This... is quite awkward to use but it certainly a really good 2 drop.
The fact that you get access to 1 extra mana at some point (that you can't really choose) on top of a 2/3 for 2 is rock solid but is it enough to get rolling?
When DH was leaked 1 day before the actual reveal (iirc), my guess was that DH would be a 1-rotation-only class, then it would rotate out like the rest of the year of the Phoenix. It would be the theme of the year kinda like lackeys the year before. I thought that because, in WoW, DH is a very restrictive class both gameplay-wise and flavor-wise.
My guess turned out to be wrong. DH is here to say, then my first thought was "but how are they going to keep innovating on a class with such restrictive themes? Is every card in DH going to be some elf with glowing tattoos?"
Gameplay-wise for a start. Yes, game mechanics being shared between classes isn't a problem per se. However other classes (except maybe hunter) also have their own central unique or near-unique mechanics. Ramp for Druid; Overload & Totems for Shaman; Freeze for Mage; etc...DH's central theme is hero attack, a theme it shares with Druid, Warrior, and now Shaman as well. Hero attack is also a theme that is restrictive and therefore difficult to build on as class identity. I really fear this theme will run out of steam soon...DH lacks a central theme.
Flavor-wise, as mentioned above, half of DH cards are elves with glowing tattoos. It's not surprising. The thing is, all 9 base classes are general D&D/fantasy archetypes and therefore broad enough in their flavor to fit in plenty of themes (Dragonmaw Overseer being a priest card is BS though). DH on the other hand is specific to the warcraft universe, it has no other representation in pop culture, and is a class restricted to night/blood elves. Ofc DH is going to be full of elves with green tattoos...
I'm not like Brode and am not opposed to new classes entirely (heck, I made custom ones), but DH is the worst class they could have picked out of the 3 expansion classes from WoW. DK and Monk would have been better. DK in particular has already been toyed with in KFT on top of being a fan favorite, and Monk is an internally diverse class like Druid. But I guess that, hey, it's Illidan so it attracts fangirls and emo kids to HS?
I'm not entirely pessimistic though. If you look at HS history, the 9 base classes also took time to be fully refined. Burgle Rogue and Evolve Shaman didn't exist before the namesake cards were released. Hunter was entirely one-dimensional ("SMorc and/or play big stuff on curve") before 2017 (unfortunately Barrens made it one-dimensional again). Maybe Team 5 is actively working on refining DH too? Sigils can be promising if they expand on them. Soul Fragments are nice too even if they're dual-class.
whats the general strategy vs spell mage? im running into the problem where they have so much burn and removal that i never seem to gain tempo.
Mage should be a pretty easy matchup for Rush Warrior based on the few games I played with both decks. Maybe try to keep pressure on the board without overcommitting. Mage has a limited amount of burn, and if they waste all of it on your minions then you should win the matchup. They have no healing either outside of Ice Barrier so racing for health would also be a good idea
"based on a few games, this matchup is easy"
lol okay but when I make claims based on a few games, it's 'can we lock this thread for spam?'
their burn is also tempo (apexis blast), don't forget that.
Thrashing Snapper is just a bad card. At the moment your opponent can just ignore it, it already makes it a bad card.
What exactly is bad about a 1 mana unit dealing quite reliably 2 damage per swing? By that logic most onedrops -that see all a lot of play - were just bad cards.
Congratulations! It IS an awesome feeling to reach Legend that first time - especially for those of us who have played casually/seriously for years. Enjoy the euphoria!
I NEVER would have expected that Quilboar would be the next tribe they add to the game. It's interesting how it's a result of a battlegrounds tribe addition.
The thing is, Draft mode of Runeterra sucks, i just wanted to say that because you said that you like to play Arena in HS. The game is great but draft is meh.
I started this thread but I'm already playing LOR for 2 months now. I'm really loving the game so far. But the draft mode Expeditions is actually by far my favorite game mode! If it didn't cost so many of my precious shards I would be playing it even more. ;)
While I think it's cool to give top level players special card back. It kind of spits in the face of players who would like separate legend card backs for reaching legend in wild or classic. You could also give out cardbacks for battlegrounds and 12 win runs in duels/arena.
This is the second cardback that only a minority of folks will get, and standard legend cardbacks has lost any meaning it once had. So in that sense, this is frustrating.
Will the release of new Tier 2 hero portraits (obtainable after completing every 200 levels on the reward tracks) change your future amount of play? I am not so sure yet.
Free cosmetics yay! As a (mostly) F2P I've been low on fun skins, don't have any alt. for Shaman and I still stick around with the likes of Khadgar, Lunara, Maiev and Nemsy. Yes, CHADgar and Maiev are awesome, but some options would be nice. But I will not play more, the rewards will come as they come.
As for the Tier 2 skins, Valeera looks FIRE and Jaina is also really cool. I will definitely choose one of those or Thrall, I'm not completely sold on the chunky blue armor yet but it's about time for some variety.
Personally, I like the Rogue hero portrait and by picking it up should incentivize me to play Rogue even more. Same goes for the Demon Hunter hero portrait (which I like less though).
On a somewhat lighter but related sidenote, do you think there might be a threshold of too much collectible stuff added to HS too quickly which could scare off some potential collectors?
What is your opinion on these matters?
For me, the recent flood of hero skins is what finally got me to stop trying to have all of them. Now I only get them if I actually expect to use them (or they're part of the big pre-order bundle which I get more for the packs than anything else), which is a healthier approach so I'm happy about it.
If the daunting task forces collectors into making more rational decisions, then that's definitely a good thing. Not so much if instead they throw more and more at the game to get everything.
As for the Tier 2* skins, I'm definitely going with Valeera first again. It'll be my 6th Valeera skin, but will still end up being used more than any of the others due to how much of a rogue main I am. Plus, unlike a lot of the other classes, rogue doesn't have a non-basic hero that I just like way more than I will ever like the basic character. (The odds I use Gul'dan, Garrosh or Illidan over their more friendly counterparts is minuscule.) Given how little I expect to use most of them, I have no incentive to grind the rewards track to get them faster.
* It looks like rogue got T2 with the Book of Heroes portrait, so Valeera got T5 instead. DH was of course way too late to the WoW party to have a T2 set.

If they stick with two tiers in total, I will be able to obtain all the Tier 2 hero portraits sooner anyways than the Tier 1 hero portraits. Also, I am not at all familiar with the WoW armors and therefore I have no real affinity with them other than my own taste for their graphics.

I have crumbleing faith in that...
Does DH have a good reason to exist yet?
I completely agree with OP.

Hearthstone is Getting a New Esports Card Back for Masters Tour Event Competitors - Golden Skies
Okay then, let's remove any kind of exclusivity after a while!!
When will I be able to buy the card back of my avatar with gold? Or the card back this news is about?
Do you seriously see feasible, reasonable and logical to sell the Esports Card Back for Masters Tour Event for a few hundred gold? Not at all, right?
I reiterate again: there are first class clients and exclusivities and second class clients and exclusivities
