  • Hack The Opposition - Quest Tempo Warrior w/ E.T.C.

Before Sword Eater came out I ran Hoard Pillager. Sword Eater is infinitely better and Hoard Pillager isn't really good if you're only getting back a 3/2 or a Livewire Lance, it's also exceptionally bad against aggro which this deck can already struggle against.

The deck definitely has enough weapons and charges to grind out even the most stubborn of control decks, just be smart with your weapon charges and know when to use them. I've even switched out a 1 durability axe with a lance against some control decks to farm Lackeys for E.T.C. If you really want more swings I think you should look at maybe keeping the easily cuttable Captain Greenskin, maybe even slide in a Doctor Krastinov.

  • Rewards Track: Current progress

I am 1/3 of the way through level 43 (bought the pass).

I have seen two people on ladder with level 50 hero portraits, and have seen a couple more  in streams I watch. Level 44 feels a mile away - the update to rewards can't come soon enough. I have rolled the 800XP (960 XP for me with the 20% boost) quest 2 days in a row (rolled and re-rolled) and it feels terrible. Work is busy and I have not been able to play more than a few games a day this week. At this rate I won't be at 44 until Monday when we get the new weekly quests, because I am only earning 1200-1500 XP a day, which is really poor in terms of gold/day.

  • Smooth Nocturne

Evershade stapler only creates copies, not exact copies, and soloist only hits hand and deck, not everywhere.

  • That won't work like that. Encroaching only gives +2|+2 in hand and deck, and the new card only creates copys, not exact copies.

    Pro

I love Hack the System, even though it has never really been super competitive. This looks great and I will definitely give it a try. Bonus points for a great write-up!

Have you considered Hoard Pillager? There's no such thing as too many weapons when you're spamming golems!

  • Rewards Track: Current progress

I'm sitting @ level 37 (559/5800) with two 1k xp daily quests on my log.

  • mini expansion

I did the same as you with my initial DMF pack opening. I did just enough to get the commons and rares, which netted me 4 legendary and 10 epic cards. I've saved my ladder rewards packs from December, will be saving the five compensation packs, and will be saving the January ladder rewards to hopeully fill the commons and rares from the min-expansion. I do have some gold remaining that I did not spend on this expansion to buy a few more packs if I end up close to the pity timer or just need another one or two to finish things off. I"m trying not to spend any gold that was acquired from the rewards track so that I know exactly what my income has been when it comes to the next full expansion.

  • I'm so tired of losing against stupidly overpowered elementals...

ehh, its not op at all. The best late game build is kaly Nadina. Elementals lose hard to poison Murlocs/Amalgadon stuff

Oh I don't frequent card games that much.  I reference the others from when I played some.  Most experience was Yugioh and I wasnt a fan of the 1 to 2 turn matches either.  I guess I'm a bit picky, because every card game tailors to what THEY want to see played competitively, not the freedom of deck building.   (My opinon, there is nothing to argue there or change my mind about).

The difference between the 1-2 turn games in yugioh is that the players know how to use the combos and dig through decks and no what they can do.  There's nothing that allows you to really do that in this.  The only thing close was, imo, a basic brain dead demacia spam, that I think was brought up earlier in the comments.  I don't know about the current state of Yugioh, I also was very brief in my MTG experience so I didnt want to bring up a game I have literally no idea about other than color decks and heroes or legends (their op cards).

For HS, I have a bit of experience but yea, it looks like HS may be the worst in terms of pay to win for sure.   Spoke too soon about the LoR pay to win.  There's definitely algorithms in place though. (not saying im a good card player could be diamond if it wasnt for my luck - transition to LoL "my teammates keep me silver")  You can see if you go on a hot streak, right after your first draw is unbelievably unlucky and are almost always going against counters no matter what deck you switch to.  I just surrender a few games automatically then go back to regular playing.

@ anyone else that wants to just simply come talk shit..This post isnt meant for fanboys/girls to come defend riot's honor by the way, I've happily spent plenty of money and invested a lot of time into LoL.. it's just a discussion about the game.  If youre offended go back to looking up LoL hentai.

  • Most recent event cards

The very existence of Hand Traps + other cards that are designed to give the second player a huge edge in Yu-gi-Oh (Evenly Matched, Dark Ruler no More, Nibiru, etc) shows how unbalanced / uhealthy the game became over the years... to the point if a player goes second and doesn't start with those specific counters, he just loses.

  • Anyone here playing Gwent?

Reinstalled the game still not fully into this but I think I will give it another shot, if you want I am active in OOC discord server :)

  • The Game Awards

The fact TLoU2 won anything at all just made the game awards lose any credibility it ever had

  • No Pathetic Cards Dragon Priest

Yeah, this deck does get the job done, but you need some cooperation from your opponent to get the achievement 😅

  • No Pathetic Cards Dragon Priest

Love the idea, love to play it, hate the winrate :D

  • The Pepper Thread - Share Some Good Vibes!

I hade a crazy, lucky ending to a ladder game last evening. Playing Pure Pally vs Highlander Mage, we just kept clearing boards until both went into fatigue. It was very uncertain who would have the upper hand with just a few cards left and Reno's hero power active. My second to last card was Murgurgle Prime wich felt good. Even better when he summoned a Magicfin protected behind a Circus Amalgam as I went into fatigue. I traded my four other Murlocs from the Prime for some legendary refill: Sky Gen'ral Kragg (untriggered), Lorewalker Cho, Bloodmage Thalnos aaaaand *drumroll* Chef Nomi. A board full of elementals, a following concede and a good jump up the ladder. :)

I watched it, and rather than disappointed I felt dissatisfied because the winners were about as expected with TLOU2 winning most of it and I was hoping that other games would at least take a bit more of the awards. It felt like TLOU2 only deserved about 2 of the awards which were the Best Voice Acting and the Best Innovation which made complete sense as the game was a good technical game just not a very good game overall. I wished Legends of Runeterra would have won the Best Mobile Game but no surprise Among Us won that category without much of a challenge (though I think it's not right to nominate a game that's not released in 2020 but oh well). I'm very very very happy that Hades won a few awards at least because I loved that game so much and I think that it had a good chance to win the GOTY despite being an indie game. Overall, this year's awards felt a bit underwhelming but that's just my opinion.

