  • The Price Of Progress - Card Design Competition Discussion Thread

    Further feedback.

I think you forgot to change the watermark on Gruul because he still has the Classic one meaning he would technically exist in the same set as regular Gruul. Speaking of regular Gruul, I think it is a little bit off-putting that this card is a 1/1 whereas the original card in a 7/7. This is a huge size discrepancy, which is unfortunately just an inherent negative side-effect of the prompt.

Millhouse is a cute idea, but I feel like it is side-stepping the rules of the prompt a little bit. Greenskin I think is definitely the best of the three, although I think he should have some guaranteed effect if you play him even without another Pirate.

Your idea for my Sylvanas sounds pretty neat, although copying Durability for one turn is a bit weird and the more inward specifics of how that would work is not so clear.

This is very fitting of the original Sylvanas card, although having no 6-Cost cards is not a big condition to meet, especially in Hunter of all classes. I think this for this reason, I prefer the Neutral version even though it is definitely fitting as a Hunter card.

    Lundy
I do believe this card is better than Al'Akir for the comp, although there is an argument to be made that the damage from Life Tap is not supposed to matter if you end up winning the game anyway.

There are quite a few problems here. Namely that the card isn't actually called King Krush in any way on the card (which will lead people to vote is negatively just on principal). The effect is also missing the Battlecry keyword. One particularly glaring problem to me as well is the fact that it's a Classic card, meaning that it's a strictly better King Krush in the exact same set as King Krush (as well as the fact that this deckbuilding effect did not exist yet). Having no 8-Cost cards in your deck is also a very easy requirement to meet, especially in Hunter.

so this is another auto-battle system like battlegrounds ?

I don't think it would have been impossible to launch Hearthstone as one unified region, but it may have been easier for them to shard everything into their usual BNet regions. Looking back at when Naxx launched and other older expansions, when it went out in one region first instead of globally, it let them only disturb part of the audience when stuff lit up on fire.

I still remember the community complaints about how one region gets everything first and how it isn't fair. Meanwhile, the launch was horribly butchered and then when it launched in the second and third regions, everything was flawless since they knew what they were doing and had fixed issues so those players got a better experience overall, even if it did mean waiting.

World of Warcraft even sees this still with separate EU and NA launches for content. NA gets raids 24 hours before EU, which is so stupid from the competitive world-first point of view, but when there are issues with certain bosses, EU gets an opportunity to not encounter them. On a mental level, a guild struggling with a boss in NA that is clearly bugged can't be a great experience, which might give the EU folk a slight edge since they didn't have to deal with an unbeatable encounter for hours on end early on in progression. Still though, super unfair all around and it would be nice to have a level, global playing field. I hope that we'll see global raid launches in WoW now with the game potentially becoming regionless.

King Krush reimagined. What do you think?

    King Krush

This is a strictly better king krush, even with 8 cost cards in your deck. And if you don't have 8 cost cards in your deck (not a hard requirement for hunter), this destroys a minion and gains a stat boost as well. I don't know how you could fix this card, as it basically has no requirement in most hunter decks.

I'm REALLY looking forward to this.  I love single-player content (no roping, BM'ing, Net Decks, etc.)  I replay a lot of the single-player content that's already in the game but hopefully this will be a nice change of pace.  I'm excited to hear more.  Thanks for the info!

  • Runeterra Patch 2.9.0 - Card Balance Updates, Lab of Legends Additions, Cross-Shard Friend Challenge Removed

In light of the reddit post made by Dova, could we get a short article on the site that highlights the new plan for patch 2.11?

The thing I’ve been waiting for all this time is a quick pitch telling us what makes the game FUN. We know it exists, but why are we going to want to play it over one of the 50 other roguelikes getting released each month? Especially since this design team is stepping away from their comfort zone of “lots of cards that interact in interesting ways.” Even Battlegrounds is fundamentally a lot of cards that become stronger or weaker depending on what cards they see.

My impression right now is that this is in the Clash of Clans/Clash Royale vein: You don’t buy a card collection, but you do work to keep leveling up your units, and your success depends as much on your units’ level as on your skill. Those games don’t have to be bad - I think Clash Royale is pretty fun, actually - but the few good ones are worthwhile DESPITE that monetization model, not because of it.

I’ll check out any new mode they stick into the Hearthstone client, so in the end, maybe it doesn’t matter how well they market it to me in advance. But for what it’s worth, they still haven’t given me a reason to be excited.

I'm definitely expecting Blizz to monetize this to hell and back. Mercenaries, treasures, expanding your village, etc. I bet all of those will have micro transactions galore.

  • How does the Recent Threads feature work?

Thanks for the clarification and would indeed explain the inner workings of the feature. It is unfortunate for me that it happens though, because I frequently use the Recent Threads feature to check for the latest content on this site.

