  • Looking for a good post-nerf deck that isn't Hunter or Paladin

i havent played much with rush warrior vs spell mage, but in my experience its a hard match for warrior. BUT looking at the stats its clearly an easy match for warrior, which says a lot about the deck. you really need to know what you are doing, but since i played just a few games it was a total scam for the mage since i recall being on the verge of winning, but they got a good scam out of their secrets and i couldnt finish the game as they got 4 ice barriers and healed up.

  • What to play? Runeterra, Magic, Mythgard or another CCG

if u are stricktly f2p do not try Magic. if u want to play for full value of your time then LoR is the way to go. in my opinion Magic is was and will always be the best card game out there. but i do not recommend it to everyone not just because how expensive it can be.

overall HS seems to find a great balance between f2p and ease of access for all players. i guess thats why its such a succeful card game

  • New Targon Card - Blue Sentinel

A 2 mana 2/3 that gives you 1 mana back later sounds a bit like a 1 mana 2/3. Is that good? Put like that, it sounds comparable to Solari Soldier. Unfortunately, it's not a 1 mana 2/3, it's worse than that, because it costs 2 mana up front, but gives you 1 mana back later, and mana is more valuable the earlier you can get it.

Now, maybe you have this combo where this guy allows you to play X unit 1 turn earlier which is a big deal; and fair enough, that can be very strong. But it likely requires your opponent's cooperation; if your opponent refuses to kill this guy when the extra mana crystal would be most beneficial to you, then this upside is thwarted. Overall, probably not good enough to be in a competitive deck, 2/5

What I don't like most is how they changed experience reward firstly. Rewards for 7 win was giving champion card and they moved it to weekly chests which is fair and ok for me but Free runs now gives almost no experience which is a big con for me. I'm mostly a draft player in CCGs and in Runeterra, playing draft for a week doesn't reward. it is just a 3-times-run mode like aa Asian MMORPG dungeon which has limits to play weekly (Hello Lost Ark), lol.

I agree that Riot probably should restore giving more XP for expeditions. TBH, after playing regularly for a while you really stop to care about XP -- region reward roads start to max out, the differences between the vaults levels don't really matter because most things are duplicates anyways, and if for any reason you do want more XP it's so easy to duel-farm PvP and Lab of Legends for a quick 3000+/day. But that just means players like me don't really care how much XP we're "leaving on the table" by not doing expeditions whereas players like tnrg could potentially be using it as a much-appreciated catch-up method.

  • New Targon Card - Earth Elemental

Right now, landmark-heavy decks are not even remotely close to being competitively viable. Then again, both Targon and Shurima are getting a ton of support for that game plan, so for now let's assume that it ends up being viable. Is this card good in that type of archetype?

The dream is playing this on turn 4 with its condition already fulfilled (say, by playing Ancient Preparations, then Preservarium or Rock Hopper, then Unraveled Earth). A 6/5 Overwhelm unit on turn 4 is 1 power and 1 toughness better than an allegiance-enabled Basilisk Rider- which is to say, pretty spectacular. Sadly, also very unreliable, in the case of this card. Also, unlike in the case of Noxus allegiance decks, it means you spent your early turns playing landmarks instead of developing your board, which makes the Basilisk Rider game plan both better and more reliable.

As a 4 mana 3/5, this is decidedly mediocre. And if you fulfill its condition later on, dropping a 4 mana 6/5 overwhelm creature on turn 8 is nowhere near as powerful as dropping it on turn 4. Maybe landmark-heavy decks will be viable, and maybe those decks will want this card. Even then, I expect its contribution to such decks will be modest. 2/5

  • Does DH have a good reason to exist yet?

    There is not much to say and there is only one answer;

Because Runeterra did and hyped the crowds about new region/class is possible why Blizzard don't do it and use the hypes benefits.

You don't need to explain this situation with gameplay. It was a market move and they screwed it.

The thing is, Draft mode of Runeterra sucks, i just wanted to say that because you said that you like to play Arena in HS. The game is great but draft is meh.

I started this thread but I'm already playing LOR for 2 months now. I'm really loving the game so far. But the draft mode Expeditions is actually by far my favorite game mode! If it didn't cost so many of my precious shards I would be playing it even more. ;)

What do you not like about it?

