  • New Ionia Landmark - Monastery of Hirana

    Quote From DoubleSummon

Seems horrible to me.. 3mana to create a card that doesn't see play, and even less useful than that card.

    Ionia getting really bad cards..

I have to agree, i was hoping for a landmark that would at least have synergy with Lulu and other support cards, no luck

@DoubleSummon - I didnt argue the other games do it, and I believe it was early release you pay for the quest rewards unsure if they provided the cards, again I could be wrong.  I have seen all the hero level ups (I prefer running TF and doin a lil bim bam bizzle), which I mean it just happens once.

You don't understand how the event works do you. You do quest to unlock rewards, some of the rewards are premium (mostly cosmetics and some shards) other are free ( the KD/a cards )

HS and Yugioh and other TCG i have experience with the combos and plays are a lil bit more intricate.  LoR = Play card, get op effect.  - starting with this.

I can't speak for Heartstone haven't played the game in years, but I still play Yu-Gi-Oh a lot, and that game is plagued by monsters and floodgate that can negate any move you make to the point that if you don't open with hand traps in your first turn you might just give up, so no it's not more intricate.

I find myself in numerous games where it's Targon (naturally new = op) and they loop and just sit and take infinite turns.  I dont know the cards well enough to recite what is happening.

Targon is not op, if you had done your homework your would know that most player complained about how underwhelming Targon felt compared to Bilgwater. In the top six meta decks we have now, only two of them use Targon Tahm Kench/Soraka and Fearsome aggro and second one only use three cards from that region.

For the trolls I do mute doesnt mean they still dont intentionally take up the full time and slow roll.  I don't have the time to climb to the top and thats already, but I will voice my opinion.

So according to you players who take their time to think about their next move are trolling? No wonder you can't climb. Here's an advice in the next card game you chose to play take time to learn the game and improve instead of just crying about card being OP any time you lose to better players.

  • Hearthstone Rewards Track Patch - Client Updated to Removed End of Track Pack Rewards, Replaced with Gold

If you think they care about keeping the entire player base happy, you might want to be careful about tossing around words like "delusional."

Blizzard cares about keeping paying players happy. They've never shown a ton of concern about free players unless they do something that creates enough bad press to spill over and affect the opinions of non-free players.

By and large, the more you spend on Hearthstone, the less you probably care about the rewards track. That's why they are doing their best to change things just enough to look like they care without actually doling out a bunch more gold. If they wanted to appease free players, they would have made the game a lot more free-friendly a long time ago.

That said, even the whales can agree that the game has always cost way too much. However, this reward-track hill is the wrong place to fight that battle. If you want the game to cost less, it's time to start a completely different conversation about monetization, blind packs, etc. As long as people keep letting Blizzard pull the discussion back to this specific PR booby trap, they will never get the message they actually need to hear about the state of their game.

  • Liftoff! (Space themed community-built expansion - 147 Cards!)

Perhaps I'll try to go more in-depth later; but my first impression is that you guys clearly captured the essence of HS card design, and there are tons of flavorful cards as well as creative archetypes. I especially like the neutral set, Hand of the Void is flavor incarnate! The way you guys played around with Observe and gave it enough support is amazing, it's what Blizzard should be doing when creating expansion-specific keywords.

One constructive criticism I can give is that making the both Legendaries of a class to support the same archetype is kind of limiting design. Not saying that they should be unplayable together but it'd give the idea of that archetype being shoved down our throats if Blizz did it.

    Very good stuff.

  • New Bilgewater Spell - Boomship

Seems like a meme card, could cost 2 and still be considered a meme.

  • The Arbiter - A Card with an Algorithm

So, I'm working on this expansion; a whole year of expansions actually. And I just happened to create a card that, in my humble opinion, captures the thematic essence of a certain WoW character. I wanted to share this as a standalone card rather than with a whole batch of cards. Would love to hear your thoughts too. I'll also be giving brief information about the card and how it works since it's a little complex than most Hearthstone cards, perhaps comparable to Zephrys the Great in that it requires a specific algorythm.

Wow! Some of those effects are damn flashy and perhaps even too harsh. But the text of Arbiter is too cryptic. How am I supposed to understand what's going on? How can I determine what Realm The Arbiter chooses? Here's the catch:

The Arbiter simply takes note of certain actions the enemy player does while playing the game. Each realm has 4 actions that count towards it. Sometimes those may overlap, and in rare cases that some realms completely even themselves out, The Arbiter simply praises Yogg and yoinks the enemy into a random realm.

The concept itself is pretty straightforward and perhaps a copy-paste of what The Arbiter does and what each realm of Shadowlands stands for in WoW lore. But I found it hard to explain it in words (cards!) without turning it into a Yu-Gi-Oh tier mess.

Now I want to open up more about the design of each realm for those that may be unfamiliar with WoW lore (trust me, while it's getting butchered recently, it's intriguing enough to make me, a person who only played for a year to still follow it) while also giving insight about the way I designed some aspects of this card.

Recently, they added afterlife to WoW, called Shadowlands. There are 5 main realms in it, as you can see above.

-Ardenweald is basically Druid stuff but blue; as such the effect is about Mana.

-Bastion is a realm where people like Uther, loyal and honorable men of duty, went to after death, so there's a touch of Paladin and other "good guy" stuff.

