I'd take Defile back any day of the week but I understand if some people dislike it.
I'd imagine they'll let Zephrys rotate instead of bringing him instantly back.
Aluneth feels redundant when you still have Sayge (although it would allow better draw in non-secret lists like No Minion C'Thun Mage or Mozaki Mage...but do we really want that?).
I initially laughed UI off, surely they wouldn't bring back such a strongly-opinionated card. But Overflow is rotating, and they do love giving Druid cards that draw 5, by bringing it back they wouldn't have to reprint the effect...
I'd love C'Thun and his support gang back in a format where the strategy might be a bit more viable, at least for a couple of expansions. However, we just got the new Old Gods so that's highly doubtful.
All in all, I'd like the returning cards to be older than last rotation and cards that see little to no play in Wild but which could make an impact with a smaller card pool. I think there's no sense in bringing back strong meta-defining cards.
As you said yourself, it would indeed to be pointless to design UI in that case, so I think it is more logical to be optimistic and believe that we'll get a better price if we already have normal card.
Also, I don't think they would add a lot of new, "confusing" numbers to their system, like -395, -780 etc.
Merging doubles into golden would make them never nerf anything, since we would get enourmous profits from merging those 9+ duplicates.
Ideally when you open a pack the cards that come it in are exciting for a variety of reasons
Hard disagree. Opening packs is a painful chore, and I hate it. The one time in twenty that you see a Legendary does not make it better -- in fact, it often makes it worse if the Legendary is bad.
The Core set is a step in the right direction, but all random packs (i.e., loot boxes) need to go away forever. Just let us buy exactly the cards we want, or let us subscribe for full access. It's not like we own the cards, anyway. We're just renting them until the day the servers are shut down for good.
I would LOVE an upgrade to gold feature, even remember someone on reddit photoshopping how the UI could look like. It'd be a great thing for me to be able to craft my favorite cards like Jaraxxus without feeling so wasteful of dust. Not to mention that it would relieve the sadness of not opening packs at prerelease because I need to craft my day one favs in golden first.
You can already upgrade normal cards into golden. You disenchant the normal one and use the dust (plus a ton more dust) to make the golden one. You can also already use gold to do this. You buy some packs, disenchant what you get, and craft what you want from the dust.
I have trouble believing their "upgrade" system would actually be more cost-effective than that, so I really don't see much point in designing a whole new UI around the process.
However, for the sake of argument, I think it would be fun if you could merge two identical normal cards into the golden version, at no additional cost. That's honestly the only way I see myself doing it. Anything more is just too wasteful.
As for crafting portraits and cardbacks, I would craft a select few that I've missed, but only if it's shockingly cheap. The conversion rate I use is 100 dust = 100 gold = $1.17, and I'll be keeping that in mind when I make any cosmetic crafting decisions.
ALOT of those cards are broken so fair inclusions would probable be fel reaver, void ripper, and dire frenzy, (would have said powermace but shaman has no mechs). And I'd be totally fine to see those 3 cards join core, maybe even rin!
It was recently mentioned that Team 5 prefers to take breaks between releases of Hero cards, so Dr. Boom, Mad Genius is unlikely (also people hate him).
It was also recently mentioned that singleton support was rotating out, so no Zephrys the Great.
C'Thun can't happen without his specific support cards, and it would be weird to have some Old Gods but not others, plus it would be super weird to have two different versions of Old Gods in the same Standard meta, so no N'Zoth, the Corruptor.
I think there will be riots if Ultimate Infestation ever returns to Standard. (Really, Dean? Printing five 5's on a card does not constitute good design.)
Powermace is no good as a Core card because it's just weird to give Shaman Mech synergy unless the expansion is themed around Mechs.
The others would probably be fine. In fact, all the cards I haven't excluded are fun and well-designed without being overpowered, so I'd be glad to see them in Core.
I mean in other games like Magic the Gathering you always have access to your enemies discard pile. Not saying that you're right or wrong but it seems like a common theme across the majority of CCGs to allow this knowledge for one reason or another.
If you are asking because of it being a Q&A, sadly I think this is only a retelling of the Q&A that happened earlier.
I suppose the ‘no-brainer” approach would be to offer the upgrade as a difference of the normal and golden dust cost. I would also welcome an alternative means of getting the upgrade, but since there is no obvious conversion rate between dust and gold, I suspect they would be wary about such a system being exploited for dust (arguably the more precious of the two resources).
Recently I took the unprecedented step of crafting a golden card (Licensed Adventurer) so that I could show off the new golden coin animations. Probably not going to do that again anytime soon because it just feels so wasteful lol
“With the Classic Set joining the Legacy Set in Wild, all Classic cards and their Golden versions will now be craftable and disenchantable.”
I’m puzzled by this statement. Aren’t all Classic cards already craftable and disenchantable? Or are they just saying (in an indirect way) that you can do without them the same way you do without other sets that rotate out of standard?
I always missed the opportunity. I guess different timezone kinda sucks. But here goes.
Should they change the effect of Discard so that opponents can't see what card getting discarded? I mean, It's already a downside of losing a card, but doesn't it seems unfair for opponent to see it as well?
This really should be a thing! I always wished to upgrade some of my favourite legendaries in wild with my pile of unused dust. But it would feel so bad to waste 1200 dust in the process, so I never did it. I think that upgrade cost should just be the dust difference between golden and normal card.
Btw, this system exists in Gwent, they even have a separate currency just for upgrading to golden cards. One of my favorite concepts.
I wouldn't use it. Disenchanting golden cards is good source of dust and I prefer to have more cards to build decks from over having golden cards. But I think it makes sense to give players the option.
If I assume two Legendaries per class in the new Core set, then Rin could be an interesting win-condition for Warlock in the Core set, and Aluneth could be a cool "support" Legendary for the Core set in Mage.
Fel Reaver would be an addition worth trying for Aggro, and it's a card that could actually be an interesting teaching tool for new players. Void Ripper opens up more play possibilities.
Ultimate Infestation is honestly probably not that bad of an addition anymore, but they might retract from adding it just because of the general reception of the card. Same thing kinda goes with Dr. Boom, Mad Genius (and I partially doubt that they'd want any hero cards in the Core set, but I don't know for sure). C'Thun would actually be kinda interesting, but then you'd have to relegate 18 of the 29 existing cards to just C'Thun cards (all 17 of his cultists, and then C'Thun himself). N'Zoth isn't a bad choice either, but it might be a bit too limiting. Powermace would be okay, but I don't see Mech Shaman being a deck they support any time soon. And Zephrys... I'll actually be glad to see him gone.
They missed a few things along the way, but we'll know everything about the Core set and the cards in Classic Mode in about 2 weeks as I think they said that info will be out a few days after BlizzConline (Feb 19-20).
Defile seems to be on quite a few "Top" lists; don't know if it's on mine, per se, but I acknowledge how cool it is. Getting that perfect clear feels so good.
One thing I've always wanted to seem them do is to have a "Golden Day/Week" type of promotion, where every single card played in any mode is its golden equivalent. The golden animations are really quite something and most people see so few of them, especially free to play. I think it would get people excited about the golden cards as well as show off the amazing design work the team has done.
"There are questions to solve - what does the UI look like, should you be able to use gold to upgrade."
I don't think anyone would actually ever do this (unless the costs were really wacked), but it's actually a really flavorful option. It's like you're melting your gold and using it as the base for the golden card.
will Demon Hunter basic cards rotate as well? if so, does that mean players have only time until the new expansion to reach level 60 as DH to obtain golden cards (without crafting them)?