Man, Warsong Gulch as a stand-alone game would be awesome actually. That’s practically all I did back in Vanilla.

  • Still No News From Riot?

Well said I like this comment ^

Yikes 3 weeks on top of all the time we've waited is really problematic though.

I hope they learn some lessons from this and streamline their interior card change pipeline.

I'm glad we won't need collection for this

When a spam/advertizing/whatever post is made in a thread, the site registers this just like any normal post. Then the housekeeping algorythm kicks in and removes the post. What causes some irritation is that the site still displays the time of the deleted post as the last post in this thread. Maybe it helps if I give an example:

    09.06.2021, 11:15 normal post

    10.06.2021, 17:00 offensive post

Even after the offensive post got deleted, the site will display that the last post in this thread was made on 10.06.2021, 17:00.

At least that's what I remember from similar issues in the past. Maybe one of the staff members can explain this better, I'm neither a native speaker nor a site dev.

  • How does the Recent Threads feature work?

Can you elaborate on this please? I do not understand the correlation.

I'm expecting patch notes, and a hotfix. Like it's a digital card game. Doesn't take two weeks to implement what should be a relatively straight forward change. Nevermind a month.

As for the actual design overhauls or buffs to lesser known archetypes sure take all the time you need. But what players need is an emergency hotfix.

    ---Fyi----

Irelia Azir was buffed at the same time as being nerfed because Irelia summons blade burst on level up now.

Thats why we haven't seen the decks win rate go down even an inch.

They made a big post on Reddit the day after the last patch. They are going to break their usual pattern and do a huge balance patch alongside the next expansion release. Yes, it's another 3 weeks. Yes, I REALLY wish they had done a big balance patch at the time they were supposed to do a big balance patch (a week ago).

Apparently, their team is not really very big (see their comments that live balance is handled by only 3 people), and their team has been focused on future content. They recognize that as a problem.

Finally, if they are going to do unplanned balance changes, they cannot just throw them into the "balance me now" machine and spit out new versions of the cards the next day. They have to program the changes, test the changes with at least some minimum number of actual games played with the new versions to make sure they aren't super busted, compile all of the new coding into a patch file, and get the whole thing tested to make sure it doesn't have bad side effects (a step they apparently kinda missed with the most recent patch).

We'll survive for 3 weeks. <--- That's the mature side of me speaking. The immature side of me wants to scream that I'm sick of losing to Azir/Irelia even when I'm playing a deck that "counters" it.

As far as I know, this happens when spam/advertizing/similar stuff gets deleted.

  • Sneak Peek at Hearthstone Mercenaries - Screenshots and Descriptions of the New Mode via a Blizzard Survey

they would not have said it if they weren't sure about it. You can also monetize it through other ways like XP booster and or payed runs with extra rewards.

I'll be giving this a shot for sure, if I don't get through to the tournament with a win in the Gauntlet.

    Things can change

And I do not believe it will be exactly the same as Battlegrounds

blizzard Are sure not going to repeat the mistake of battlegrounds to Limit what they can earn...

"If it looks like a new comment, swims like a new comment, and quacks like a new comment, then it probably is a new comment... but not always though."

  • How does the Recent Threads feature work?

In the sidebar (on the right side) of the Hearthstone portal overview the Recent Threads are shown with the amount of time elapsed since the last update. What I do not understand is for instance for New Warlock Minion - Stealer of Souls it says that some update occurred very recently, but when you click on the arrow to navigate to the latest comment it is old and there does not seem to be any new comment added.

Is it another caching issue, perhaps someone fooling around or am I missing something? I am curious about this 🤔

  • Blizzard's New Global Battle.net to Break Down Regional and Cross-Platform Barriers for Games

    This is undoubtedly good news.

But I can foresee a few issues coming out of it. Call me a cynic, but whenever there's big changes like these there's always going to be something that breaks, and when cross region is involved, I wouldn't put it past that the disconnect problems just gets worse until we get the meme that is someone rising to legend on the backs of people skipping turns.

Also, there's the issue with multiple accounts on different regions. Granted that most people wouldn't have a 2nd account on another region, but if there's even a slight hint of combining collections being available how many new accounts will be opened solely to take advantage of this? If you start now, you can legitimately bank in at least 8k gold per expansion just completing quests. I can say with sincerity that I'd be tempted to do so myself.

Which is why I think this is likely only going to be restricted to playing cross borders with friends, while the rank plays stays within region. That will be taken by blizz as the reason not to combine the collections, no doubt saving their poor finance department the heartache.

That's not to say that it couldn't happen. So, let's have an honest discussion: how many of us will open a 2nd account on another region today (if you haven't already) just for that possibility?