Don't worry, You will be swimming in those shards after a couple of months also, after 3 runs, it is free to play expeditions.

Best draft mode is MTG:A's for sure but no mainstream CCG has come close to it unfortunately. Eternal and HEX was like it but well both games are dead now. I don't know about Mythgard's Draft mode tho because i didn't even try the game. Look at how is the MTG:A's draft mode and you will understand what i meant.

in MTG:A you are openning packs to make your deck with other players. You choose those cards which you also collect them. I mean you really collect your draft deck for your collection, so you can decide to collect most rare cards while winning lesser games or make a better deck to win more and get more rewards from your wins. It is all your choice and rewards are really decent which might keeps you playing draft mode and/or buying Battle Passes to save them.

I really thought that with first reveal of Runeterra, their draft mode migh tbe like MTG but no, it was even worse than HS-Arena and they killed even more with deleting free run experiences.

Also, I don't really like its card choosing system. 3-card choosing is so bad implemented draft system in my opinion. It forces players to those archetypes that I spoke about in my above post. Riot approaches its card game as an e-sport candidate more than a CCG which really hurts the potential of the game.

And Also, because of no free Run reward system, there is no draft mode ratings because playerbase rarely plays draft mode. I knew some people who holds their expedition tokens because they are waiting some overhaul to Draft mode. I am even sitting on 40+ tokens + 150k shards because I already collected almost all cards and expeditions after 3 run doesn't give anything even I call myself more of a draft player.

Riot is generous with its card game, I don't have any word for it but with this way, it loses the magic of the collecting counterpart of CCGs and it becomes an e-sport instead of a deckbuilding card game. Draft mode means nothing in Runeterra right now for players who started the game with its release.

  • 4 New Targon Cards for Runeterra's Guardians of the Ancient Expansion Revealed!

Obviously Shurima is the only region with direct landmark synergies, but I could see Spiral Stairs / Seed of Strength getting some experimentation in other regions -- e.g., Zoe / Viktor / Vi, possibly Swain, maybe Lee Sin. It's comparable to Zenith Blade: you get more stats, but you spend 3 unit mana instead of 3 spell mana and there are timing conditions.

  • 4 New Targon Cards for Runeterra's Guardians of the Ancient Expansion Revealed!

I really like Blue Sentinel, it's a nice medium-value card that does a few different things. Runeterra could do with more of those, I think.

You get an early blocker, some landmark synergy and a bit of ramp on a later turn. It won't be crazy, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's in a lot of decks.

Thank you! This was such an annoying bug.

  • Does DH have a good reason to exist yet?

    Quote From Cheese

Flavor-wise, as mentioned above, half of DH cards are elves with glowing tattoos. It's not surprising. The thing is, all 9 base classes are general D&D/fantasy archetypes and therefore broad enough in their flavor to fit in plenty of themes (Dragonmaw Overseer being a priest card is BS though). DH on the other hand is specific to the warcraft universe, it has no other representation in pop culture, and is a class restricted to night/blood elves. Ofc DH is going to be full of elves with green tattoos...

Had I included the flavour aspect I would have said something very similar. There's no question that demon hunters are very cool, it's just that they are extremely specific. Even when you relax the WoW limitation that they're all elves (as HS has done in a few instances, most notably in Aranna's story), all DHs can be described as: A grumpy and overly serious character who's willing to sacrifice everything to avenge a perceived wrong, seeks out Illidan in Outland, learns how to dual-wield war-glaives, gets their eyes burned out for demon sight and plays host to a demon's soul. Tattoos, horns and wings all come along as part of the package.

I think what bothers me most about DHs is that they all have pretty much the same personality, because no one would undergo the process of becoming a DH if they viewed the world in any other way. Of the available heroes, Aranna is the 'friendly' one, but by the measure of all the other classes she's still very serious.

Perhaps ironically, the best approach they could take to diversify DH personalities comes from Valeera. She was possessed by the demon Kathra'natir,  complete with demonic runes on her skin. It would be easy to adapt the story so the character becomes a DH begrudgingly as they learn to control and harness the demon inside. That way they can be as friendly as you like, and only need to take their own condition seriously, not the whole universe.