-Maldraxxus is the "I CRUSH YOU ME STRONG WARRIOR" realm with a twist; they're all skeletons and it has a green, nasty color scheme. The requirements for The Arbiter to put your opponent in Maldraxxus are basically all Warrior stuff, and that's by design.

-Revendreth is the one I had fun the most while designing around it; it's a realm that prideful and jaded souls go to after they die; I tried to make a connection with Control style decks and Control players' attitude (I'm a control player myself btw), hence the effect and its prequisites.

-The Maw is Hell. It's for the worst of the worst. In my initial design, the effect was a lot more harsher (It also destroyed Mana Crystals) and I had a prequisite related to Demons that made it look like I had a hate boner for DH (shockingly, I don't). The thing is, I wanted The Maw to punish aggro players because it's just a thematic fit that the most aggresive and reckless players would get the worst punishment of all. But as you already realized, by turn 10 it isn't important whether you've destroyed their deck or not, if you've came that far vs aggro you already won. So it's kind of bugging me that something that makes sense on paper won't ever fulfill it's meaning if it's implemented in the actual game. Perhaps this needs more work? idk.

All in all, I had fun brainstorming and coming up with designs that I think are interesting while making this card. I would love to hear your thoughts about it. Hopefully I'll be able to share more custom cards in the future. And if you've read that far, cheers to you man!

  • New Bilgewater Card - Wiggly Burblefish

it creates one spell in general or 2 from both regions?

I think this card should cost 2 if it didn't had the reduction so 4 spells cast for this to be even with it's value and it doesn't have attune like Coral Creatures, I think this might be just too slow/bad and there are too many bad 1 cost spells like Jettison (bad in a none deep deck)

  • New Ionia Landmark - Monastery of Hirana

Seems horrible to me.. 3mana to create a card that doesn't see play, and even less useful than that card.

    Ionia getting really bad cards..

  • New Ionia Spell - Homecoming

Horrible doesn't start to describe this card it's so bad.

  • New Freljord Landmark - The Scargrounds

Only good card of the bunch.. but IDK it seems too specific to me only braum/vlad?

would say bilgewater too but those cards are not that great without taragon..

  • New Freljord Card - It That Stares

It that sucks* man this card is bad specially as most land marks just suck as well.

2 damage slow speed at 8 unit mana is just too slow.

  • New Bilgewater Spell - Boomship

Even though it's probably completely meme, I want to make a deck combo'ing this with Karma so bad...

  • In The Swing Of Things - Card Design Competition Discussion Thread

I've scraped Mirror Mace, so I'll focus on Soul Eater instead. What do you think about the new wording? I think it's more accurate, but also blander in some way.

If you can't figure out how to work around the [Hearthstone Card (Blackwater Buccaneer) Not Found] issue, I think [Hearthstone Card (Blackwater Buccaneer) Not Found] is also neat.

Very minor suggestions, but I think you should drop the 's and name it Midnight Reaper (or even The Midnight Reaper, given it's a legendary). Watermark doesn't really fit the flavor, also. I'd probably suggest using a custom one.

I think I prefer Xal’atath, but Pocket Knife is quite strategic and interesting as well.

If you go with the former, you should definitely clarify the targeting system in your submission, since it's not clear by reading the card alone.

Durability should be capitalized. Appart from that, I'm not sure about having both the Battlecry and the Deathrattle. They don't seem very cohesive besides having Freeze synergy.

I like the 3/3/1 Balanced Blade you suggest. It would be more… well, more balanced.

About Blade of Souls, I don't like it because it feels like it should be a spell instead of a weapon. Also, it makes more sense as a pure DH card.

  • Rewards Track: Current progress

Currently level 38 with 1761/5800 towards 39. Obviously, that will change a bit next week with the patch. The 20% reduction should make this thing reasonable and much more likely to meet the dev's goal of providing better rewards. It's been a week since my last post so I jumped from 29 to 38 in 8 days.

I'd estimate 60% standard ranked with 30% duels & 10% arena. I did not purchase the pass. I hit 1000 wins with Demon Hunter over the weekend so my time will be mostly Duels and Arena moving forward. Once I hit diamond 5 (currently at 8) each season I'll say goodbye to ranked play.

I'm guessing that since they revealed 2 new Landmarks for regions that have Landmarks already, all the other regions are going to have 2 Landmarks at the end (1 Epic and 1 Rare). This means that Landmark removal is going to be better and I'm guessing this is why they didn't bother buffing cards like Sunk Cost or Crumble.

@ minuano28 I dont care what champion it is.  I want to play the game, unless evelynn is nip slippin like janet jackson - then idgaf.  I wanna play cards. The animations are too long, and the champion in the animation is irrelevant.  So if you want to comment about doing homework, you can do your own and come up with a well thought out reply like  @DoubleSummon did.

@grumpymonk, personally, I think it is fine at 2 mana. That interaction doesn't exist anymore and if this card was printed in Witchwood then they probably would have just made that same change sooner and avoided any broken combos.

How about this for detachable blade, since its the one that people seem to like the most?

In the enviornment where echo cards can cost 0, it would take two [Hearthstone Card (Blackwater Pirates) Not Found] to go infinite, and it would cost 11 mana.

Actually it would still only cost 8. The two Blackwater Pirates and then the weapon itself costs 0 in your hand

  • New Bilgewater Spell - Boomship

It's an awful card period, I don't see it being used outside of meme decks like Unyielding/Kegs.
