Wild Seedlock, fatigue version. I feel dirty, but I want to get Tamsin's achievement before the next round of nerfs hits and maybe I have to take the deck to next Saturday's tournament if I want to have a chance at winning.
I think they really should rework Darius to do something more interesting.. and fit mroe with his league counterpart.. maybe every time he kills a unit he gets a free attack?(his ult reset mechanic)... dunno Darius feels like a champion that is just really easy to powercreep I think he needs to be more unique to actually be considered a real champion card..
The Mage quest is on the same toxic level as Warlock, it blocks any minion based strategies. Everything is here what makes gameplay against the deck feeling awful -
massive mana cheat
solitaire game mode with board interaction
plentiful freeze effects on enemy minions
massive card draw
soliaire mode
I just played a game against Warlock where it felt like I play regular HS against a late level duels deck.
On turn 6 finished quest, on turn 7 played the reward, on turn 8 the mage killed me dealing 27 damage from hand, drawing 12 cards from the deck and playing cards worth 28 mana in total. On turn 8.

I never believed all the comments about Rogue being trash-tier. It's nice to see some data confirming my suspicions.

the Vicious Syndicate report clearly states that the deck isn't actually very good and only really performs at the very top of Legend.
The data here includes the 1%, which is far from top Legend.

[Wild] Legend Quest-Warlock
you‘ll need to find the perfect moment to play the weapon. it‘s not that slow because of the the mana reduction you‘ll get.
i‘m playing another quest warlock right now with this weapon and a big mill package (hand of gul‘dan). works pretty well even in legend ranks.
feel free to find another option ;)
loatheb and giant won so many matchups for me :) brittlebone is perfect for enemy giants.
have fun, wish you luck!