For the announcements, I'm sad that there's no Elden Ring announcement (I swear that game does not exist). I'm a bit weirded out by the sheer amount of co-op zombie shooters that got announced but they all seemed pretty good so I'm hyped for that. Ruined King which was Riot's RPG game finally got a trailer and I'm hoping it's a good game. The Smash Ultimate announcement was amazing and I got baited for half a second when Sephiroth "stabbed" Mario.

I would be really happy if Hades had won the GotY. I'm a huge fan of indie games (i'll always choose to play Terraria, Grim Dawn or The Binding of Isaac over any AAA game) and roguelites and it was a good surprise to see a game of the genre getting so close to the top.

I feel like Ori and the Will of the Wisps suffered from the same problem as Hollow Knight did a few years ago. An amazing game that came out very early in the year and ended up overshadowed by stuff that came out later. Cuphead came out late in the same year and got all the attention. I'm not saying that Cuphead is bad but Hollow Knight deserved more recognition. Ori II also came out very early this year and has been left behind in the wake of all the other titans that were released later.

I had these questions a while back about these custom Hearthstone, I meant no offense, I respect anyone decision about arts. I would even encourage them to keep pursuing this.

The thing is, up until now, after 6+ years, I haven't seen yet a single custom made Hearthstone being used by the Hearthstone team (please correct me If I'm wrong), since they always made their own arts (or new keywords) from their own team, maybe some arts from outside source, but never about the gameplay design or keywords.

So why keep doing this without any sort of incentives from them (Blizzard)?
Is it not a better alternatives to send them all of this directly? I mean, if you want to be recognized, plus your arts is fascinating, why not apply for the job?

Again, just curious. No offense in any way at all. Great job.

As someone who's very involved with the FC community, perhaps I can try to answer.

From what I can gather, people like to create cards just because it's simply fun to create your own card ideas for a CCG you really like. I like to create cards because it's fun. When people play a card game, it's natural for some of those people to start thinking of what cards they would create. Entire fan-made expansions is just a natural step from fan-made cards. Most of us don't care if these cards we make never get into the game because we simply enjoy making the cards that we make and don't expect anything to come of it.

As far as applying for the job goes, one does have to keep in mind that to get a job working at Hearthstone designing cards, there's a lot more than just being able to think of good card ideas. Knowledge and experience of proper game design is also required, which obviously not everyone has. Take me for instance. Regardless of what cards I have made, I don't believe that Blizzard would want to hire a 21 year old who lives on the other side of the country and knows very little about how to actually design the basis of games.

As far as there being no custom cards in the game made by us, this isn't necessarily true. Card designs that the FC community has made have sometimes ended up in the game at some point, although not necessarily those exact cards. Although we know that Team 5 has looked at cards made by the FC community before (in the past anyway, so their perspective of this may be different now), it's difficult if not outright impossible to judge how much influence from us they actually get from us.

But the main reasons people create cards is because they like to get creative with their own ideas, and they just simply enjoy making their own cards regardless of if anything actually comes of it or not.

Have you played Battlechasers: Nightwar? It's on Steam, and it's made by the same developers. Some people are concerned this is basically BCN: League Edition, a reskin of their previous game. I'm not worried, because BCN was really good, but it's still something to think about.

No, I have not. I'll certainly check it out at least before Ruined King is released so I get a better sense of the game. Thanks for the game recommendation

  • The Game Awards

These awards are very much like the oscars, its almost always something that have massive developmental funds advantage compared to others and usually the winners are games which I personally don't have as much fun playing. Its always going to be subjective anyway at the end, so no point holding our breath on it.

Last of us 2 for example drags way too long, and its largely a somewhat linear experience. Its famous for its narrative, which I wouldn't deny is among the top, but then suffers from the fact that you're not really playing a game so much as watching a film. In comparison, games like Kingdom come: Deliverance is hardly ever going to be on the top of the list and yet I've just blown like 300 hours on it because it was a fun, even funny, game to play.

Right now, Cyberpunk 2077 is probably going to sweep the awards for next year and yet I am probably one of the few people on earth playing Oxygen not included (DLC came out just days before cyberpunk) instead.

Its not even entertaining to watch these award shows to be honest. The best award shows, in my opinion, will always be the ones that crown the losers in the field, which is why I find the razzies much more interesting than oscars in general. (not sure if video games has raspberry awards)

  • Anyone here playing Gwent?

Same here. But not so often, only playing on weekend.

All I can say, it's hard to settle to a different card game especially if it has different purpose than Hearthstone, since you need to balance your gameplay between 2 or 3 rounds, instead of 1 round in Hearthstone, or you may lose badly in the following rounds.
Other than that, love the art, pretty balanced. May settle in forever if Hearthstone keep going on the bad direction.

PS. While Cyberpunk has been released recently, I may have to let go Gwent for a while. A long while.

It seems silly that Among Us was even on the list, considering it came out in 2018. Did the mobile version come out this year? That must be it.

Anyway, I'm glad Hades won something; that game is amazing.

Actually, Among Us came out earlier on mobile than on PC, I can vouch for that as I was one of the few people who played it before 2020 so why it got nominated is a mystery to me. But since it did get nominated, I think it deserved winning those categories.