I'm not entirely pessimistic though. If you look at HS history, the 9 base classes also took time to be fully refined. Burgle Rogue and Evolve Shaman didn't exist before the namesake cards were released. Hunter was entirely one-dimensional ("SMorc and/or play big stuff on curve") before 2017 (unfortunately Barrens made it one-dimensional again). Maybe Team 5 is actively working on refining DH too? Sigils can be promising if they expand on them. Soul Fragments are nice too even if they're dual-class.

Yes, it does look like they are working on diversifying the class mechanically. Hopefully that means they find more original things like sigils, rather than adding in well-trodden mechanics like tempo deathrattles. Certainly if they're going to introduce more overlaps, they should stop taking mechanics from hunter, rogue and warlock!

I was admittedly lazy when (not) discussing soul fragments. I guess I couldn't be bothered when all the soul fragments amounted to in DH were exactly what warlock did (AoE), plus the same-old give your hero attack stuff. So while novel on the face of it, they still failed to actually add much in practice.

  • New Targon Card - Blue Sentinel

You get an upvote just for the puns.

  • 4 New Targon Cards for Runeterra's Guardians of the Ancient Expansion Revealed!

Back to the cards themselves, they look to be pretty underwhelming in anything expect Shurima.

  • New Targon Landmark - Spiral Stairs

I don't think this work in Lee Sin decks neither Targon nor Ionia have any way to accelerate countdown, so you won't get this until turn 6, that deck early game is not the best, so you can't afford a 3 mana do nothing. Zenith Blade is still the better choice since it level up you Lee Sin faster.

I think that this will find a home in Shurima.

  • New Targon Landmark - Rockfall Path

Obliterate effects are very powerful. This card works best alongside other removal options: say, avalanche to clear your opponent's small units, then triggering this afterwards to deal with the sole remaining threat. If you can advance its cooldown to trigger the effect when your opponent isn't expecting it, even better.

This could be a good fit into a Targon + Shurima deck with Zilean. Obliterate effect for this cheap earns this card a 4/5

  • Ragnaros is Getting the Diamond Treatment - Collect All 36 Classic Legendaries to Obtain It

  • New Targon Landmark - Spiral Stairs

Best-case scenario, you spend 3 mana to play this on turn 3, then you get the buff spell at the start of turn 6. The buff itself is quite strong, especially if you can duplicate it with Taric. However, Taric and his decks are very weak right now, and I don't think this can propel them into competitiveness. Without Taric, I just don't see who wants this; Lee Sin certainly doesn't.

It's terrible if you don't play it on curve, it's unplayable vs. aggro because of the negative tempo of spending 3 mana on turn 3 with no payoff until turn 6, and control decks can typically deal fine with the buffed unit later on, especially if you telegraph your move 3 turns in advance. If people start running landmark removal, then that's another weakness.

Even with a landmark synergy-heavy deck, I can't see this card ever being good. 1/5

  • Group Therapy! Need to blow off some steam? Mega salty? Here's the place!

I fucking hate arena right now, its so fucking stupid. literally 50% chance to lose the game on the spot going second fuck this game. Also fuck druid, such a stupid fucking arena meta, literally go first get 3 minions play mark of the lotus and win the game because no class can deal with that bullshit and still live past the endless bullshit that is druid card generation

Valeera doesn't really wear Bloodfang, does she? Her armour ist red with gold and green touches, while Bloodfang is red and black... Her book of heroes portrait Gladiator Valeera wears Bloodfang though, so I guess that's why they (randomly) upgraded to T5...

yes, it's true, valeera set is not really bloodfang, although you could argue that it was similar enough to not be worth making into a prestige skin.

  • New Targon Landmark - Spiral Stairs

Oh look lee sin decks got a new toy to play with. Is it better or worse than Zenith Blade? It makes the combo more slower but also more reliable so I am unsure what to think about this card :/

  • New Targon Card - Earth Elemental

In combination with shurima this condition is really easy to fullfill and who wouldn't like to farm the vulnerable enemy units with a 6/5 overwhelm ... that becomes a 10/6 if the opponent is halflife or lower
